Enhanced fault diagnosis of wind energy conversion systems using ensemble learning based on sine cosine algorithm

This paper investigates the problem of incipient fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) in wind energy conversion systems (WECS) using an innovative and effective approach called the ensemble learning-sine cosine optimization algorithm (EL-SCOA). The evolved strategy involves two primary steps: first, a sine-cosine algorithm is used to extract and optimize features in order to only select the most descriptive ones. Second, to further improve the capability, thereby providing the highest accuracy performance, the newly gathered dataset is introduced as input to an ensemble learning paradigm, which merges the benefits of boosting and bagging techniques with an artificial neural network classifier. The essential goal of the developed proposal is to discriminate between the diverse operating conditions (one healthy and six faulty conditions). Three potential and frequent types of faults that can affect the system behaviors including short-circuit, open-circuit, and wear-out are considered and thereby injected at diverse locations and sides (grid and generator sides) in order to evaluate the availability and performance of the proposed technique when compared to the conventional FDD methods. The diagnosis performance is analyzed in terms of accuracy, recall, precision, and computation time. The acquired outcomes demonstrate the efficiency of the suggested diagnostic paradigm compared to conventional FDD techniques (accuracy rate has been successfully achieved 98.35%). © 2023, This is a U.S. Government work and not under copyright protection in the US;foreign copyright protection may apply.

This paper highlights the importance of using a Doubly-Fed Induction Generators (DFIG) in the wind industry due to their ability to adapting for all variations in wind speed, thus providing increased efficiency and reliability. However, like any machine, DFIG are not immune to dysfunctional problems and faults (sensor faults, actuator faults and system faults) which affect energy production. To remedy this problem, we develop a Fault Detection and Insolation (FDI) system for sensors fault diagnosis in wind turbine. This work specifically addresses the use of observer's bench to detect and locate faults, such as intermittent sensor faults, inter-coil short circuits, emphasizing a multi-model approach. We use the Dedicated Observer Structure (DOS) and the Generalized Observer Structure (GOS) to solve the complex challenge of multiple and simultaneous sensor fault. Simulation results are presented to assess the effectiveness of the proposed diagnostic methods.

Learn to Bid as a Price-Maker Wind Power Producer

Wind power producers (WPPs) participating in short-term power markets face significant imbalance costs due to their non-dispatchable and variable production. While some WPPs have a large enough market share to influence prices with their bidding decisions, existing optimal bidding methods rarely account for this aspect. Price-maker approaches typically model bidding as a bilevel optimization problem, but these methods require complex market models, estimating other participants’ actions, and are computationally demanding. To address these challenges, we propose an online learning algorithm that leverages contextual information to optimize WPP bids in the price-maker setting. We formulate the strategic bidding problem as a contextual multi-armed bandit, ensuring provable regret minimization. The algorithm’s performance is evaluated against various benchmark strategies using a numerical simulation of the German day-ahead and real-time markets. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. This article presents an experimental stand for the remote control of a D.C. motor used to drive a conveyor belt. This is based on two development boards Arduino Uno and two shields NRF24L01. The D. C. motor is supplied from a D.C. voltage source by means of the H type bridge. The emitter circuit sends the control signal generated through a potentiometer to the receptor circuit by means of radio waves at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. The receptor circuit receives the analogue signal emitted by the emitting circuit, transforms it into a PWM (pulse width modulation) signal and uses it for controlling the transistors of the H-bridge. For implementing and validating the remote control system of the D.C. motor two programs have been issued in the programming environment Arduino IDE for the two circuits. emitter and receptor. The remote control system of the D.C. motor has been running in the same way as the direct control of this. The remote control is used in the case of the electric actuation systems made with D.C. motors continuous used in spaces inaccessible to the human operator. © 2024 IEEE.

The structure of the rocket-borne model is inherently complex, with processed images exhibiting high resolution and generating substantial amounts of data and calculations. Achieving robust real-Time computing on an embedded platform poses significant challenges due to strictly limited resources, power consumption constraints, and size limitations. Our review of rocket-borne applications reveals considerable variability in the design resources of different devices, indicating a need for expanded design approaches. Upon evaluating existing methods, we identified two primary drawbacks. First, certain operators within the high-resolution target detection model are difficult to parallelize, resulting in significant inference delays that hinder the ability to meet task requirements. Although existing methods have been extended, there remains significant potential for performance enhancement in core scheduling for poor acceleration. This paper proposes an optimized architecture for the target detection algorithm accelerator designed for high-resolution images, along with a novel highly parallel data pre-processing and post-processing module implemented on FPGA to address these issues. Compared to the ARM implementation, this architecture demonstrates an improved performance of 24.64x. Furthermore, to ensure flexible application across various rocket launch scenarios, we introduce an optimization structure for convolution, pooling, and fusion operators and a multi-core expansion optimization method. This approach yields a 1.29x improvement in computing unit utilization compared to state-of-The-Art multi-core scaling efforts. Finally, we assessed the accelerator architecture across multiple FPGA platforms, achieving a peak processing element utilization rate of 99.71% for a single core and layer. For the category of large-scale nonlinear processes that are composed of a set of linked monovariable systems and represented by discrete input-output models with unknown time-varying coefficients, the current study proposes a recursive algorithm of maximum likelihood estimation based on the fuzzy inference technique. This recursive estimator employs a prediction error strategy and a maximum likelihood estimation algorithm to formulate the issue of estimating the parameters of the process under consideration. The established parameter estimation approach is enhanced by the addition of the Mamdani fuzzy inference system. A numerical simulation exemplar is used to verify the efficacy of the generated theoretical results.. © 2022 IEEE.

Moving target defense (MTD) is a promising approach to defend against load redistribution attacks on the internet-of-things (IoT)-based smart grid networks by probing the distorted state estimates with the distributed flexible AC transmission system. However, existing studies mainly focus on optimizing the performance of MTD and ignore the safety effect of it on the system’s operation. In this paper, we fill this gap by deeply analyzing the effect of MTD on the small signal stability and aim to alleviate the negative impact and guarantee its defending performance simultaneously. Firstly, the stability is formally described using the eigenvalue sensitivity. The relationship between the MTD-induced perturbation (MTDper) and the stability criteria is derived. Secondly, a new indicator is proposed to measure the effectiveness of MTDper. Thirdly, a constrained optimization problem is formulated to compute the bound of MTDper for guaranteeing the small signal stability. In addition, a surprising finding is that the stability margin can be improved and enhanced by optimizing the value of MTDper without losing the MTD’s effectiveness. Finally, we evaluate the performance of MTDper and its impact on the small signal stability with extensive simulations on the IEEE 30-bus, 39-bus, and 68-bus test power systems. © 2014 IEEE.

Certain applications of wireless sensor networks require that the sensor nodes should be aware of their position relative to the sensor environment. Generally in the applications of positioning in the internet of things (IoT), there is a deficiency of localization precision and concrete results. It is really important to maintain high-efficient localization schemes for the Internet of things, especially for wireless sensor networks. For that, an improved DV-hop algorithm is proposed in this paper to move for more accurate results based on the least square method. Therefore, the weight coefficient is calculated between an anchor node and the other anchor nodes using the mean square method. Then, this weighting coefficient, the hop size, will be applied between the unknown nodes and the anchor nodes in order to determine the distances. The computed hop-size average significantly enhances the positioning accuracy which is approved by the experiments that explain how suitable this improved Last-Square DV-hop Algorithm is for localization in WSN. © 2022 IEEE.

In this work, an attempt is made for the first time to use the measurement pattern generated by morphological transformation quantified by Hausdorff fractal dimension (HFD) and classified with ensemble learning based on bagging. The proposed work uses three morphological transformations for image preprocessing: hit-and-miss transform (HMT), white (WHT), and black top-hat (BHT). The pattern texture of US breast images is described by extracting the HFD from the regions of interest (ROI) after the ultrasound (US) images have been preprocessed. The main objective of this study was achieved by comparatively analyzing the classification performance of features using the Random Forest (RF), Extra Trees (ET) classifier, and bagging ensemble method based on XGBoot classifier. In presented study, the XGBoost classifier and BHT image processing method give an accuracy of 89.8% in a binary classification, benign versus malignant breast cancer. © 2024 IEEE.
