We have developed an Android based mobile data acquisition (DAQ) solution, which collects personalized health information of the end-user, store analyze and visualize it on the smart device and optionally sends it towards to the datacenter for further processing. The smart mobile device is capable to collect information from a large set of various wireless (Bluetooth, and WiFi) and wired (USB) sensors. Embedded sensors of the mobile device provide additional useful status information (such as: user location, magnetic or noise level, acceleration, temperature, etc.). The user interface of our software solution is suitable for different skilled users, highly configurable and provides diary functionality to store information (about sleep problems, can act as a diet log, or even can be used as a pain diary). The software enables correlation analysis between the various sensor data sets. The developed system is tested successfully within our Living Lab facility. Sensor data acquisition on the personal mobile device enables both end-users and care givers to provide better and more effective health monitoring and facilitate prevention. The paper describes the internal architecture of the software solution and its main functionalities.

Fault resilience has became a major issue for HPC systems, in particular in the perspective of future E-scale systems, which will consist of millions of CPU cores and other components. Fault tolerant MPI was proposed to offer support of software level fault tolerance approaches. However, the widely used MPI implementations, such as MPICH and Mvapich2, provide limited support for fault tolerance. This paper proposes NR-MPI, a Non-stop and Fault Resilient MPI. NR-MPI implements the semantics of FT-MPI based on MPICH. Specifically, this paper focuses on failure detection in MPI library, online failure recovery of communicators for multiple failures, friendly programming interface extending for NR-MPI. Furthermore, to support failure recovery of applications, NR-MPI implements data backup and restore interfaces based on double in-memory checkpoint/restart. We conduct experiments with NPB benchmarks on TH-1A supercomputer. Experimental results show that NR-MPI based fault tolerant programs can recover from failures online without restarting, and the overhead is small even for applications with tens of thousands of cores.

This paper identifies the high value to researchers in many disciplines of having web-based graphical editors for scientific workflows and draws attention to two technological transitions: good quality editors can now run in a browser and workflow enactment systems are emerging that manage multiple workflow languages and support multi-lingual workflows. We contend that this provides a unique opportunity to introduce multi-lingual graphical workflow editors which in turn would yield substantial benefits: workflow users would find it easier to share and combine methods encoded in multiple workflow languages, the common framework would stimulate conceptual convergence and increased workflow component sharing, and the many workflow communities could share a substantial part of the effort of delivering good quality graphical workflow editors in browsers. The paper examines whether such a common framework is feasible and presents an initial design for a web-based editor, tested with a preliminary prototype. It is not a fait accompli but rather an urgent rallying cry to explore collaboratively a generic web-based framework before investing in many divergent individual implementations.
