Cross-lingual word alignment plays a crucial role in various natural language processing tasks, particularly for low-resource languages. Recent study proposes a BiLSTM-based encoder-decoder model that outperforms pre-trained language models in low-resource settings. However, their model only considers the similarity of word embedding spaces and does not explicitly model the differences between word embeddings. To address this limitation, we propose incorporating contrastive learning into the BiLSTM-based encoder-decoder framework. Our approach introduces a multi-view negative sampling strategy to learn the differences between word pairs in the shared cross-lingual embedding space. We evaluate our model on five bilingual aligned datasets spanning four ASEAN languages: Lao, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. Experimental results demonstrate that integrating contrastive learning consistently improves word alignment accuracy across all datasets, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed method in low-resource scenarios. We will release our data set and code to support future research on ASEAN or more low-resource word alignment.

DasAtom: A Divide-and-Shuttle Atom Approach to Quantum Circuit Transformation

Neutral atom (NA) quantum systems are emerging as a leading platform for quantum computation, offering superior or competitive qubit count and gate fidelity compared to superconducting circuits and ion traps. However, the unique features of NA devices, such as long-range interactions, long qubit coherence time, and the ability to physically move qubits, present distinct challenges for quantum circuit compilation. In this paper, we introduce DasAtom, a novel divide-and-shuttle atom approach designed to optimise quantum circuit transformation for NA devices by leveraging these capabilities. DasAtom partitions circuits into subcircuits, each associated with a qubit mapping that allows all gates within the subcircuit to be directly executed. The algorithm then shuttles atoms to transition seamlessly from one mapping to the next, enhancing both execution efficiency and overall fidelity. For a 30-qubit Quantum Fourier Transform (QFT), DasAtom achieves a 415.8x improvement in fidelity over the move-based algorithm Enola and a 10.6x improvement over the SWAP-based algorithm Tetris. Notably, this improvement is expected to increase exponentially with the number of qubits, positioning DasAtom as a highly promising solution for scaling quantum computation on NA platforms. © 2024, CC BY.

Wireless federated learning (FL) is a collaborative machine learning (ML) framework in which wireless client-devices independently train their ML models and send the locally trained models to the FL server for aggregation. In this paper, we consider the coexistence of privacy-sensitive client-devices and privacy-insensitive yet computing-resource constrained client-devices, and propose an FL framework with a hybrid centralized training and local training. Specifically, the privacy-sensitive client-devices perform local ML model training and send their local models to the FL server. Each privacy-insensitive client-device can have two options, i.e., (i) conducting a local training and then sending its local model to the FL server, and (ii) directly sending its local data to the FL server for the centralized training. The FL server, after collecting the data from the privacy-insensitive client-devices (which choose to upload the local data), conducts a centralized training with the received datasets. The global model is then generated by aggregating (i) the local models uploaded by the client-devices and (ii) the model trained by the FL server centrally. Focusing on this hybrid FL framework, we firstly analyze its convergence feature with respect to the client-devices' selections of local training or centralized training. We then formulate a joint optimization of client-devices' selections of the local training or centralized training, the FL training configuration (i.e., the number of the local iterations and the number of the global iterations), and the bandwidth allocations to the client-devices, with the objective of minimizing the overall latency for reaching the FL convergence. Despite the non-convexity of the joint optimization problem, we identify its layered structure and propose an efficient algorithm to solve it. Efficient and Long-Tailed Generalization for Pre-trained Vision-Language Model

Pre-trained vision-language models like CLIP have shown powerful zero-shot inference ability via image-text matching and prove to be strong few-shot learners in various downstream tasks. However, in real-world scenarios, adapting CLIP to downstream tasks may encounter the following challenges: 1) data may exhibit long-tailed data distributions and might not have abundant samples for all the classes;2) There might be emerging tasks with new classes that contain no samples at all. To overcome them, we propose a novel framework to achieve efficient and long-tailed generalization, which can be termed as Candle. During the training process, we propose compensating logit-adjusted loss to encourage large margins of prototypes and alleviate imbalance both within the base classes and between the base and new classes. For efficient adaptation, we treat the CLIP model as a black box and leverage the extracted features to obtain visual and textual prototypes for prediction. To make full use of multi-modal information, we also propose cross-modal attention to enrich the features from both modalities. For effective generalization, we introduce virtual prototypes for new classes to make up for their lack of training images. Candle achieves state-of-the-art performance over extensive experiments on 11 diverse datasets while substantially reducing the training time, demonstrating the superiority of our approach. The nonnegative matrix factorization algorithm is an effective data dimensionality reduction method. The principle is to convert the image into a nonnegative linear combination of low dimensional basis images. Nonnegative matrix factorization can be divided into linear algorithm and nonlinear algorithm. Because of different decomposition theory, linear NMF algorithms mainly extract first-order features of data, while nonlinear NMF algorithms mainly extract high-order features. Most of the current studies only focus on one of the models without combining the two together, which leads to the lack of data features. Therefore it is necessary to integrate the two types of algorithms for research. The paper proposes hybrid feature measurement based on linear and nonlinear nonnegative matrix factorization. The algorithm utilizes the idea of feature fusion. The basis image features of the two algorithms are mixed in the model. Finally a feature similarity measurement is obtained as the measure method. The proposed algorithm has good performance on the public datasets and effectively improves the recognition.

Device-to-Device (D2D) communications is one of the promising technologies for future fifth-generation cellular networks (5G). The first step to enable D2D communication is to discover neighbor devices and choose which will establish a D2D communication link. The limited battery life, discovery resources and the growing number of devices bind the current discovery protocols, so we need to find a new discovery protocol that goes with the next 5G cellular network. In this paper, we propose a new discovery protocol "MEC Discovery"based on Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) for D2D communication in 5G. The MEC server will discover neighbor devices for a User Equipment (UE) when requested and keep track of discovered devices in case other UEs ask for the same information with D2D mode in the near future. Our simulation results indicate a huge dropping in power consumption by the UE and reduced interferences caused by many devices doing discovery simultaneously in the same area. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to the rapid propagation characteristic of the Coronavirus(COVID-19)disease,manual diagnostic methods cannot handle the large number of infected individuals to prevent the spread of ***,new automated diagnostic methods have been brought on board,particularly methods based on artificial intelligence using different medical data such as X-ray *** imaging,for example,produces several image types that can be processed and analyzed by machine and deep learning methods.X-ray imaging materials widely exist in most hospitals and health institutes since they are affordable compared to other imaging *** this paper,we propose a novel Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)model(COV2Net)that can detect COVID-19 virus by analyzing the X-ray images of suspected *** model is trained on a dataset containing thousands of X-ray images collected from different *** model was tested and evaluated on an independent *** order to approve the performance of the proposed model,three CNN models namely Mobile-Net,Residential Energy Services Network(Res-Net),and Visual Geometry Group 16(VGG-16)have been implemented using transfer learning *** experiment consists of a multi-label classification task based on X-ray images for normal patients,patients infected by COVID-19 virus and other patients infected with *** proposed model is empowered with Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping(Grad-CAM)and Grad-Cam++techniques for a visual explanation and methodology debugging *** finding results show that the proposed model COV2Net outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.
