To improve the safety and adaptability of the human–machine and environment–machine interactions, the research of soft grippers has attracted much attention. In this study a novel Soft Humanoid Hand with Variable Stiffness (SHH-VS) is presented. The SHH-VS has 6 degrees of freedom, and the design of the soft finger with variable stiffness adopts the principle of layer jamming. The SHH-VS can complete grasping, pinching, holding, lifting and other multi-skill grasping operations, using the tendon-driven mechanism. Tactile sensors are installed at the fingertips, which can realize real-time feedback of tactile information. The SHH-VS has better flexibility, greater grasping power, and multi-skill grasping ability. Through a number of grasping experiments, it has been verified that the SHH-VS has greater reliability and safety, and can be used in various daily situations. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Data-free knowledge distillation aims to learn a compact student network from a pre-trained large teacher network without using the original training data of the teacher network. Existing collection-based and generation-based methods train student networks by collecting massive real examples and generating synthetic examples, respectively. However, they inevitably become weak in practical scenarios due to the difficulties in gathering or emulating sufficient real-world data. To solve this problem, we propose a novel method called Hybrid Data-Free Distillation (HiDFD), which leverages only a small amount of collected data as well as generates sufficient examples for training student networks. Our HiDFD comprises two primary modules, i.e., the teacher-guided generation and student distillation. The teacher-guided generation module guides a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) by the teacher network to produce high-quality synthetic examples from very few real-world collected examples. Specifically, we design a feature integration mechanism to prevent the GAN from overfitting and facilitate the reliable representation learning from the teacher network. Meanwhile, we drive a category frequency smoothing technique via the teacher network to balance the generative training of each category. In the student distillation module, we explore a data inflation strategy to properly utilize a blend of real and synthetic data to train the student network via a classifier-sharing-based feature alignment technique. Intensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our HiDFD can achieve state-of-the-art performance using 120 times less collected data than existing methods. Distributed Compressed Sensing Based on Local Transformer Network

Among compressed sensing algorithms, Distributed Compressed Sensing (DCS) stands out for its ability to jointly reconstruct multiple signals, making it a focal point of interest for researchers and engineers , thanks to its outstanding efficiency in signal reconstruction. In contrast to conventional approaches that depend on a priori estimates, like joint sparsity of signals, deep neural networks leverage their robust feature extraction and sequence modeling abilities to automatically capture inter-signal dependencies. This confers them with the benefits of faster solving speed and superior reconstruction accuracy. Most of the current methods, however, do not fully utilize the global dependency information between signals, while also ignoring the detailed features within the signals. Therefore, this paper proposes a Local Transformer Network for DCS (LTN-DCS). It utilizes the self-attention mechanism to extract global contextual information between the reconstructed signal sequences, while also addressing local redundancy partitioning within the signal sequences for finer-grained information capture. This approach generates probabilistic estimates of the non-zero element positions in each signal, forming the foundation for selecting basis atoms from the sampling matrix. Finally, the least-squares method is used to achieve the signal reconstruction. Through extensive experiments, the results show that our proposed method outperforms state-ofthe art DCS methods. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Most existing multi-view graph clustering models focus on integrating the topological structure of different views directly, which cannot efficiently stimulate the collaboration between multiple views. To alleviate this problem, this paper proposes a Triangle Topology Enhancement (T2E) module, which expands two topological structures based on the raw topology of each view, including the self-triangle enhanced topology that highlights the local view information and the cross-view triangle enhanced topology containing the global-local view information. Afterward, this paper designs a novel multi-view graph clustering model, named MGC-T2E, to integrate both the raw and derived topological structures and directly induce consistent clustering indicators based on a self-supervised clustering module. In the simulation, the experimental results demonstrate that MGC-T2E achieves state-of-the-art performances compared with a mass of current competitors. © 1989-2012 IEEE.

Performance Analysis of Distributed Filtering under Misspecified Noise Covariances

This paper systematically investigates the performance of the consensus-based distributed filter under misspecified noise covariances. First, we introduce four quantities: the nominal filter parameter, the nominal estimation error covariance, the ideal filter parameter, and the ideal estimation error covariance. We derive the difference expressions among these quantities and establish the corresponding one-step relations. These relations reveal how performance deteriorates when noise covariances are misspecified, and demonstrate how to evaluate the estimation error covariance using the available nominal filter parameter. We particularly highlight the effect of the information fusion step number on these relations. Furthermore, recursive relations are introduced by extending the results of the one-step relations. Subsequently, we demonstrate the convergence of these quantities under the collective observability condition, and show that the convergence condition of the nominal filter parameter can guarantee the convergence of the estimation error covariance. Additionally, we provide bounds on the estimation error covariance under misspecified noise covariances by utilizing the Frobenius norms of the noise covariance deviations and the trace of the nominal filter parameter. Finally, the effectiveness of the theoretical results is verified through numerical simulations. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Cross-modal reasoning (CMR), the intricate process of synthesizing and drawing inferences across divergent sensory modalities, is increasingly recognized as a crucial capability in the progression toward more sophisticated and anthropomorphic artificial intelligence systems. Large Language Models (LLMs) represent a class of AI algorithms specifically engineered to parse, produce, and engage with human language on an extensive scale. The recent trend of deploying LLMs to tackle CMR tasks has marked a new mainstream of approaches for enhancing their effectiveness. This survey offers a nuanced exposition of current methodologies applied in CMR using LLMs, classifying these into a detailed three-tiered taxonomy. Moreover, the survey delves into the principal design strategies and operational techniques of prototypical models within this domain. Additionally, it articulates the prevailing challenges associated with the integration of LLMs in CMR and identifies prospective research directions. To sum up, this survey endeavors to expedite progress within this burgeoning field by endowing scholars with a holistic and detailed vista, showcasing the vanguard of current research whilst pinpointing potential avenues for advancement. FIRE: A Dataset for Feedback Integration and Refinement Evaluation of Multimodal Models

Vision language models (VLMs) have achieved impressive progress in diverse applications, becoming a prevalent research direction. In this paper, we build FIRE, a feedback-refinement dataset, consisting of 1.1M multi-turn conversations that are derived from 27 source datasets, empowering VLMs to spontaneously refine their responses based on user feedback across diverse tasks. To scale up the data collection, FIRE is collected in two components: FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, where FIRE-100K is generated by GPT-4V, and FIRE-1M is freely generated via models trained on FIRE-100K. Then, we build FIRE-Bench, a benchmark to comprehensively evaluate the feedback-refining capability of VLMs, which contains 11K feedback-refinement conversations as the test data, two evaluation settings, and a model to provide feedback for VLMs. We develop the FIRE-LLaVA model by fine-tuning LLaVA on FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, which shows remarkable feedback-refining capability on FIRE-Bench and outperforms untrained VLMs by 50%, making more efficient user-agent interactions and underscoring the significance of the FIRE dataset. Whether in the realms of computer vision, robotics, or environmental monitoring, the ability to monitor and follow specific targets amidst intricate surroundings is essential for numerous applications. However, achieving rapid and efficient target tracking remains a challenge. Here we propose an optical implementation for rapid tracking with negligible digital post-processing, leveraging an all-optical information processing. This work combines a diffractive-based optical nerual network with a layered liquid crystal electrical addressing architecture, synergizing the parallel processing capabilities inherent in light propagation with liquid crystal dynamic adaptation mechanism. Through a one-time effort training, the trained network enable accurate prediction of the desired arrangement of liquid crystal molecules as confirmed through numerical blind testing. Then we establish an experimental camera architecture that synergistically combines an electrically-tuned functioned liquid crystal layer with materialized optical neural network. With integrating the architecture into optical imaging path of a detector plane, this optical computing camera offers a data-driven diffractive guidance, enabling the identification of target within complex backgrounds, highlighting its high-level vision task implementation and problem-solving capabilities. © The Author(s) 2024.
