Due to its ability to precisely control wireless beams, holographic multiple-input multiple-output (HMIMO) is expected to be a promising solution to achieve high-accuracy localization. However, as the scale of HMIMO increases to improve beam control capability, the corresponding near-field (NF) region expands, indicating that users may exist in both NF and far-field (FF) regions with different electromagnetic transmission characteristics. As a result, existing methods for pure NF or FF localization are no longer applicable. We consider a hybrid NF and FF localization scenario in this paper, where a base station (BS) locates multiple users in both NF and FF regions with the aid of a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), which is a low-cost implementation of HMIMO. In such a scenario, it is difficult to locate the users and optimize the RIS phase shifts because whether the location of the user is in the NF or FF region is unknown, and the channels of different users are coupled. To tackle this challenge, we propose a RIS-enabled localization method that searches the users in both NF and FF regions and tackles the coupling issue by jointly estimating all user locations. We derive the localization error bound by considering the channel coupling and propose an RIS phase shift optimization algorithm that minimizes the derived bound. Simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed method and demonstrate the performance gain compared to pure NF and FF techniques. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Exploring open-vocabulary video action recognition is a promising venture, which aims to recognize previously unseen actions within any arbitrary set of categories. Existing methods typically adapt pretrained image-text models to the video domain, capitalizing on their inherent strengths in generalization. A common thread among such methods is the augmentation of visual embeddings with temporal information to improve the recognition of seen actions. Yet, they compromise with standard less-informative action descriptions, thus faltering when confronted with novel actions. Drawing inspiration from human cognitive processes, we argue that augmenting text embeddings with human prior knowledge is pivotal for open-vocabulary video action recognition. To realize this, we innovatively blend video models with Large Language Models (LLMs) to devise Action-conditioned Prompts. Specifically, we harness the knowledge in LLMs to produce a set of descriptive sentences that contain distinctive features for identifying given actions. Building upon this foundation, we further introduce a multi-modal action knowledge alignment mechanism to align concepts in video and textual knowledge encapsulated within the prompts. Extensive experiments on various video benchmarks, including zero-shot, few-shot, and base-to-novel generalization settings, demonstrate that our method not only sets new SOTA performance but also possesses excellent interpretability. © 2024 ACM.

Terahertz (THz) technology has become one of the key technologies of future wireless communications. In this paper, combining Through-Silicon Via (TSV) with Integrated Substrate Gap Wave-guide (ISGW), a terahertz filter metalens antenna suitable for 6G wireless communication is proposed. Based on TSV based ISGW that is capable of suppressing surface waves and reducing antenna losses, ultra-wideband filtering function is formed by circular ring resonators with different impedance branches, broadband radiation characteristics are obtained by interdigital slots, and Huygens meta-surface lens is used to improve antenna gain. A 46.1% relative bandwidth in 142-227 GHz and more than 14 dBi gain are achieved with a small footprint. This antenna is suitable for 6G THz communications.

The collaboration of computing powers (CPs) among unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)-mounted edge servers is essential to handle data-intensive tasks of user equipments (UEs). This paper presents a multi-UAV computing power network (CPN) that orchestrates the CP resources of edge servers to cooperatively process tasks through collaborative computing. Due to the frequent interactions among edge servers and the increased complexities for large-scale task executions, we propose a digital twin (DT)-driven multi-UAV CPN framework, where the aerial DT network is created as a digital replica of the multi-UAV network to assist collaborative computing. A joint optimization problem of the service association, offloading power control, task partitions, CP allocation, and UAV trajectory design is formulated to minimize the long-term average delay of UEs. We use the Lyapunov technique to tackle the long-term energy constraint, forming a tractable optimization problem, which is modeled as a Markov decision process to balance the UAV's deficit queue stability and the UE's task completion delay. A hybrid soft actor-critic based deep reinforcement learning algorithm is developed to optimize the joint design by sampling the hybrid action from the Gumbel and Gaussian distributions. Simulation results verify that the multi-UAV CPN contributes to significant performance gains when supported by DTs. © 2025 IEEE.

Fully Collusion Resistant Trace-and-Revoke Functional Encryption for Arbitrary Identities

Functional Encryption (FE) has been extensively studied in the recent years, mainly focusing on the feasibility of constructing FE for general functionalities, as well as some realizations for restricted functionalities of practical interest, such as inner-product. However, little consideration has been given to the issue of key leakage on FE. The property of FE that allows multiple users to obtain the same functional keys from the holder of the master secret key raises an important problem: if some users leak their keys or collude to create a pirate decoder, how can we identify at least one of those users, given some information about the compromised keys or the pirate decoder? Moreover, how do we disable the decryption capabilities of those users (i.e. traitors)?Two recent works have offered potential solutions to the above traitor scenario. However, the two solutions satisfy weaker notions of security and traceability, can only tolerate bounded collusions (i.e., there is an a priori bound on the number of keys the pirate decoder obtains), or can only handle a polynomially large universe of possible identities. In this paper, we study trace-and-revoke mechanism on FE and provide the first construction of trace-and-revoke FE that supports arbitrary identities, is both fully collusion resistant and fully anonymous. Our construction relies on a generic transformation from revocable predicate functional encryption with broadcast (RPFE with broadcast, which is an extension of revocable predicate encryption with broadcast proposed by Kim and J. Wu at ASIACRYPT’2020) to trace-and-revoke FE. Since this construction admits a generic construction of trace-and-revoke inner-product FE (IPFE), we instantiate the trace-and-revoke IPFE from the well-studied Learning with Errors (LWE). This is achieved by proposing a new LWE-based attribute-based IPFE (ABIPFE) scheme to instantiate RPFE with broadcast. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the increasing intelligence of power IoT terminal devices, the massive volume of data transmission, and the widespread adoption of shared services, traditional terminal boundary security mechanisms are unable to keep up with the rapid development of network technologies and applications. Additionally, they fail to trace and source network attacks, leading to frequent organized and purposeful malicious attack incidents. To address these issues, this paper proposes a research method for risk modeling and traceability of boundary attacks on power IoT terminals based on complex networks. First, based on the node information of power IoT terminal devices and complex network theory, a terminal boundary attack network (TBAN) is established. Next, using indicators related to complex network theory, such as degree, in-degree, and out-degree, the terminal boundary attack network is analyzed. Furthermore, a staged TBAN is proposed to analyze the attack risks at different times. Then, combining causal theory, a method for tracing and sourcing terminal boundary attacks based on a causal Bayesian network is proposed to identify and trace malicious attacks. Finally, validation and testing analysis are conducted using the actual deployment of power IoT terminal devices. The proposed analysis method transforms the spatial characteristics of the power IoT terminal boundary into a temporally sequential TBAN, which not only visually reflects attack risks but also reveals the temporal relationships of terminal boundary attacks between lines. © 2024 IEEE.

Outsourcing inference enables users to outsource neural network inference tasks to a service provider (e.g., a remote server). This paradigm has brought enormous convenience and effectively solved the resource-limited issues of users, especially for mobile devices. However, it still suffers from two challenges: (1) The user's input data and inference results contain a large amount of private information, which should not be disclosed. (2) The server in this setting may be malicious and hence violate the inference procedure. For example, the server may use a low-quality model to reduce costs or return wrong inference results. While several privacy-preserving inference works have been proposed, they cannot solve the above two problems at the same time. In this work, we propose PPVI, a secure and verifiable outsourcing inference scheme against malicious service providers. PPVI designs a hybrid check technique for inference integrity verification and employs leveled homomorphic encryption to protect users' privacy. These ingredients together make it possible to protect users' privacy and verify the inference correctness in outsourcing inference simultaneously. Extensive experiment results demonstrate our scheme has an excellent performance in terms of verification accuracy and communication and computational overhead.

LLM4WM: Adapting LLM for Wireless Multi-Tasking

The wireless channel is fundamental to communication, encompassing numerous tasks collectively referred to as channel-associated tasks. These tasks can leverage joint learning based on channel characteristics to share representations and enhance system design. To capitalize on this advantage, LLM4WM is proposed—a large language model (LLM) multi-task fine-tuning framework specifically tailored for channel-associated tasks. This framework utilizes a Mixture of Experts with Low-Rank Adaptation (MoE-LoRA) approach for multi-task fine-tuning, enabling the transfer of the pre-trained LLM’s general knowledge to these tasks. Given the unique characteristics of wireless channel data, preprocessing modules, adapter modules, and multi-task output layers are designed to align the channel data with the LLM’s semantic feature space. Experiments on a channel-associated multi-task dataset demonstrate that LLM4WM outperforms existing methodologies in both full-sample and few-shot evaluations, owing to its robust multi-task joint modeling and transfer learning capabilities. Brain-inspired photonic neural networks for artificial intelligence have attracted renewed interest. For many computational tasks, such as image recognition, speech processing and deep learning, photonic neural networks have the potential to increase the computing speed and energy efficiency on the orders of magnitude compared with digital electronics. Silicon Photonics, which combines the advantages of electronics and photonics, brings hope for the large-scale photonic neural network integration. This paper walks through the basic concept of artificial neural networks and focuses on the key devices which construct the silicon photonic neuromorphic systems. We review some recent important progress in silicon photonic neural networks, which include multilayer artificial neural networks and brain-like neuromorphic systems, for artificial intelligence. A prototype of silicon photonic artificial intelligence processor for ultra-fast neural network computing is also proposed. We hope this paper gives a detailed overview and a deeper understanding of this emerging field.

Wideband Beamforming for Near-Field Communications with Circular Arrays

The beamforming performance of the uniform circular array (UCA) in near-field wideband communication systems is investigated. Compared to uniform linear array (ULA), UCA exhibits uniform effective array aperture in all directions, thus enabling more users to benefit from near-field communications. In this paper, the unique beam squint effect in near-field wideband UCA systems is comprehensively analyzed in both the distance and angular domains. It is rigorously demonstrated that the beam focal point only exists at a specific frequency in wideband UCA systems, resulting in significant beamforming loss. To alleviate this unique beam squint effect, the true-time delay (TTD)-based beamforming architecture is exploited. In particular, two wideband beamforming optimization approaches leveraging TTD units are proposed. 1) Analytical approach: In this approach, the phase shifters (PSs) and the time delay of TTD units are designed based on the analytical formula for beamforming gain. Following this design, the minimum number of TTD units required to achieve a predetermined beamforming gain is quantified. 2) Joint-optimization approach: In this method, the PSs and the TTD units are jointly optimized under practical maximum delay constraints to approximate the optimal unconstrained analog beamformer. Specifically, an efficient alternating optimization algorithm is proposed, where the PSs and the TTD units are alternately updated using either the closed-form solution or the low-complexity linear search approach. Extensive numerical results demonstrate that 1) the proposed beamforming schemes effectively mitigate the beam squint effect, and 2) the joint-optimization approach outperforms the analytical approach in terms of array gain and achievable spectral efficiency.
