Real time in situ medical monitoring has become increasingly common in the past few decades, driven by the development of a wide variety of affordable sensors and power autonomous, energy efficient microcontroller platforms. Portable and unobtrusive multi-sensor data acquisition is considered routine, including real-time data processing and alerting based on measurements within or around the human body. Project MAIA has developed an intelligent baby cot system capable of monitoring sleeping infants and remotely notifying their carers under pre-programmed circumstances. It aims to add a layer of protection for infants during the first 6 months of their life, primarily targeting medical emergencies such as choking, suffocation and the elusive Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The MAIA system also aims to contribute to current paediatric medical knowledge by providing rare in situ research data. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Human flesh search(HFS), a Web-enabled crowdsourcing phenomenon, originated in China a decade ago. In this article, we present the first comprehensive empirical analysis of HFS, focusing on the scope of HFS activities, the patterns of HFS crowd collaboration process, and the characteristics of HFS participant networks. A survey of HFS participants was conducted to provide an in-depth understanding of the HFS community and various factors that motivate these participants to contribute. This article also advocates a new stream of Web science and social computing research that will be important in predicting the future growth and use of the World Wide Web.

In recent years, digital microfluidic (DMF) biochips have become the most popular and emerging technology for implementing a wide range of biochemical laboratory protocols on a small hand-held device. Due to its high-throughput, high-sensitivity, automatic control, and low cost, DMF biochips are now being considered for several real-life applications like on-chip diagnosis of various cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and others. As the complexity of biochemical assay increases, powerful computer-aided-design tools are needed for developing DMF biochips. AC synchronous motor parameters of vector control system are vulnerable to changes in operating conditions and external factors, which may influence the stability and control accuracy. To solve this problem, we proposed a parameter identification method based on model reference adaptive and Lyapunov stability theory. The identified motor parameters are used to control the amount of correction control system, with PSIM simulation software simulation platform to verify the necessity of the parameter identification. Simulation results indicate that by using this method, the performance of the synchronous motor vector control system can be improved.

This paper considers using reset control to improve transient performance and overcome some fundamental limitations of linear systems. First, an auxiliary system is presented, then, based on which, a new reset control model is proposed, such that the non-overshoot performance specification can be met for any minimum phase relative degree one plants, the results imply some limitations of linear systems are overcome and clearly illustrate the advantages of reset control. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness.
