Government open systems interconnection: Profile in progress

The emergence of Open Systems Interconnection protocols, as specified within the U.S. Government Open Systems Interconnection Profile (GOSIP) Federal Information Processing Standard (FTPS), provides both an opportunity for, and a means of achieving, interoperability within multi-vendor networks. The GOSIP can easily benefit inexperienced users, yet provides the flexibility to serve more sophisticated users. The standard mandates specifications that will be met by a multitude of vendor products, with initial offerings already available. While meeting a useful set of initial networking needs, the FIPS will evolve to include new applications, improvements to the initial applications, new network technologies, and major new functions. GOSIP will permit government agencies to gain better control over their computer network procurements, accruing greater and greater cost savings as the number of government computer networks increases. © 1990, MCB UP Limited

CPicker： Leveraging Performance-Equivalent Configurations to Improve Data Center Energy Efficiency

The poor energy proportionality of server is seen as the principal source for low energy efficiency of modern data centers. We find that different resource configurations of an application lead to similar performance, but have distinct energy consumption. We call this phenomenon as ＂performance-equivalent resource configurations （PERC）＂, and its performance range is called equivalent region （ER）. Based on PERC, one basic idea for improving energy efficiency is to select the most efficient configuration from PERC for each application. However, it cannot support every application to obtain optimal solution when thousands of applications are run simultaneously on resource-bounded servers. Here we propose a heuristic scheme, CPicker, based on genetic programming to improve energy efficiency of servers. To speed up convergence, CPicker initializes a high quality population by first choosing configurations from regions that have high energy variation. Experiments show that CPicker obtains above 17% energy efficiency improvement compared with the greedy approach, and less than 4% efficiency loss compared with the oracle case.

Research on two-order partial differential equation tends to be mature. This paper takes initial-boundary problem of dispersive equation for example. I have followed the way of other scholars and created new methods and got two eight-point difference schemes. I have calculated and contracted their truncation errors and analyzed their stability analysis. Based on the unstable difference scheme, the Matlab program is obtained by the algorithm. Although one of the schemes is unstable, it created a new way and solution for the high-order difference equations theoretically. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In order to reduce the interference,a novel,cluster-based medium access control(MAC)protocol with load aware for VANETs is proposed in this ***,all vehicles on roads are grouped into stable clusters in the light of their direction,number of neighbors,link reliability,and traffic *** utilizing the advantages of centralized control in software defined VANETs(SDVN),cluster stability can be maintained in ***,a contention-free MAC mechanism composed of inter-cluster multi-channel allocation and intra-cluster dynamic TDMA frame allocation is proposed to prevent co-channel interference and hidden terminal *** results show that the proposed protocol outperforms some existing protocols in cluster stability,delivery ratio,throughput and delay performance.

In recent years, artificial intelligence and automotive industry have developed rapidly, and autonomous driving has gradually become the focus of the industry. In road networks, the problem of proximity detection refers to detecting whether two moving objects are close to each other or not in real time. However, the battery life and computing capability of mobile devices are limited in the actual scene,which results in high latency and energy consumption. Therefore, it is a tough problem to determine the proximity relationship between mobile users with low latency and energy consumption. In this article, we aim at finding a tradeoff between latency and energy consumption. We formalize the computation offloading problem base on mobile edge computing(MEC)into a constrained multiobjective optimization problem(CMOP) and utilize NSGA-II to solve it. The simulation results demonstrate that NSGA-II can find the Pareto set, which reduces the latency and energy consumption effectively. In addition, a large number of solutions provided by the Pareto set give us more choices of the offloading decision according to the actual situation.

With the advantages of low cost and high mobility,unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)have played an important role in wireless *** investigate a UAV-enabled mobile relaying system,where a UAV is used as a mobile relay to assist in the communication from a ground source to a ground destination since their direct link is *** the conventional mobile relay in which the UAV adopts straight line or circular trajectory,we consider a more general elliptical trajectory and use realistic channel *** assuming that the UAV employs time-division duplexing(TDD)based decode-and-forward(DF)relaying,we jointly optimize the time allocations and the UAV trajectory to formulate the maximization of spectrum efficiency(SE).The simulation results show that the trajectory we designed achieves a higher SE than the optimal circular trajectory and static relaying.

Digital campus is one important part to the digital earth and Internet of Things. Based on the analysis of the LBS performance, structure, function and the present research status of digital campus we propose a digital campus design project based on LBS and we discuss the architecture. We take a campus as a simulation implement. Map engine is the tool of implementation of the LBS platform. GIS is used here to give the navigation and the platform is combined and advanced with virtual reality technology such as VRML. Though the platform we achieve a terminal location, map query, three-dimensional browsing, navigation and guides tracking and monitoring, and other functions. The LBS platform improves the work and study efficiency of teachers and students, accelerates the construction and application of digital campus, and provides a new idea for the future development of digital campus system. © 2010 IEEE.

In recent years, there has been a lot of interest in providing real-time multimedia services like digital audio and video over packet-switched networks such as Internet and ATM. These services require certain quality of service (QoS) from the network. The routing algorithm should take QoS factor for an application into account while selecting the most suitable route for the application. In this paper, we introduce a new routing metric and use it with two different heuristics to compute the multicast tree for guaranteed QoS applications that need firm end-to-end delay bound. We then compare the performance of our algorithms with the other proposed QoS-based routing algorithms. Simulations were run over a number of random networks to measure the performance of different algorithms. We studied routing algorithms along with resource reservation and admission control to measure the call throughput over a number of random networks. Simulation results show that our algorithms give a much better performance in terms of call throughput over other proposed schemes like QOSPF.

Application-level network traffic analysis is a fundamental technology, which could be widely adopted such as intrusion detection system. However, network traffic analysis algorithms consuming considerable computational resources can not be adopted by using conventional network capturing technologies. In addition, developing an application protocol analyzer is a tedious and time consuming task. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a scalable and exible traffic analysis platform (SF-TAP) that provides an efficient and exible application-level stream analysis of high-bandwidth network traffic. Because SF-TAP is horizontally scalable, such heavy algorithms can be adopted for high-bandwidth networks. Furthermore, because of the modularity of SF-TAP, developers can easily implement network traffic analyzers by using SF-TAP.

Optimizing Multi-Dimensional Packet Classification for Multi-Core Systems

Packet classification has been studied for decades; it classifies packets into specific flows based on a given rule set. As software-defined network was proposed, a recent trend of packet classification is to scale the five-tuple model to multi-tuple. In general, packet classification on multiple fields is a complex problem. Although most existing software-based algorithms have been proved extraordinary in practice, they are only suitable for the classic five-tuple model and difficult to be scaled up. Meanwhile, hardware-specific solutions are inflexible and expensive, and some of them are power consuming. In this paper, we propose a universal multi-dimensional packet classification approach for multi-core systems. In our approach, novel data structures and four decomposition-based algorithms are designed to optimize the classification and updating of rules. For multi-field rules, a rule set is cut into several parts according to the number of fields. Each part works independently. In this way, the fields are searched in parallel and all the partial results are merged together at last. To demonstrate the feasibility of our approach, we implement a prototype and evaluate its throughput and latency. Experimental results show that our approach achieves a 40% higher throughput than that of other decomposed-based algorithms and a 43% lower latency of rule incremental update than that of the other algorithms on average. Furthermore, our approach saves 39% memory consumption on average and has a good scalability.
