Superior performance of ZnGaO solar-blind photodetectors by Implementing TFT structure and tunable ZnO cycle ratio

In this study, plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition was used to prepare ZnGaO thin films with different ZnO cycle ratios from 0 % to 50 %, which were employed to fabricate the MSM-type and TFT-type solar-blind photodetector. The properties of the films and the performance of the solar blind photodetector are greatly affected by the ZnO cycle ratio. Appropriate Zn doping content decreases the ratio of oxygen vacancies and Zn interstitials in Ga₂O₃, while excessive Zn doping degrades the quality of the film. Compared to MSM-type photodetector, an obviously improved performance of ZnGaO TFT-type photodetector has been observed due to its self-amplified photocurrent and the reduced dark current controlled by gate voltage. At a ZnO cycle ratio of 40 %, a superior performance of TFT-type solar-blind photodetector with an ultra-low dark current ∼4.5 × 10⁻¹³ A, an excellent light switching ratio ∼2.2 × 10⁷, and an outstandingly high sensitivity ∼34.31 A/W has been obtained. These results demonstrate that the incorporation of Zn dopants can effectively modulate the performance of Ga₂O₃ TFT-type photodetector providing a great perspective for cost-effective and high-performance solar-blind PDs. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

The narrow-band organic photodetectors based on organic photo-filtering layers using a transfer printing technology

Aiming at the response spectral of organic photodetectors (OPDs), we investigate a method of preparing the narrow-band near-infrared (NIR) OPDs by using thin film transfer print technology (TFTPT) to prepare the active layer of bulk heterojunction on the organic photo-filtering layer—a functional layer which can block some specific wavelengths of light and prevent these photons from reaching the next functional layer. Herein, short-wavelength photons are absorbed by the photo-filtering layer to form excitons, but they cannot be successfully dissociated due to the lack of a dissociation interface to the acceptor for eventual composite annihilation. While long-wavelength photons can effectively pass through the photo-filtering layer to reach the active layer and be absorbed and dissociated into free electrons and holes and eventually realize the narrow-band optical response. A narrow-band NIR OPD is prepared with a response peak of 790 nm and a full width at half maximum of 62 nm. Under the bias voltage of -5 V, the responsivity and specific detectivity of the device at 790 nm are 0.24 A/W and 1.39 × 1012Jones, respectively. The responsivity and specific detectivity of OPDs prepared based on our method can be flexibly adjusted by the combination of different photo-filtering and active layers, and the universality of our method is also proved.

AGV is the application of modern factory intelligence and automation. With the development of wireless power transmission (WPT), its transmission efficiency and stability are getting higher and higher. However, from static charging to dynamic power supply, the cost of technology implementation has increased significantly. This paper proposed a method to supply power to logistics AGV by intermittent segment, established the binary coverage model according to the power coverage distance, and designed an Adaptive Weight Value Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (AWVMOGA) for this model to Optimizing the path design of sectional power supply. The influence of three weight value adaptive methods on the optimization results is analyzed, the effectiveness of the proposed method is analyzed and verified through case simulation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Design and Analysis of Cylindrical Liquid Lens Based on Electrowetting

Objective Cylindrical lenses, with their unique ability to focus light in a single dimension, are critical for applications such as beam shaping and improving illumination uniformity. However, most existing research on electrowetting-based liquid lenses focuses on spherical configurations, leaving cylindrical variants underexplored. These cylindrical lenses face challenges such as high driving voltages, limited focal ranges, and structural inefficiencies. In this paper, we address these challenges by proposing a novel cylindrical electrowetting liquid lens design featuring a conical cavity with segmented dielectric layers. Our approach aims to advance cylindrical liquid lens technology for compact optical systems, targeting low-voltage operation (35 ‒ 55 V), wide focal length tunability (139 ‒ 999 mm), and enhanced optical performance. We provide foundational insights for applications in laser processing, optical sensing, and medical imaging by bridging theoretical advancements with practical implementation. Methods We employ a multidisciplinary approach combining theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, and experimental validation. The lens structure incorporates a conical cavity with alternating thick (15 µm) and thin (3 µm) dielectric layers [Fig. 1(d)], enabling asymmetric liquid interface control based on the Young-Lippmann equation (Eq. 1). Theoretical modeling establishes the relationship between applied voltage and interface curvature, while a fifth-degree polynomial (Eq. 2) ensures high-precision fitting of simulated interface profiles (R2>0.98, Table 1). COMSOL Multiphysics 6.0 simulates voltage-dependent interface deformations (Fig. 2), and Zemax evaluates optical performance, including focal length, aberrations, and field curvature (Figs. 6 and 7). The storage time of Zn-air batteries (ZABs) for practical implementation have been neglected long-lastingly. ZABs based on organic solvents promise long shelf lives but suffer from sluggish kinetics. Here, we report a longly storable ZAB with accelerated kinetics mediated by I 3 − /I − redox. In the charge process, the electrooxidation of Zn 5 (OH) 8 Cl 2 ⋅H 2 O is accelerated by I 3 − chemical oxidation. In the discharge process, I − adsorbed on the electrocatalyst changes the energy level of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Benefitting from these advantages, the prepared ZAB shows remarkably improved round-trip efficiency (56.03 % vs. 30.97 % without the mediator), and long-term cycling time (>2600 h) in ambient air without replacing any components or applying any protective treatment to Zn anode and electrocatalyst. After resting for 30 days without any protection, it can still directly discharge continuously for 32.5 h and charge/discharge very stably for 2200 h (440 cycles), which is evidently superior to aqueous ZABs (only 0/0.25 h, and 50/25 h (10/5 cycles) by mild/alkaline electrolyte replenishment). This study provides a strategy to solve both storage and sluggish kinetics issues that have been plaguing ZABs for centuries, opening up a new avenue to the industrial application of ZABs.

In this paper, optimal filtering problem for a class of linear Gaussian systems is studied. The system states are updated at a fast uniform sampling rate and the measurements are sampled at a slow uniform sampling rate. The updating rate of system states is several times the sampling rate of measurements and the multiple is constant. To solve the problem,we will propose a self-tuning asynchronous filter whose contributions are twofold. First, the optimal filter at the sampling times when the measurements are available is derived in the linear minimum variance sense. Furthermore, considering the variation of noise statistics, a regulator is introduced to adjust the filtering coefficients adaptively. The case studies of wheeled robot navigation system and air quality evaluation system will show the effectiveness and practicability in engineering.

Hybrid dielectric–metal colloid nanoparticle heterostructures have recently attracted attention in both fundamentals and applications. In this paper, we developed a new approach based on mechanical grinding and chemical synthesis in order to obtain hybrid dielectric–metal nanoparticles. By increasing the amounts of the stabilizing agent (polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)), three different types of hybrid colloidal structures were obtained, Si/Au core–island, core–shell, and core–shell oligomers heterostructures, respectively. The obtained colloidal heterostructures were analyzed by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements. Moreover, the optical properties of hybrid nanostructure have been carefully studied. A splitting was observed in the extinction spectra of colloidal solutions for different Si/Au colloidal heterostructures compared to Si colloidal nanoparticles, attributed to the hybridization of plasmon. Thanks to photolitholographic and drop-cast deposition techniques on a substrate, we were able to locate the colloidal nanoparticles heterostructures and to measure the backward scattering spectra using single-particle dark-field scattering spectroscopy. To better understand scattering results, FDTD simulations of scattering cross-section and electric near-field distributions were performed. As is well-known, the scattering spectrum of the pristine Si core is dominated by electric and magnetic dipolar modes in the visible region. More importantly, the scattering spectra of Si/Au core–island and core–shell support several phenomena such as collective magnetic dipolar modes and multiple Fano lineshapes. Our finding highlights the potential of our dielectric–metal heterostructures as a platform for studying light–matter interactions at the nanoscale.

Boundary segmentation based on modified random walks for vascular Doppler optical coherence tomography images

Vascular Doppler optical coherence tomography (DOCT) images with weak boundaries are usually difficult for most algorithms to segment. We propose a modified random walk (MRW) algorithm with a novel regularization for the segmentation of DOCT vessel images. Based on MRW, we perform automatic boundary detection of the vascular wall from intensity images and boundary extraction of the blood flowing region from Doppler phase images. Dice, sensitivity, and specificity coefficients were adopted to verify the segmentation performance. The experimental study on DOCT images of the mouse femoral artery showed the effectiveness of our proposed method, yielding three-dimensional visualization and quantitative evaluation of the vessel.

Tracking the temporal dynamics of urban heat island (UHI) is critical for urban heat adaptation and mitigation strategies. However, whether UHI trends have shifted recently and their underlying drivers remain unknown. Here we investigate the variabilities in surface UHI trends and their associated determinants in 2,104 cities worldwide from 2000 to 2022. Our findings reveal that approximately half of the world's cities have experienced notable shifts in surface UHI trends, predominantly characterized by UHI deceleration. These shifts can be primarily attributed to alterations in vegetation trends during the day and to modifications in surface albedo and local warming trends at night. Our study challenges the conventional linear models commonly employed to estimate surface UHI trends, suggesting potential biases in such estimates. Our findings underscore the need for nuanced policies to curtail UHI growth by considering changes in urban underlying surfaces and background climate, particularly from a nonlinear perspective.
