Street lights currently use more energy than other types of lighting because of an inefficient mechanism that makes the bulbs use a lot of electricity. The suggested approach uses various sensors on intelligent streetlights to keep an eye on and manage the lights. It has sensors for measuring temperature, brightness, and power that control dimming levels and keep track of status. One Zigbee network serves as the connection point for these lights. In the modification, a cloud- and IoT-based installation was made. Through Zigbee -based data transmission, sensor values are recorded on a distant server known as the Cloud. Additionally, it lowers electricity theft. We include a trash can notice in addition to this street light idea. When the garbage can is whole, a machine automatically notifies the business as people approach the sun, and the brightness of the street lights changes or is increased. © 2024 IEEE.

Keeping Behavioral Programs Alive: Specifying and Executing Liveness Requirements

One of the benefits of using executable specifications such as Behavioral Programming (BP) is the ability to align the system implementation with its requirements. This is facilitated in BP by a protocol that allows independent implementation modules that specify what the system may, must, and must not do. By that, each module can enforce a single system requirement, including negative specifications such as "don’t do X after Y." The existing BP protocol, however, allows only the enforcement of safety requirements and does not support the execution of liveness properties such as "do X at least three times." To model liveness requirements in BP directly and independently, we propose idioms for tagging states with "must-finish," indicating that tasks are yet to be completed. We show that this idiom allows a direct specification of known requirements patterns from the literature. We also offer semantics and two execution mechanisms, one based on a translation to Büchi automata and the other based on a Markov decision process (MDP). The latter approach offers the possibility of utilizing deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms, which bear the potential to handle large software systems effectively. This paper presents a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the proposed approach using a proof-of-concept tool. In this study, we introduce a novel Hybrid Federated Learning (HybridFL) approach aimed at enhancing privacy and accuracy in collaborative machine learning scenarios. Our methodology integrates Differential Privacy (DP) and secret sharing techniques to address inference risks during training and protect against information leakage in the output model. Drawing inspiration from recent advances, we present a HybridFL framework that combines the strengths of Homomorphic Encryption (HE) and Multi-Party Computation (MPC) to achieve secure computation without the computational overhead of pure HE methods. Our contributions include a privacy-preserving design for Federated Learning (FL) that ensures local data privacy through secret sharing while leveraging DP mechanisms for noise addition. The system offers resilience against unreliable participants and is evaluated using various machine learning models, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP), and linear regression. Furthermore, we address potential external threats by deploying predictive model outputs as robust services against inference attacks. Experimental results demonstrate improved accuracy and convergence speed, establishing the viability of HybridFL as an effective solution for collaborative machine learning with enhanced privacy guarantees. © ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2025.

Hadoop is currently the most popular big data processing architecture, which provides a processing framework for managing and analyzing massive data. Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is the core component for storing data in the Hadoop systems. It performs well when storing and managing large-sized files. However, it shows extremely bad performance when dealing with a large number of small files, which is reflected in the consumption of a large amount of memory space of the NameNode node and the low efficiency of accessing small files. Archive file is proposed to solve this problem. It combines small files into larger merged files for storage, and uses index files to record the relevant information of small files in the merged files. However, archive files (e.g., Hadoop Archive, MapFile) all require additional processing and multiple I/O operations to obtain index information before actually accessing the file content, which reduces the efficiency of file access. This paper proposes a novel distributed file storing mechanism called B+ Tree-Based Distributed File Storing mechanism (BTDFS), which combines a large number of small files into a merged file, records the index information of the small files in the merged file, and organizes the index information into a B+ tree for storage. Using BTDFS, while reducing the metadata consumption of the NameNode node, improves the access performance of a single small file with additional abilities, which provides convenience for analyzing a large number of small files. Finally, this paper designs corresponding experiments for the proposed BTDFS, and tests and analyzes the memory usage in N ameN ode and the access performance of small files. The experimental results show that the proposed BTDFS can effectively reduce the memory usage of the NameNode, and the efficiency of accessing small files is improved compared with state-of-the-art methods. © 2022 IEEE.

VisioSLR: A Vision Data-Driven Framework for Sign Language Video Recognition and Performance Evaluation on Fine-Tuned YOLO Models

With the emergence of AI for good, there has been an increasing interest in building computer vision data-driven deep learning inclusive AI solutions. Sign language Recognition (SLR) has gained attention recently. It is an essential component of a sign-to-text translation system to support the deaf and hard-of-hearing population. This paper presents a computer VISIOn data-driven deep learning framework for Sign Language video Recognition (VisoSLR). VisioSLR provides a precise measurement of translating signs for developing an end-to-end computational translation system. Considering the scarcity of sign language datasets, which hinders the development of an accurate recognition model, we evaluate the performance of our framework by fine-tuning the very well-known YOLO models, which are built from a signs-unrelated collection of images and videos, using a small-sized sign language dataset. Gathering a sign language dataset for signs training would involve an enormous amount of time to collect and annotate videos in different environmental setups and multiple signers, in addition to the training time of a model. Numerical evaluations of VisioSLR show that our framework recognizes signs with a mean average precision of 97.4%, 97.1%, and 95.5% and 11, 12, and 12 milliseconds of recognition time on YOLOv8m, YOLOv9m, and YOLOv11m, respectively.

According to the requirement of recognizing traffic police gestures for driver assistance systems and intelligent vehicles, a universal model for dynamic traffic police gesture recognition is firstly introduced, of which can accurately present the spatial context (such as the relative lengths of skeletons, the angles between each skeleton w. r. t. gravity, and part features) of the traffic police gestures. Secondly, an architecture which can respectively extract spatial context and temporal features of dynamic traffic police gesture is proposed. Meanwhile, deep neural network and LSTM are introduced to build a high-resolution traffic police gestures recognizer (namely HRTPGR). At last, the open Police Gesture Dataset is used to train and test TPGR, and the experimental results show that the TPGR achieves a state-of-the-art accuracy with 98.7% for dynamic traffic police gestures recognition, and has strong anti-interference ability to light, background and gesture shape changes. © 2023 IEEE.

Ceylon tea industry faces a major challenge in the form of pathogen-induced crop loss, with Blister Blight (BB) caused by Exobasidium vexans posing the greatest threat, leading to harvest losses of over 30%. This fungus attacks the tender tea shoots, resulting in a direct negative impact on the tea harvest. This paper presents a system to identify the suspicious tea leaves and BB disease at its early stages along with an assessment of severity, offering a potential solution to this critical issue. By utilizing real-time object detection, the system filters out non-tea leaves from the captured initial image of a segment of a tea plant. The identified tea leaves are then subjected to BB identification and severity assessment based on differing visual symptoms of the BB stages. This approach enables the system to accurately identify BB in the initial stage and severity stage, allowing for timely and targeted intervention to minimize crop losses. The YOLOv8 model has been able to correctly identify 98% of the objects it has detected as relevant (precision), and it has been able to correctly identify 96% of all the relevant objects present in the scene (recall). The Residual Network 50 (Resnet50) convolutional neural network (CNN) model was selected as the final model, achieving an accuracy of 89.90% during the training phase and an accuracy of 88.26% during the testing phase. © 2023 IEEE.
