High-speed permanent magnet(PM)electric machines are widely ***,their extreme operating conditions,e.g.,high temperature and high mechanical stress,lead to variations of the PM characteristics and affect the machine *** the present study,an experimental device is designed to test the PM characteristics by simulating the stress and temperature conditions of high-speed *** experimental results indicate that the PM remanence not only varies at high temperatures,which is well known,but also changes under high mechanical *** is shown that the PM remanence increases with the mechanical stress but decreases with the temperature ***,a new demagnetization-curve model of the magnets under multiple stresses is refined to better express the PM *** performance of a high-speed PM machine is then analyzed as an example to indicate the necessity of the model *** effects of the temperature and mechanical stress on the conductivity of the PMs are also *** experimental results indicate that the conductivity of the PM increases with the temperature and pressure.

Visual Imagery (VI) can be defined as the manipulation of visual information derived from memory rather than perception. Currently, the brain responses underlying imitation and associative VI are not clear. In this study, we explore the differences from imitation to associative VI on the brain responses based on EEG signals. In this study, eight participants were instructed to observe visual cues from three predefined images or characters (tree, computer, or sphere), and then imagine the same cues. The results indicate that there is a significant difference in power intensity among electrode channels in the occipital lobe, posterior parietal lobe, and temporal lobe during the imagination phase between imitative tasks and associative tasks, as revealed by t-tests (p < 0.05, rejecting the null hypothesis). Overall, imitation mechanisms and associative mechanisms represent the short-term memory (STM) and long-term memory (LTM) features of objects. This study addresses a crucial research gap in VI, as there is currently a scarcity of formal simultaneous comparisons in the existing literature.

In recent years, with the rise of autonomous driving, more and more researchers focus on the field of point cloud semantic segmentation. They have increased the overall mIoU to over 70% and the speed to over 20 fps. However, in the field of 3D semantic segmentation of outdoor point clouds, the long-tail problem is a widespread factor and greatly influences the results. In this paper, we propose a compound loss function based on local voxel structure, which re-weights the classes with uneven distribution to solve this problem. In the results, we achieve 1.7% mIOU improvement over the baseline method while maintaining its inference speed. More importantly, we provide an idea to optimize point-based semantic segmentation by analyzing voxel structure. From this point of view, the voxel method and the point method are complementary to each other. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Precision grinding is a key process for realizing the use of large-aperture aspherical optical elements in laser nuclear fusion devices,large-aperture astronomical telescopes,and high-resolution space *** this study,the arc envelope grinding process of large-aperture aspherical optics is investigated using a CM1500 precision grinding machine with a maximum machinable diameter ofΦ1500 *** form error of the aspherical workpiece induced by wheel setting errors is analytically modeled for both parallel and cross *** show that the form error is more sensitive to the wheel setting error along the feed direction than that along the lateral *** is a bilinear function of the feed-direction wheel setting error and the distance to the optical *** on the error function above,a method to determine the wheel setting error is ***,grinding tests are performed with the wheels aligned *** a newly proposed partial error compensation method with an appropriate compensation factor,a form error of 3.4μm peak-to-valley(PV)for aΦ400 mm elliptical K9 glass surface is achieved.

Interactive Recommendation(IR)formulates the recommendation as a multi-step decision-making process which can actively utilize the individuals’feedback in multiple steps and optimize the long-term user benefit of *** Reinforcement Learning(DRL)has witnessed great application in IR for ***,user cold-start problem impairs the learning process of the DRL-based recommendation ***,most existing DRL-based recommendations ignore user relationships or only consider the single-hop social relationships,which cannot fully utilize the social *** fact that those schemes can not capture the multiple-hop social relationships among users in IR will result in a sub-optimal *** address the above issues,this paper proposes a Social Graph Neural network-based interactive Recommendation scheme(SGNR),which is a multiple-hop social relationships enhanced DRL *** this framework,the multiple-hop social relationships among users are extracted from the social network via the graph neural network which can sufficiently take advantage of the social network to provide more personalized recommendations and effectively alleviate the user cold-start *** experimental results on two real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed SGNR outperforms other state-of-the-art DRL-based methods that fail to consider social relationships or only consider single-hop social relationships.

Hybrid energy storage systems (HESSs) are widely used to solve frequency fluctuation problems caused by the uncertainty and volatility of renewable power generation. This paper proposes a capacity configuration method for a HESS participating in the secondary frequency regulation based on variable mode decomposition (VMD). Considering the costs of the HESS's entire lifecycle and the benefit of frequency regulation operation, an economic model of the HESS is constructed to maximize the net income value. The optimal HESS configuration capacity is obtained under the frequency regulation requirements and the constraints of battery operation. The allocation of the HESS is preliminarily determined based on the parameter optimization VMD, and finally decided considering the state of charge of the energy storage. The proposed capacity allocation method is solved using the Gurobi solver in MATLAB. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with typical historical frequency regulation signal data for a particular region. The results show that the proposed method can optimize the sizing of the battery and ultracapacitor components, and improve the economic efficiency of the HESS participating in the secondary frequency regulation. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

In machine learning, the reliability of an analytical method is crucial in validating the assumption of linearity for any linear regression *** existing analytical method of proving the assumption linearity, such as Pearson's Correlation Coefficient (PCC), Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient (SRCC) and Kendall's Tau Correlation Coefficient (KTCC), has its limitation as it does not work in monotonic relationship *** this paper, we propose a Normalized Least Dependent Difference (NLDD) method to improve the limitation of existing linearity method in identifying monotonic relationship *** calculating the difference between each data point and its predicted value on the regression line, we can determine how much the predicted value deviates from the observed value.A consistent difference between each data point and its predicted value, represented by a relative standard deviation in the y-axis that is near to its mean, suggests that the model accurately reflects the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent *** findings show that our NLDD is effective in identifying linearity in linear relationship graph and non-linearity in monotonic relationship graph. © 2024 SPIE.

Bio-robots continue to receive attention because of their small size and low power consumption. Unfortunately, it currently faces two major obstacles before practical application. The first is the habituation issue, insects are difficult to be effectively controlled for a long time by electrical stimuli signals. The other one is the lack of model for motion control. In this research, we established a stimuli-response model for cockroach bio-robot based on long time current. A more convenient optic lobe implantation method has been proposed, which has lower attenuation and better stimuli effect. Constant electrical stimuli also significantly increased the number of effective controls for crawling. A cockroach bio-robot stimuli distance response model was established and validated with experiment data. Five parameters were including in this model, namely sex, length, weight, current amplitude and equivalent stiumated-number. This model can predict the movement distance of biological robots well. © 2024 IEEE.

Synchronous reluctance machines (SynRMs) are widely used in fan and water pump system, due to the high efficiency and low cost. However, low power factor is a major disadvantage which limits the application of SynRMs. To improve the power factor of SynRMs, permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machine (PMa-SynRM) attracted more and more attention. For the PMa-SynRMs, the magnetic characteristics of PMs significantly affect the machine performance. This paper does not study how to change the permanent magnet (PM) magnetic characteristics, but study the influence of PM magnetic characteristics on the performance of the machine and the results can be used to guide the processing of permanent magnetic materials. © 2023 IEEE.
