In this paper, global bounded consensus problem of general nonidentical networks with nonlinear dynamics and distributed time-delays is investigated, in which the distributed time-delays are distinct from each other. The global consensus exists in the sense of boundedness since complete consensus does not often exist in the nonidentical case. With the aid of constructing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and utilizing the technique of integral partitioning, some sufficient delay-dependent conditions are derived to ensure that global bounded consensus is achieved ultimately. Finally, effectiveness of the theoretical result is illustrated by a numerical example.

An improved character segmentation algorithm based on local adaptive thresholding technique for Chinese NvShu documents

For the structural characteristics of Chinese NvShu character, by combining the basic idea in LLT local threshold algorithm and introducing the maximal betweenclass variance algorithm into local windows, an improved character segmentation algorithm based on local adaptive thresholding technique for Chinese NvShu documents was presented in this paper. Because of designing the corresponding correction parameters for the threshold and using secondary search mechanism, our proposed method could not only automatically obtain local threshold, but also avoid the loss of the character image information and improve the accuracy of the character image segmentation. Experimental results demonstrated its capability to reduce the effect of background noise, especially for Chinese NvShu character images with uneven illumination and low contrast. © 2014 Academy Publisher.

An intelligent walking-aid robot is presented for walking assistance, training and rehabilitation of the elderly. The robot is intended to provide physical support and mobility aid for the old people during their walking based on recognizing their motion intentions online. A force measuring system comprised of force sensing resisters (FSRs) is designed to obtain the interaction forces between the user and the robot. The user's motion intention is then estimated by analyzing the relationship between the measured interaction forces and human intention force/torque. Further the estimated intention is used to guide the admittance based motion control of robot. To ensure a safe walking, a laser range finder (LRF) is used to detect the distance between the robot and the user's legs. A distance restraint control is also designed and taken into action when the distance is found beyond a safe threshold. Experiments were conducted and the results verified the effectiveness of the developed robot system and control methods. © 2014 Swinburne University of Technology, Australia.

Autonomous ship safe navigation using smoothing A* Algorithm

Using reasonable and efficient autonomous technology for path planning can effectively improve the safety of ship navigation and can reduce human errors of maritime accidents. The planned path by A* algorithm is flawed with broken lines, many turning points and numerous transitional frequencies under the environment modeled by grid method. Smoothing A* algorithm is adopted to delete the removable points which prolong the planned path length. After all the realities of ship navigation are taken into account, smoothing A* algorithm is applied to resolve safe navigation problem for the ship. With the proposed smoothing A* algorithm, simulation results show that the conflict-free path can be planned for ships under different circumstances with static and dynamic obstacles and abide by the COLREGS. © Ma et al.;Licensee Bentham Open.

This paper established a closed-loop temperature control system for a spatially-separated atomic layer deposition (S-ALD) reactor using generalized predictive control (GPC) algorithm. The GPC-based closed-loop control system rapidly and precisely stabilized the reactor temperature in the presence of thermal field disturbances. Compared with the proportion-integration differentiation (PID) control commonly used for S-ALD, the closed-loop GPC system attenuated reaction temperature oscillations when producing two-element nano-scale thin films. Furthermore, the proposed GPC system demonstrated the superiority in multi-element nano-laminates depositing efficiency by reducing the settling time with a substrate moving between different reactors. Electrical and optical properties of films verified the feasibility of the proposed GPC system. Finally, experimental results presented that the microstructure of the deposited ALD nanometer thin film was improved with the developed GPC system, compared with the PID strategy. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Semiglobal observer-based leader-following consensus with input saturation

This paper studies the observer-based leader-following consensus of a linear multiagent system on switching networks, in which the input of each agent is subject to saturation. Based on a low-gain output feedback method, distributed consensus protocols are developed. Under the assumptions that the networks are connected or jointly connected and that each agent is asymptotically null controllable with bounded controls and detectable, semiglobal observer-based leader-following consensus of the multiagent system can be reached on switching networks. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the theoretical results. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

A Fuzzy Optimal Sliding-Mode Guidance for Intercepting Problem

In this paper, a novel terminal guidance law is proposed to solve the problem of exo-atmospheric interception. It is designed based on the proportional navigation (PN) and the classical optimal sliding-mode guidance (OSMG). It overcomes the shortcoming of these two traditional guidance laws and inherits their merits. Particularly, in the scenario of exoatmospheric interception, when the maneuvering information of the targets are unavailable , the proposed guidance law has superior performance than the traditional guidance law. Briefly, to enhance the interceptive performance, we introduce the optimal control and sliding-mode control methods to the guidance law for maneuvering target's interception. On the other hand, the traditional proportional navigation law is introduced to intercept the target with a constant speed. After that, a fuzzy switching function is provided to harmonize both situations above, according to the real-time estimation of maneuver. To guarantee the stability of the law, a Lyapunov based condition is obtained. Finally, different from the two-dimensional simulation in most of the literatures of terminal guidance law researches, we illustrate our method in the nonlinear discrete three-dimensional simulation environment by the Runge-Kutta method. Compared with the pure OSMG and PN, the proposed law performs better.

DNA-based information processing includes storage, addressing, transporting and error-correction, etc. Here we describe a feasible model that can extract and transport the information from specified sources to targeted destinations. This model is established based on the DNA nanotechnologies of hybridization, DNA strand displacement and nanoparticle aggregation reactions. By adding the extracting strands, the data strands of specified sources can be extracted, and then transported to the targets by the transporting strands. The result could be detected by observing the change of color through the naked eyes. Theoretical analysis indicates that thismodel could achieve the parallel information extracting and transporting from different specified sources to different targeted destination, which offers a realistic technology for the flexibility of managing information. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Spiking neural P systems (SN P systems, for short) are a class of distributed parallel computing devices inspired from the way neurons communicate by means of spikes. In this work, we consider SN P systems with the restriction: at each step the neuron with the maximum number of spikes among the neurons that can spike will fire (if there is a tie for the maximum number of spikes stored in the active neurons, only one of the neurons containing the maximum is chosen non-deterministically). We investigate the computational power of such sequential SN P systems that are used as language generators. We prove that recursively enumerable languages can be characterized as projections of inverse-morphic images of languages generated by that sequential SN P systems. The relationships of the languages generated by these sequential SN P systems with finite and regular languages are also investigated. © 2014 Springer International Publishing Switzerland.

H ∞ based decoupling tracking control of hypersonic vehicle

The H ∞ based decoupling tracking control is studied in this paper. A virtual system constituted by the controlled system and the no coupling reference model is firstly set up. The controlled system is driven to follow the reference model to realize the decoupling. And the tracking error can be formulated by the H ∞ norm of the virtual system. Then the controller is derived by minimizing the H ∞ norm, which can be described by Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). The necessary and sufficient condition of existence of controller is derived based on the LMIs above. A flight control example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the proposed method is of better control performance than Linear Quadratic (LQ) tracking controller.
