To enhance the accuracy of aluminum-silicon alloy microstructure image classification, we propose an aluminum-silicon alloy microstructure image classification model based on an improved residual network, incorporating attention mechanisms and multi-scale thinking. The model is built upon the ResNet18 architecture, utilizing enhanced basic residual blocks to select informative features. Additionally, a multi-scale attention module is incorporated into the network to fuse multi-scale features and further extract effective features. Experimental results on an aluminum-silicon alloy microstructure image classification dataset demonstrate that compared to the best-performing model currently available, the proposed model achieves an increase in classification accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score by 3.17%, 0.74%, 5.53%, and 3.26%, respectively, reaching 94.97%, 96.39%, 93.97%, and 95.17%. These results indicate that the proposed model exhibits strong capabilities in classifying aluminum-silicon alloy microstructure images and can facilitate further research on the properties of aluminum-silicon alloys. © 2023 IEEE.

Automatically generated questions often suffer from problems such as unclear expression or factual inaccuracies, requiring a reliable and comprehensive evaluation of their quality. Human evaluation is widely used in the field of question generation (QG) and serves as the gold standard for automatic metrics. However, there is a lack of unified human evaluation criteria, which hampers consistent and reliable evaluations of both QG models and automatic metrics. To address this, we propose QGEval, a multi-dimensional Evaluation benchmark for Question Generation, which evaluates both generated questions and existing automatic metrics across 7 dimensions: fluency, clarity, conciseness, relevance, consistency, answerability, and answer consistency. We demonstrate the appropriateness of these dimensions by examining their correlations and distinctions. Through consistent evaluations of QG models and automatic metrics with QGEval, we find that 1) most QG models perform unsatisfactorily in terms of answerability and answer consistency, and 2) existing metrics fail to align well with human judgments when evaluating generated questions across the 7 dimensions. We expect this work to foster the development of both QG technologies and their evaluation. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

A Reinforcement Learning-Based Image Mapping-Topology Optimization for Antenna Design

A Reinforcement Learning (RL)-based Image Mapping Topology (IMT) optimization approach is proposed. To enable RL to optimize antenna topology and increase the efficiency of the optimization process. Two crucial components, Stratified Sampling Balance (SSB) and IMT are introduced. SSB is utilized to balance different types of data samples. IMT is utilized to facilitate the interaction between RL and simulation software, it also pretrains the actor network within the RL algorithm. This methodology allows the RL agent to acquire knowledge from the interaction of the antenna topology with the environment. Subsequently, the agent outputs antenna topology with the maximum reward signal. Compared with other machine learning-based optimization methods, the proposed method significantly alleviates the issue of learning inefficiency and reduces the exploration time for feasible solutions. To validate the effectiveness of the optimization method, a microstrip antenna is optimized. The measurement results show that the impedance bandwidth is doubled while maintaining the realized gain with fewer simulation samples and less optimization time. © 2025 IEEE.

In this paper, leaderless consensus control is investigated for uncertain nonlinear systems with event-triggered communication. Different from the existing results, exponential leaderless consensus is achieved under directed graphs with a positive minimum inter-event time (MIET) guaranteed for each agent. The main challenge lies in the cross-coupling term associated with asymmetric Laplacian matrix and the unknown parameters of all the agents in the derivative of Lyapunov function. To address this issue, a novel distributed event-triggered control scheme is presented to eliminate this term by applying adaptive invariance and immersion control. Besides, concurrent learning control is incorporated in the design of the controllers to ensure a positive MIET for each agent by achieving exponentially convergent rate for the parameter estimation errors. It is proved that all the closed-loop signals are globally uniformly bounded and exponential leaderless consensus can be reached. Moreover, a positive MIET can be guaranteed for each agent. Finally, an illustrative simulation is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the presented control scheme.

Virtual coupling technologies have been widely studied in recent years, due to their merits of flexibility and efficiency. However, to operate a virtually coupled train set (VCTS) as a single train, the synchronous operation is still a critical problem to be addressed, especially in arriving. To this end, we propose a distributed coordinated optimal control (DCOC) approach integrated with distributed optimization and model predictive control. First, we formulate a globally coordinated optimal control problem for VCTS, where the states of units in VCTS are coupled in the cost and constraints. Then, we design a distributed algorithm to solve the global problem, where local problems are decoupled into ones with fewer dimensions. Next, we employ distributed model predictive control to guarantee the satisfaction of safety constraints before the convergence of the distributed algorithm. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that our approach can achieve stable and synchronous operation for VCTS and save by 90% computation time than existing centralized approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes an intelligent dynamic modeling method for strip rolling process. Actuators of a cold rolling mill perform actions, including work roll bending, intermediate roll bending, and roll gap tilting, to regulate the product quality. Conventional first-principles modeling necessitates intricate mathematical equations derived from process analysis and action evaluation. However, the complexity of the model increases the difficulty of upgrading the model. To address this limitation, a novel approach involving a deep neural network with a Gaussian distribution layer is proposed to effectively capture the process dynamics. A negative log likelihood is established as the loss function for the model using real-world industrial data. Experiment outcomes demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method in achieving an accurate dynamic model.

Data-free knowledge distillation aims to learn a compact student network from a pre-trained large teacher network without using the original training data of the teacher network. Existing collection-based and generation-based methods train student networks by collecting massive real examples and generating synthetic examples, respectively. However, they inevitably become weak in practical scenarios due to the difficulties in gathering or emulating sufficient real-world data. To solve this problem, we propose a novel method called Hybrid Data-Free Distillation (HiDFD), which leverages only a small amount of collected data as well as generates sufficient examples for training student networks. Our HiDFD comprises two primary modules, i.e., the teacher-guided generation and student distillation. The teacher-guided generation module guides a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) by the teacher network to produce high-quality synthetic examples from very few real-world collected examples. Specifically, we design a feature integration mechanism to prevent the GAN from overfitting and facilitate the reliable representation learning from the teacher network. Meanwhile, we drive a category frequency smoothing technique via the teacher network to balance the generative training of each category. In the student distillation module, we explore a data inflation strategy to properly utilize a blend of real and synthetic data to train the student network via a classifier-sharing-based feature alignment technique. Intensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our HiDFD can achieve state-of-the-art performance using 120 times less collected data than existing methods.
