Terahertz image denoising via multiscale hybrid-convolution residual network

Terahertz imaging technology has great potential applications in areas,such as remote sensing,navigation,security checks,and so ***,terahertz images usually have the problems of heavy noises and low *** terahertz image denoising methods are mainly based on traditional image processing methods,which have limited denoising effects on the terahertz *** deep learning-based image denoising methods are mostly used in natural images and easily cause a large amount of detail loss when denoising terahertz ***,a residual-learning-based multiscale hybridconvolution residual network(MHRNet)is proposed for terahertz image denoising,which can remove noises while preserving detail features in terahertz ***,a multiscale hybrid-convolution residual block(MHRB)is designed to extract rich detail features and local prediction residual noise from terahertz ***,MHRB is a residual structure composed of a multiscale dilated convolution block,a bottleneck layer,and a multiscale convolution *** uses the MHRB and global residual learning to achieve terahertz image *** studies are performed to validate the effectiveness of MHRB.A series of experiments are conducted on the public terahertz image *** experimental results demonstrate that MHRNet has an excellent denoising effect on synthetic and real noisy terahertz *** with existing methods,MHRNet achieves comprehensive competitive results.

This paper introduces a novel approach integrating Differential Evolution (DE) with multi-objective optimization techniques for enhancing Type-1 Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy rule-based systems to attain both fair predictive performance and enhanced interpretability within the context of explainable artificial intelligence. The developed approach encodes the whole knowledge base into one chromosome and endeavors to concurrently optimize the prediction accuracy, the number of rules, and the selection of relevant input features. The methodology was tested on Earth observation data for the estimation of soil health parameters via infrared spectroscopy, and more concretely i) on the 2015 LUCAS topsoil dataset to predict three key soil properties (namely, soil organic carbon, clay content, and pH) from laboratory spectra, and ii) on a set of PRISMA hyperspectral images to predict soil organic carbon in a region of northern Greece. Compared to the classical Random Forest (RF) algorithm, our proposed learning algorithm attains a fair balance between accuracy and interpretability, and is statistically equivalent to RF in terms of accuracy. The findings underscore the potential of the proposed methodology in refining TSK models and its applicability in Earth observation-driven predictions, paving the way for both enhanced modeling accuracy and sparse feature selection. © 2024 IEEE.

An adaptive multitasking optimization algorithm based on population distribution

Evolutionary multitasking optimization (EMTO) handles multiple tasks simultaneously by transferring and sharing valuable knowledge from other relevant tasks. How to effectively identify transferred knowledge and reduce negative knowledge transfer are two key issues in EMTO. Many existing EMTO algorithms treat the elite solutions in tasks as transferred knowledge between tasks. However, these algorithms may not be effective enough when the global optimums of the tasks are far apart. In this paper, we study an adaptive evolutionary multitasking optimization algorithm based on population distribution information to find valuable transferred knowledge and weaken the negative transfer between tasks. In this paper, we first divide each task population into K sub-populations based on the fitness values of the individuals, and then the maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) is utilized to calculate the distribution difference between each sub-population in the source task and the subpopulation where the best solution of the target task is located. Among the sub-populations of the source task, the sub-population with the smallest MMD value is selected, and the individuals in it are used as transferred individuals. In this way, the solution chosen for the transfer may be an elite solution or some other solution. In addition, an improved randomized interaction probability is also included in the proposed algorithm to adjust the intensity of inter-task interactions. The experimental results on two multitasking test suites demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves high solution accuracy and fast convergence for most problems, especially for problems with low relevance. © 2024 the Author(s).

We present in this paper a novel framework and distributed control laws for the formation of multiple unmanned rotorcraft systems,be it single-rotor helicopters or multi-copters,with physical constraints and with inter-agent collision avoidance,in cluttered *** proposed technique is composed of an analytical distributed consensus control solution in the free space and an optimization based motion planning algorithm for inter-agent and obstacle collision *** specifically,we design a distributed consensus control law to tackle a series of state constraints that include but not limited to the physical limitations of velocity,acceleration and jerk,and an optimization-based motion planning technique is utilized to generate numerical solutions when the consensus control fails to provide a collision-free ***,a sufficiency condition is given to guarantee the stability of the switching process between the consensus control and motion ***,both simulation and real flight experiments successfully demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

In this paper, a dual-beam photothermal self-mixing substance trace detection system is proposed. The crystal violet (CV) solution of the sample undergoes a thermal lens effect under the action of pump photoperiod excitation, and the refractive index changes cause the deviation of the probe beam, and the self-mixing interference (SMI) effect occurs when the modulated light returns to the cavity. By combining theoretical and experimental results, the power fluctuation of the SMI signal caused by the thermo-optic effect is linearly related to CV concentration and other parameters. At an excitation power of 24 mW, the detection limit can reach 8.0 × 10−8 mol/L. This method does not require labeling or complex CV pretreatment and has high sensitivity and flexibility, providing a guide for CV characterization in biological, environmental, and pharmaceutical research. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group.

In this paper, a novel adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) algorithm, named output-feedback hybrid iteration (HI),is proposed to address the adaptive optimal control problem of discrete-time linear systems. The proposed output-feedback HI strategy learns the optimal control policy through two phases. First, a novel data-driven value-iteration (VI) scheme is employed to learn an admissible output-feedback control policy using the input/output data without relying on the knowledge of system matrices. Then, with the obtained admissible control policy, the optimal output feedback-control policy is approximated with an accelerated convergence rate through output-feedback policy iteration (PI). Online input/output data are utilized to reconstruct the full state of the system and integrated into the new output-feedback HI algorithm. Simulation results are presented and demonstrate the efficacy and practicality of the proposed output-feedback HI approach in comparison with traditional PI and VI techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

Electronic medical records and doctor-patient conversations contain a wealth of useful information, such as disease symptoms, drug names, and cure cycles. Traditional deep learning approaches utilize bidirectional recurrent neural networks to encode text, which cannot effectively capture long-distance dependencies in text. In order to identify medical entity types in various texts more accurately, a named entity recognition approach based on RoBERTa-WWM-IDCNN-CRF is proposed. This approach introduces the RoBERTa-WWM pre-trained model, in order to improve the overall understanding of long Chinese texts for the first time. The model generates semantic representations containing prior knowledge. Then, the generated semantic representations are feed to the IDCNN to extract sentence level characteristics. Finally, the global optimal solution is obtained and the results of the named entity are produced through the CRF. The experiment indicates that the improvement of F1 score, accuracy, and recall of RoBERTa-WWM-IDCNN-CRF model are 7.94%, 4.52% and 10.02% comparing with the classical BiLSTM-CRF model. © 2024 IEEE.

For future Internet of Vehicles (IoV), communications and computing will converge to provide services. Federated learning (FL), as one of the typical distributed computing technologies, needs to be integrated with IoV. For such integration, FL suffers from the straggler effect that the entire learning speed is lowered down, because of the existence of the devices, such as low-powered road side units and vehicles, taking more time to complete their tasks. Although the existing mechanisms reduce straggler effects by adopting asynchronous mechanisms and clustering mechanisms, they lack the detailed analysis of the reasons and the impacts of each cause, leading to inefficiencies in the design of algorithm. Additionally, most of the existing work only considered the impact of a single factor in computation, communication, or data distribution, which lacks comprehensive on research for causes of stragglers effects. The bottleneck is that it is laborious to observe the time delay precisely with the existing high-calculating evaluations. In this article, we elaborately explore the effects of computing power, communication capability, and data distributions on the straggler effects with carefully designing and conducting the extensive experiments. After investigations, we propose a novel learning completion time estimation formula for low computing capability devices with mini-batch stochastic gradient decent (SGD). We compare our proposed estimation formula with the one based on floating operation per second (FLOPs). Through the evaluations, our formula can demonstrate the improvement up to 72.4% at docker and 32.4% at Raspberry Pi device compared to the existing work. © 2014 IEEE.
