The beamforming performance of the uniform circular array (UCA) in near-field wideband communication systems is investigated. Firstly, the unique beam squint effect in near-field wideband UCA systems is analyzed in both the distance and angular domains. It is demonstrated that the generated beams at different frequencies are focused at different locations, resulting in significant beamforming loss. To alleviate this unique beam squint effect and facilitate beamfocusing, an energy-efficient beamforming scheme based on the true-time delay (TTD) architecture is proposed. Specifically, the phase shifters (PSs) and the time delay of TTDs are designed based on the analytical formula for beamforming gain. Additionally, the minimum number of TTDs required to achieve a predetermined beamforming gain while minimizing energy consumption is quantified. Numerical results show that the proposed beamforming scheme effectively eliminates the near-field beam squint and outperforms the conventional schemes in terms of spectral efficiency and energy efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has become a promising technique to alleviate the spectrum congestion via sharing the same spectrum for communication and sensing. Nevertheless, many ISAC schemes encounter the challenges of high complexity. In this paper, we propose a dual-functional waveform design scheme for reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) aided ISAC based on deep unfolding learning. Specifically, the weighted sum of multi-user interference energy and waveform discrepancy is minimized via the joint waveform and phase-shift design. We first develop an alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) based iterative algorithm to handle the non-convex optimization problem. Then, we develop a deep unfolding neural network (NN), named ADMM-NET, which unfolds the proposed ADMM-based iterative algorithm to a layer-wise architecture. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed ADMM-NET. © 2024 IEEE.

Low-profile metamaterial with ultra-wide band ratio based on active frequency selective surfaces

This paper presents a low-profile metamaterial with ultra-wide band ratio (BR) based on active frequency selective surfaces (AFSSs) to overcome the limited tuning range and suboptimal profile of current designs. The proposed design consists of a periodic pattern printed on the top of a thin substrate and a bias network on the bottom, with varactor diodes symmetrically integrated into the top metal layer. Based on the equivalent circuit model, the mechanism of wideband tuning is analyzed theoretically. The corresponding simulation results indicate that the designed AFSS can achieve a large tuning range for the first operating band from 1.12 to 7.86 GHz while maintaining stability in the second operating band. This allows for a continuous variation from a small BR to a large BR, with a tuning range reaching 601.79%. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time that the concept of band ratio range (BRR) has been proposed to characterize the level of BR variation. Considering the feasibility of fabrication and limitations due to the tuning range of a single commercially available varactor diode, measurements were performed based on two fabricated prototypes. The simulation results are consistent with the experimental results. Compared with existing literature, the proposed AFSS can provide significant advantages such as good angular stability, polarization insensitivity, miniaturization, and ultra-wideband tunability. Our design is applicable to controlling the propagation of electromagnetic waves in various communication systems and is well-suited for electromagnetic shielding in communication devices or optical devices across different frequency bands. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

This paper presents an effective method based on the concept of indium tin oxide (ITO) films designed metamaterial absorber to achieve unequal power divider. The structural unit of the proposed metamaterial absorber consists of three films, a foam dielectric substrate and a metallic copper. By properly adjusting the resonance of the structure, an optimized metamaterial absorption rate of greater than 90% from 21 to 35 GHz is achieved, and a strong absorption effect of ultra-broadband for incident electromagnetic waves at different polarization angles and different incidence angles is achieved, which is in good agreement with the numerical simulation results, and an equivalent circuit model is extracted to explain its operation mechanism. The designed metamaterial is loaded on an Integrated Substrate Gap Waveguide (ISGW) based power divider. Simulation results show that the 4:1 unequal power divider achieves a relative bandwidth of 24% in the operating band 22-28 GHz, and the isolation is better than 15dB, and the return loss is greater than 10dB. © 2023 IEEE.

Active power dispatch of wind farms plays an important role in power grid scheduling. In this paper, a data-driven active power dispatch strategy for wind farms is proposed, which uses the key point of minimizing the standard deviation of wind turbines' output power series to reduce their fluctuations. First, to build the optimization problem, the historical active power output data of each wind turbine is collected from the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Then, the objective function is developed based on the idea of minimizing the standard deviation of the output power time series. Meanwhile, considering the constraints of wind turbines' output power and active power balance of the grid, the feasible domain of the cost function is constructed. Further, to solve the proposed nonlinear optimization problem with equality and inequality constraints, the trust region interior point method (TRIPM) is employed to explore optimal solution within the feasible domain. Finally, actual data collected from wind farms is used to test effectiveness of the designed approach and experimental results show that our method can achieve better output power smoothing performance than conventional Proportional Dispatch (PD) method. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of millimeter-wave(mmWave)communication systems,large-scale reconfigurable intelligent surfaces(RISs)have gained considerable attention as a promising technology for signal strength enhancement and coverage ***,as the antenna scale and bandwidth increase,RIS-assisted wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)communication systems face challenges due to the near-field range expansion and the beam split effect over the high-frequency band,complicating the acquisition of channel state information(CSI).To tackle these challenges,we present a codebook-based three-stage beam training scheme by using the beam split effect to bypass CSI ***,by analyzing the beam split effect in RIS-assisted OFDM communication systems,we propose a beam-split-aware codebook capable of covering both the near and far fields with fewer codewords compared to conventional narrow-band *** such a codebook,a three-stage beam training mechanism is adopted to obtain the optimal codeword with low time overhead,thereby facilitating subsequent *** results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms existing near-and far-field codebook-based schemes in terms of the beam training resolution and sum rate in the hybrid near–far field.

In the realm of music composition, sentiment plays a pivotal role in connecting compositions with their audience, evoking emotions and memories. With the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), there exists a burgeoning interest in utilizing AI for sentiment analysis in various domains, including textual data, social media, and film. This paper delves into the novel application of AI-driven sentiment analysis specifically tailored for music composition. Leveraging diverse music datasets across multiple genres and eras, we introduce an innovative methodology that breaks down music into foundational features such as melody, rhythm, timbre, and harmony. Through the application of advanced AI techniques, including neural networks and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models, we aim to accurately map these features to a wide spectrum of sentiments. Our results showcase not only the potential accuracy and precision of our chosen models but also the richness of music compositions they can produce, underscoring the viability of AI in enhancing the emotional depth of musical works. In the contemporary era of information technology, the exponential surge in data has rendered colossal potential value, which would be fully unlocked through data circulation and sharing. However, when the data contains sensitive information, special attention must be paid to the data privacy and security problem for data sharing. A feasible solution is to incorporate blockchain technology into the data sharing system, and the new challenge is how to provide fair rewards for data owners to motivate them to contribute data. To address this challenge, in this paper, we first design a blockchain-based data sharing system to enhance the trust and reliability of the data shared among participants. Then we propose an incentive allocation method based on the Shapley value, which comprehensively incorporates each participant’s contribution while ensuring fairness for the allocation. Finally, multiple numerical simulations are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism. © Beijing HIWING Scientific and Technological Information Institute 2024.

Incorporating Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) into urban traffic networks presents opportunities and challenges for traffic management systems. This paper aims to develop an integrated routing and traffic signal control system designed explicitly for CAVs, utilizing a Reinforcement Learning (RL) approach. The objective is to enhance traffic flow and improve overall transportation efficiency in the controlled areas. We propose an innovative framework that employs the Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) algorithm, especially the Deep Q-network (DQN), to dynamically adjust the number of vehicles in the routes and the duration of traffic signals. Our simulation results demonstrate that a DQN agent successfully optimizes the number of vehicles in the routes and traffic signal timings of traffic signal controllers, eventually reducing total travel time. The study illustrates the potential usage of RL-based systems in managing routing and traffic signals for CAVs, offering a promising opportunity for future urban traffic management strategies. © 2024 IEEE.

In perceptive mobile networks (PMNs), using 5G new radio (NR) signals for direct sensing poses a significant challenge to practical implementation due to the high computational complexity involved in estimating sensing parameters. In this article, an efficient sensing method is proposed to incorporate both downlink active sensing and passive sensing to estimate multiple sensing parameters, including delays, Angle of Arrival (AoA), Angle of Departure (AoD), and Doppler. In particular, it exploits the synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) to facilitate sensing with multiple remote radio units (RRUs). To reduce the computational complexity of direct sensing, a sparse model is developed to decouple multiple sensing parameter estimation, enabling efficient sensing method design. Then, leveraging unitary approximate message passing (UAMP) and sparse Bayesian learning (SBL), we propose an efficient method to achieve parameter estimation and association with corresponding RRUs. This method is further extended to general scenarios involving multiple path components with the same delay. Extensive simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, showing that it outperforms the existing ones in terms of sensing accuracy and complexity. © 2014 IEEE.
