Manual deployment of the application usually requires expertise both about the underlying system and the application. Automatic service deployment can improve deployment significantly by using on-demand deployment and self-healing services. To support these features this paper describes an extension the globus workspace service. This extension includes creating virtual appliances for grid services, service deployment from a repository, and influencing the service schedules by altering execution planning services, candidate set generators or information systems.

Several widely utilized, grid workflow management systems emerged in the last decade. These systems were developed by different scientific communities for various purposes. Enhancing these systems with the capability of invoking and nesting the workflows of other systems within their native workflows makes these communities to be able to carry out cross-organizational experiments and share non-native workflows. The novel solution described in this paper allows the integration of different workflow engines and makes them accessible for workflow systems in order to achieve this goal. The solution is based on an application repository and submitter, which exposes different workflow engines and executes them using the computational resources of the grid. In contrast with other approaches, our solution is scalable in terms of both number of workflows and amount of data, easily extendable in the sense that the integration of a new workflow engine does not require code re-engineering, and general, since it can be adopted by numerous workflow systems.

Most proposed DHTs have their unique maintenance mechanisms specific to the static graphs on which they are based. In this paper we propose distributed line graphs (DLG), a universal framework for building DHTs based on arbitrary constant-degree graphs. We prove that in a DLG-enabled, N-node DHT, the out-degree is d, the in-degree is between 1 and 2d, and the diameter is less than 2(log d N-log d N 0 +D 0 +1), where d, D 0 and N 0 represent the degree, diameter and number of nodes of the initial graph, respectively. The maintenance cost of DLG-enabled DHTs is O(log d N). We show the power of DLG technique by applying it to Kautz graphs to propose a new DHT scheme.

This paper describes a tool that implements a set of services to manipulate and store data from a sensor network in a transparent way to end users. A major requirement of this system is data availability and reliability. Consequently, we have implemented a replication schema based on the information dispersal algorithm (IDA). Preliminary results show that the IDA based replication provides better reliability and less storage spending than traditional replication. The storage scheme has been deployed on top of a Globus based infrastructure

Emergent behavior is an essential feature in multi-agent systems and plays a significant role in the applications of agent technology. Because of the huge gap between individual agents' behaviors and those of the whole system, specifying and reasoning about emergent behaviors are notoriously difficult. Simulation has been the essential method to study emergent behaviors in multi-agent systems. In this paper, we report an experimental study of the emergent behaviors of self-organized agent communities, in which emergent behaviors play a crucial role. The experiments confirmed the results of a theoretical analysis of agent communities using a formal theory called scenario calculus. It further provided insight into the dynamic features of the system that were very difficult to obtain by using formal logic, such as the speed of convergence to the emergent states and the relationships between the convergence time and various parameters of self-organized agent communities systems.

This paper explores the problem of dynamically scheduling large scale applications over wide area networks and then proposes an adaptive scheduling algorithm to provide quality of service. Our adaptive algorithm takes into account unexpected events and priority fluctuations and gives high priority to jobs with low probability of failure. Experimental results show that the new approach outperforms traditional scheduling approaches in grid computing environments
