The problem of detecting top influential users in social networks is known as the influence maximization problem. Top social network influencers play a significant role in different fields like virtual marketing, politics, and public health. There are various techniques and methods implemented to identify the top influential users for maximizing the influence within social networks. There exist, however, a real challenge to effectively reach those top influential users with both high accuracy and less computational time. This paper proposes an efficient approach for the problem of influence maximization based on communities' identification. A proposed approach LCS includes three stages: firstly, the application of the Louvain community detection algorithm to detect the different communities of the social network graph. Secondly, executing the CRANK algorithm to rank and sort the generated communities-based CRANK main four metrics. Finally, the selection of the top seed nodes from the sorted communities using degree centrality. Experimental results conducted on three social network datasets, under an Independent Cascade model for verification, show the effectiveness of the proposed approach compared to the centrality-based heuristics. Additionally, comparable results are achieved against greedy algorithms with far less time complexity. © 2021 IEEE.

Traditional crowd evacuation simulation methods focus on the analysis of individual behavior in the crowd, but ignore the analysis of potential group properties in the process of crowd motion, which reduces the visual realism of the crowd evacuation simulation process. During crowd motion, crowds cause unconscious self-organization due to common destinations and social relationships, thus forming groups. Considering the influence of group properties on crowd motion is important to improve the visual realism of crowd motion simulation. To address this problem, we propose a crowd motion modeling method for group properties analysis (GPA-CMM). First, we build a data-driven group properties quantification (DGPQ) model to describe the characteristics of group motion accurately. In the model, we divide the crowd into several groups, extract motion properties of the crowd, and quantify the features of intra-group stability and inter-group conflict. Then, in order to analyze their influences of group properties, we build a stability and conflict based crowd motion analysis (SC-CMA) model. Finally, we implement a crowd simulation system based on SC-CMA, visualize the results of the theoretical analysis in a graphical way. The experimental results show that the method can simulate crowd motion more realistically. © 2022 IEEE.

With the continuous urban expansion, the safety of public places has attracted more and more attention. Once an accident occurs and people distrust their surroundings, it will cause congestion, trampling and other events. Individual trust value is particularly important in crowd evacuation. However, it is very difficult to evaluate the individual credibility with existing methods. We propose a blockchain-based crowd-sensing trust management mechanism (B-CSTM) to address this problem. First, we provide a message credibility evaluation mechanism that can evaluate the credibility of messages sent by individuals on spot. Second, we developed a trust calculation method that uses a distributed Evacuation Perception Unit (EPU) to calculate individuals' trust values by perception scores. Finally, we build a blockchain-based trust management mechanism model that uses blockchain to store and query trust values. Through experimental analysis, we visualize the trust results in the evacuation scenario. It is shown that the mechanism is feasible for the management of trust values (collection, calculation and storage, etc.) in crowd evacuation. © 2022 IEEE.

Since the 6G mobile wireless networks require the high-performances on both channel state estimations and information transmissions, the technique of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has attracted considerable research attention due to its ability to sense and communicate by sharing the same frequency band and hardware. However, how to jointly optimize the sensing and communication functions of the ISAC to support the 6G traffic transmissions over a time-varying wireless fading channel has imposed many new challenges not encountered before. To conquer these difficulties, in this paper we propose the ISAC scheme to jointly sense the channel state and transmit the wireless-streaming data using massive multiple-input and multiple-output (massive MIMO) communications over the Rician fading channel. First, we establish the system models for the ISAC scheme under the Rician fading wireless channel and the channel state estimation scheme using the radar sensing feedback. Second, we define the channel state estimation distortion and the capacity-distortion function of a massive MIMO channel to jointly measure the performances of sensing and communication in our ISAC scheme. Third, we integrate the capacity-distortion function with the finite blocklength coding (FBC) scheme by developing the concept of the ISAC-based E-effective capacity to implement the statistical delay and error-rate bounded provisioning for supporting the 6G traffic under our ISAC scheme. Finally, we use numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our proposed ISAC scheme with massive MIMO in the non-asymptotic regime.

The surveillance videos captured by cameras deployed in large-scale places can provide help for path planning of crowd evacuation in emergencies. However, most surveillance videos are not allowed to be shared in order to avoid privacy disclosure. Thus, it is difficult to obtain the video data of the whole scenario for path planning which greatly reduces effectiveness of path planning. How to provide global path planning for crowd evacuation while ensuring privacy protection is a challenging problem. To solve this problem, we propose a federated learning based path planning method for crowd evacuation. In this method, the potential field model are introduced into the federated learning framework to provide the privacy protection since only the potential field information is aggregated between the camera terminal and the central server, instead of the surveillance videos. First, we construct the local potential field for the surveillance scene of each camera by extracting the scene information and the crowds information. Second, the central server periodically performs the global potential field information aggregation and integrates these information to plan the optimal global path dynamically for crowd evacuation. Finally, we implemente a simulation platform to simulate the process of crowd movement and visualize the dynamic change of the potential energy field. Experimental results prove that the proposed method can provide privacy-preserving path planning for multi-camera evacuation scenarios. © 2022 IEEE.

In transiting from one civilization to another, technology has played a vital and positive role. In the 21st century, one of the digital developments that is paving ways for human life improvement is machine-assisted technology using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Artificial Intelligence has successfully enhanced man's capacity in solving complex problems and processes. However, as developed nations continue to reap from the adoption of AI in various fields of human endeavors, the continent of Africa has remained behind, especially in AI-based skills and research. Various governments in developing nations have encouraged the adoption of AI, especially in institutions of learning. However, theoretical adoption without practical experience has remained an ineffective way of bridging the digital divide. In this paper we present the outcome of a practical approach to bridging the AI divide among students and researchers in Africa through funding support from the Google TensorFlow College Outreach Award. A 3-day hybrid bootcamp was organized (11th to 13th December, 2023) using the Google funding in order to equip postgraduate students and researchers with AI and collaborative research skills. A pre-survey method was employed to ascertain the knowledge level of the bootcamp participants. From the pre-surveyed feedback, training sessions on various AI domains were presented, and participant equipped with practical AI skills using a deployed AI-based cloud programming platform running on the private Federated Genomic Cloud (FEDGEN) infrastructure at Covenant University. A post-survey feedback was used to ascertain the effectiveness of this approach. A comparative analysis of the pre-survey and post-survey reveals a 70% improvement of AI skills among participants. This shows that having continuous training session for students and researchers is an effective method in closing the AI skills gap between developed and developing nations. © 2024 IEEE.

Rapid proliferation of aberrant neurons in brain tumors significantly damages organ function or causes death, endangering adult health. These tumors vary widely in terms of their locations, sizes, and textures. Finding malignant tumors requires the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). However, physically diagnosing brain tumors is a timeconsuming and potentially unpredictable technique. Cropping and resizing to fixed dimensions ensures consistency before submitting brain MRI images for analysis using deep learning models such as modified ResNet-50. This study uses the modified ResNet-50 model, a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) renowned for its accuracy and resilience in image recognition tasks, to provide an efficient method for brain tumor diagnosis. Initially trained on Image Net, the modified ResNet-50 model further improved using transfer learning on many annotated brain MRI scan datasets. By adding variation to the dataset, data augmentation makes the model more robust and helps it to generalize. Deeper networks are trained without sacrificing performance to the model's architecture, which addresses the vanishing gradient problem. This work classification model implemented using Python software, which facilitated the development, training, and evaluation processes, allowing for an analysis of their performance. The optimized model outperformed conventional Machine Learning (ML) techniques, demonstrating over 94% accuracy in tumor identification and classification tests. With the potential to enhance patient outcomes and diagnostic efficiency, the integration of modified ResNet-50 in brain tumor identification offers a significant development towards accurate and dependable automated diagnostic systems. The accuracy of the modified Resnet-50 is 94%, and the specificity comparison of the modified ResNet-50 is 93.5%, respectively.

Domain generalization methods aim to learn transferable knowledge from source domains that can generalize well to unseen target domains. Recent studies show that neural networks frequently suffer from a simplicity-biased learning behavior which leads to over-reliance on specific frequency sets, namely as frequency shortcuts, instead of semantic information, resulting in poor generalization performance. Despite previous data augmentation techniques successfully enhancing generalization performances, they intend to apply more frequency shortcuts, thereby causing hallucinations of generalization improvement. In this paper, we aim to prevent such learning behavior of applying frequency shortcuts from a data-driven perspective. Given the theoretical justification of models' biased learning behavior on different spatial frequency components, which is based on the dataset frequency properties, we argue that the learning behavior on various frequency components could be manipulated by changing the dataset statistical structure in the Fourier domain. Intuitively, as frequency shortcuts are hidden in the dominant and highly dependent frequencies of dataset structure, dynamically perturbating the over-reliance frequency components could prevent the application of frequency shortcuts. To this end, we propose two effective data augmentation modules designed to collaboratively and adaptively adjust the frequency characteristic of the dataset, aiming to dynamically influence the learning behavior of the model and ultimately serving as a strategy to mitigate shortcut learning. With the rapid development of document digitization, people have become accustomed to capturing and processing documents using electronic devices such as smartphones. However, the captured document images often suffer from issues like shadows and noise due to environmental factors, which can affect their readability. To improve the quality of captured document images, researchers have proposed a series of models or frameworks and applied them in distinct scenarios such as image enhancement, and document information extraction. In this paper, we primarily focus on shadow removal methods and open-source datasets. We concentrate on recent advancements in this area, first organizing and analyzing nine available datasets. Then, the methods are categorized into conventional methods and neural network-based methods. Conventional methods use manually designed features and include shadow map-based approaches and illumination-based approaches. Neural network-based methods automatically generate features from data and are divided into single-stage approaches and multi-stage approaches. We detail representative algorithms and briefly describe some typical techniques. Finally, we analyze and discuss experimental results, identifying the limitations of datasets and methods. Future research directions are discussed, and nine suggestions for shadow removal from document images are proposed. To our knowledge, this is the first survey of shadow removal methods and related datasets from document images.

Decomposition offers the potential to reduce the complexity of model-based optimization, prediction, control and diagnosis by accounting for the structure and sparsity of the describing model. Motivated by this fact, a rich and powerful collection of decomposition methods are available for model based diagnosis of large-scale complex dynamic systems, too. At the same time, one usually does not have enough information about a large-scale complex dynamic system to construct its precise enough model, so a kind of qualitative dynamic model is often used for the diagnosis [1]. Two structural decomposition based qualitative diagnostic methods are presented in this lecture, together with their component-driven system decomposition ***, a model-based diagnostic method is described that is able to detect and isolate non-technical losses (illegal loads) in low voltage electrical grids of one transformer area [2]. As a preliminary off-line step of the diagnosis, a powerful electrical decomposition method is proposed, which breaks down the overall network to subsystems with one feeder layout enabling to make the necessary computations efficient. The diagnostic method is based on analyzing the differences between the measured and model-predicted voltages. The uncertainty in the model parameters together with the measurement uncertainties are also taken into account to make the approach applicable in real-world cases. The proposed method is able to detect and localize multiple illegal loads, and the amount of the illegal consumption can also be *** a second case study, a high level decomposition approach for process system fault diagnosis using event traces is given [3], [4]. Using a simple component graph model behind the process system and the measured trace applied for the diagnosis, the method can find the root cause(s) of propagating failures between separate components.
