Lyapunov stability of generalized ribosome flows*

In this paper we show that a wide class of compartmental systems with bounded capacities called generalized ribosome flow models are stable with an entropy-like logarithmic Lyapunov function known from the theory of nonnegative systems and reaction networks. The stability proof uses the kinetic representation of the compartmental model and earlier approaches applied for the input-to-state stability analysis of reaction networks with time-varying reaction rates. The results are valid not only for mass action type systems but also for models with more general reaction rates. Illustrative examples are given to show the qualitative dynamical properties of simple generalized ribosome flow models.

The paper is devoted to study of the influence of rolling modes on the performance of powerful interconnected electric drives of a hot rolling mill under the action of an electromagnetic coupling circuit between the electric drives of the roughing and finishing groups. The action of the electromagnetic coupling circuit manifests itself in the form of the influence of impact loads of synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of direct current electric drives of the finishing group of the mill. The parameters of the electromagnetic coupling circuit are determined by the power supply scheme and equipment parameters. Values of impact loads applied to a synchronous motor depend on the rolling process parameters, in particular, the chemical composition of the rolled steel and the temperature of the ingot. The paper presents the results of calculating the rolling power for various rolling mode parameters. Using mathematical modeling in Simulink, numerical estimates of the influence of rolling modes on the magnitude of the voltage drop in the power supply unit and the drop in the angular velocity of the electric drive of the finishing group were obtained on the example of a wide-strip hot rolling mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC. © 2023 IEEE.

In the present paper the mathematical model of a wafer manufacturing process is presented using Discrete Event systems. The novelty of the proposed mathematical description is the parametric number of vacuum chambers and robotic manipulators, as well as that three vacuum chambers and the respective buffers are served by each robotic manipulator. The last robotic manipulator serves a parametric number of champers depending on the total number of vacuum chambers modulo 3. The desired behavior of the process is expressed in the form of a set of regular languages. The realization of each regular language in the form of a supervisor automaton is developed. The satisfactory performance of the controlled automaton is derived. The present result can be considered as the first attempt towards the study of wafer manufacturing processes, where each robotic manipulator serves a parametric number of vacuum chambers and buffers.

This note studies state estimation in wireless networked control systems with secrecy against eavesdropping. Specifically, a sensor transmits a system state information to the estimator over a legitimate user link, and an eavesdropper overhears these data over its link independent of the user link. Each connection may be affected by packet losses and is modeled by a finite-state Markov channel (FSMC), an abstraction widely used to design wireless communication systems. This paper presents a novel concept of optimal mean square expected secrecy over FSMCs and delineates the design of a secrecy parameter requiring the user mean square estimation error (MSE) to be bounded and eavesdropper MSE unbounded. We illustrate the developed results on an example of an inverted pendulum on a cart whose parameters are estimated remotely over a wireless link exposed to an eavesdropper.

This paper presents a new multiple step approximate linear solution for the estimation of aircraft angular rates and ground velocity vector direction from optical flow. It is compared to the simplest nonlinear method from the literature. Basic simulation tests show that it is faster and equally or more accurate than the methods published before so detailed evaluation in more realistic conditions will be the future research direction.

Spiking neural networks (SNNs) have captured apparent interest over the recent years, stemming from neuroscience and reaching the field of artificial intelligence. However, due to their nature SNNs remain far behind in achieving the exceptional performance of deep neural networks (DNNs). As a result, many scholars are exploring ways to enhance SNNs by using learning techniques from DNNs. While this approach has been proven to achieve considerable improvements in SNN performance, we propose another perspective: enhancing the biological plausibility of the models to leverage the advantages of SNNs fully. Our approach aims to propose a brain-like combination of audio-visual signal processing for recognition tasks, intended to succeed in more bio-plausible human-robot interaction applications. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

This paper presents a study for optimizing a hot rolling mill. The paper is devoted to the study of ways to reduce the effect of shock loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing mill group on the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling stands of the finishing mill group. The elasticity of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling mill has a significant impact on the movement of intercoupled multi-motor electric drives of the finishing mill group. Another crucial route of exposure that influences the motion of the electric drives within the finishing mill group involves the electromagnetic connection between the drives in the roughing and finishing mill groups. The impact of the electromagnetically connected circuits is evident through the effect of shock loads from synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of the direct current electric drives within the finishing mill group. The characteristics of the electromagnetic communication circuit are established by the power grid arrangement and equipment specifications. To assess the quality of work of electric drives of the finishing mill group, it is proposed to use the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap, which is an important indirect indicator of the quality of rolling. The mathematical model of a hot rolling mill that takes into account both the elasticity of the metal strip that connects the DC electric drives of the finishing group, and the electromagnetic coupling circuit that takes into account the impact loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing group on the example of the mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC was proposed in this paper. This study proposes a method for recognizing the engravings on the spigot ends of ductile iron pipes based on an improved YOLOX model. Ductile iron pipes, known for their excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, are widely used in critical fields such as municipal water supply, drainage, and gas transportation. To ensure product quality and achieve traceability, identification information is typically engraved on the spigot ends of ductile iron pipes during production. However, traditional manual recognition methods are inefficient and prone to human error. To address this issue, this paper proposes an automated engraving recognition system based on an improved YOLOX model. By integrating techniques such as Depthwise Separable Convolutions, a multi-scale feature extraction network, and an adaptive attention mechanism, the YOLOX model structure is further optimized to enhance recognition accuracy and robustness in complex industrial environments. Experimental results demonstrate that the improved YOLOX model surpasses traditional models in both recognition accuracy and computational efficiency, proving its effectiveness and reliability for industrial production applications.

This study addresses linear attacks on remote state estimation within the context of a constrained alarm rate. Smart sensors, which are equipped with local Kalman filters, transmit innovations instead of raw measurements through a wireless communication network. This transmission is vulnerable to malicious data interception and manipulation by attackers. The aim of this research is to identify the optimal attack strategy that degrades the system performance while adhering to stealthiness constraints. A notable innovation of this paper is the direct association of the attack’s stealthiness with the alarm rate, diverging from traditional approaches that rely on the covariance of the innovation or the Kullback–Leibler divergence, which are conventional metrics that have been extensively explored in previous studies. Our findings reveal that the optimal attack strategy exhibits some structural characteristics in systems of low dimensions. The performance of the proposed attack strategy is demonstrated through numerical examples.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a nonlinear signal that reflects the physio-logical state of the brain at different times, containing rich information. However, the possible interference during the collection and transmission process often leads to a large amount of unnecessary noise in the EEG signal. Traditional denoising methods may face difficulties in high-dimensional data processing and the inability to effectively handle different types of Gaussian white noise. To better eliminate the interference of Gaussian white noise, this article specifically adopts the Hierarchical Rauch-Tung-Striebel Smoother (HRTS) method. This method can effectively integrate the learned structural prior EEG signals into the state space model, thereby describing the relationship between EEG signals and noise. Capture the spatiotemporal characteristics of EEG signals through hierarchical modeling, and optimize the components of EEG signals through estimation and prediction of hidden variables. Finally, the mean square error (MSE) is used as an evaluation indicator to compare and evaluate the denoising results. Empirical research has shown that the HRTS algorithm can not only effectively reduce runtime and better process high-dimensional data, but also significantly improve the quality of EEG signals, effectively suppress noise interference, and more accurately reflect the characteristics of brain activity. Compared to denoising algorithms such as Kalman filtering and Kalman wavelet filtering, the HRTS algorithm has more advantages in denoising EEG signals. © 2024, J. Network Intell.
