Chimera states in spatiotemporal dynamical systems have been investigated in physical, chemical, and biological systems, and have been shown to be robust against random perturbations. How do chimera states achieve their robustness? We uncover a self-adaptation behavior by which, upon a spatially localized perturbation, the coherent component of the chimera state spontaneously drifts to an optimal location as far away from the perturbation as possible, exposing only its incoherent component to the perturbation to minimize the disturbance. A systematic numerical analysis of the evolution of the spatiotemporal pattern of the chimera state towards the optimal stable state reveals an exponential relaxation process independent of the spatial location of the perturbation, implying that its effects can be modeled as restoring and damping forces in a mechanical system and enabling the articulation of a phenomenological model. Not only is the model able to reproduce the numerical results, it can also predict the trajectory of drifting. Our finding is striking as it reveals that, inherently, chimera states possess a kind of "intelligence" in achieving robustness through self adaptation. The behavior can be exploited for controlled generation of chimera states with their coherent component placed in any desired spatial region of the system. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. This paper combines the regional pole placement technique with the geometric control theory to design the feedback control for the nonlinear wind turbine generator system (WTGS), which can improve the dynamic response efficiently. Through constructing the appropriate diffeomorphism and feedback linearization, the key variables of the original nonlinear WTGS can be remained in the transformed linear-form system, which sustains that the dynamic response could be adjusted in the transformed linear framework. Due to the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) and high-order characteristics, the regional pole placement technique is then applied on the feedback linearized WTGS, which can guarantee the limitation of several performances related to the dynamic response. In such a way, the dynamic response of WTGS can be adjusted through the feedback linearization and regional pole placement techniques. Simulation results show the effectiveness of our results.

With the increase of wind power capacity incorporated into the grid, the permeability of wind power increases continuously, which leads to the reduction of the equivalent inertia of the system. A new strategy of recovering rotor speed that increases the output power by modifying the variable power curve is proposed in this paper, which decreases the drop of the active power. So as to reduce the secondary frequency dips caused by the sudden drop of the active power when the speed restores. The paper optimizes the secondary frequency dips by modifying the variable power curve continuously. This article simulates this strategy through setting up a system by Simulink. Compared with the traditional recovery strategy, validity of the proposed strategy is demonstrated through simulation and analysis.

Rotor speed recovery will cause the secondary frequency dips when DFIG uses rotor inertial control to participate in system frequency modulation. In order to optimize the secondary frequency dips, this paper uses PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) to optimize the Parameters of Variable Power Functions on the basis of the previously proposed variable power curve strategy. This article simulates this strategy through setting up a system by Simulink. Simulate the results of optimization, compared with the traditional recovery strategy, validity of the proposed strategy is demonstrated through simulation and analysis.

In this paper, we consider the H∞ control problem for a class of 2-D Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy described by the second Fornasini-Machesini local state-space model with time-delays and missing measurements. The state delays are allowed to be time-varying within a known interval. The measurement output is subject to randomly intermittent packet dropouts governed by a random sequence satisfying the Bernoulli distribution. The purpose of the addressed problem is to design an output-feedback controller such that the closed-loop system is globally asymptotically stable in the mean square and the prescribed H∞ performance index is satisfied. By employing a combination of the intensive stochastic analysis and the free weighting matrix method, several delay-range-dependent sufficient conditions are presented that guarantee the existence of the desired controllers for all possible time-delays and missing measurements. The explicit expressions of such controllers are derived by means of the solution to a class of convex optimization problems that can be solved via standard software packages. Finally, a numerical simulation example is given to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed control scheme. © 2016 IEEE.

This laboratory based research build a process control system as water level scanner in interaction tank used for water cooling. The control valve parameter based on water level between tanks are interacted. The control method of tank valve ratio choosed in this reasearch is integral control and robust control. The desired control specification for maximum overshoot is 10%, peak time is 1 second, and error steady state is 0. The design process executed in physic system modelling step and system design criteria. Experiment executed using Matlab Script and Matlab Simulink. The simulation result will be compared to see an effective performance for processing of water cooling interaction tank control method. The design result for integral control can tracking reference accord to system design criteria and robust control can tracking reference without different experience either the system without disturbance or the system with disturbance.

In view of the reduction of wind turbine operating efficiency caused by wind speed measurement errors, this paper proposes a rated power control strategy for wind turbines for practical applications; in order to solve the problem that the pitch PI controller parameters of wind turbines are not easy to calculate and tune in the process of design and optimization, this paper proposes a complete set of methods for parameter tuning of pitch control PI controllers for wind turbines. This paper establishes a Bladed-Matlab co-simulation platform, uses Bladed software to build a complete model of a 2MW wind turbine, and designs a rated power control strategy for wind turbines. After the wind turbine model is linearized at different wind speed points by applying Bladed software, the linearized model for PI parameter tuning is obtained, and then the optimal PI parameters for each wind speed point are set by using particle swarm algorithm. According to the variation law between the PI parameters and the pitch angle obtained before, the PI parameters are adjusted adaptively by variable gain PI control. The simulation results show the superiority of the control strategy and parameter tuning method used in this paper.

Managing a large volume of multimedia data, which contain various modalities (visual, audio, and text), reveals the need for a specialized multimedia database system (MMDS) to efficiently model, process, store and retrieve video shots based on their semantic content. This demo introduces METU-MMDS, an intelligent MMDS which employs both machine learning and database techniques. The system extracts semantic content automatically by using visual, audio and textual data, stores the extracted content in an appropriate format and uses this content to efficiently retrieve video shots. The system architecture supports various multimedia query types including unimodal querying, multimodal querying, query-by-concept, query-by-example, and utilizes a multimedia index structure for efficiently querying multi-dimensional multimedia data. We demonstrate METU-MMDS for semantic data extraction from videos and complex multimedia querying by considering content and concept-based queries containing all modalities. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

In this paper, we make an investigation on the summean-square-error (sum-MSE) performance gain achieved by DFT-based least-square (LS) channel estimator over frequencydomain LS one in full-duplex OFDM system in the presence of colored interference and noise. The closed-form expression of the sum-MSE performance gain is given. Its simple upper and lower bounds are derived by using inequalities of matrix eigen-values. By simulation and analysis, the upper lower bound is shown to be close to the exact value of MSE gain as the ratio of the number N of total subcarriers to the cyclic prefix length L grows and the correlation factor of colored interference increases. More importantly, we also find that the MSE gain varies from one to N/L as the correlation among colored interferences decreases gradually. According to theoretical analysis, we also find the MSE gain has very simple forms in two extreme scenarios. In the first extreme case that the colored interferences over all subchannels are fully correlated, i.e., their covariance matrix is a matrix of allones, the sum-MSE gain reduces to 1. In other words, there is no performance gain. In the second extreme case that the coloredinterference covariance matrix is an identity matrix, i.e, they are mutually independent, the achievable sum-MSE performance gain is N/L. A large ratio N/L will achieve a significant sum-MSE gain. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.
