Processors for terrestrial applications are protected by Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field, so the probability of single event effects (SEE) is significantly lower. Shrinking of the technology nodes allows higher operational frequency and performance, but their susceptibility to SEE is increasing. Nowadays satellites and safety critical automotive applications require more and more computational power. The hardening by design has been implemented mainly by redundancy of the whole cores. The consequences are lower frequency, larger area, and higher power consumption. We propose a novel hardening technique, which enables high frequency operation and doesn't cause large power consumption and area overhead. The protection is based redundancy and separation of the pipeline into two main sections. It provides a fast detection of faults, simple recovery by flush of the pipeline, and allows a large prediction unit to be unprotected. The whole protection scheme can be implemented at the Register Transfer Level. We present the protection scheme at the core with RISC-V instruction set. Simulations confirm the protection can handle the injected faults. Synthesis shows, the protection lowers the maximum frequency by only about 4.7%. The area increase is only about 118% and can be even lower.

A comparative review for question answering frameworks on the linked data

Background: One of the state-of-the-art techniques for question answering frameworks is using linked data by converting the user input into SPARQL which is the query language for linked data. Objective: The main target is to emphasize the most fundamental issues while developing a question answering frameworks that accept input in natural language and converting it into SPARQL. Methods: The trend of applying linked data as a data source is gaining popularity among the re-searchers. In this study, question answering frameworks that combine both natural language processing techniques and linked data technologies are examined. Common principles of examined question answering frameworks recognize user intention, enriching natural language input and converting it to a SPARQL query. Results: 9 studies are selected for further examination to be compared by using selection criteria de-fined in the research methodology. Conclusion: Resulting outcomes are represented and compared in detail. In addition to the comparative review of systems, a general architecture of question answering frameworks on the linked data is drawn as an outcome of this study to provide a guideline for the researchers who are studying related research fields. © 2021 Bentham Science Publishers.

Traditional LiDAR SLAM approaches prioritize localization over mapping, yet high-precision dense maps are essential for numerous applications involving intelligent agents. Recent advancements have introduced methods leveraging neural fields to enhance mapping capabilities;however, these approaches still face several limitations. Firstly, concerning scene representation, they typically employ neural fields with high-dimensional features and multi-layer perceptron decoders utilizing non-continuous activation functions. This results in low learning efficiency and challenges in capturing high-frequency signals. Secondly, in terms of scene organization, these methods often treat the entire scene as a singular neural field, leading to inefficiencies, inflexibility, and difficulties in rectifying accumulated errors when mapping large-scale environments over extended periods. To tackle the first issue, we propose a lightweight continuous SDF regression approach by encoding the scene in single-valued embeddings and decoding SDF values from a Kolmogorov-Arnold Network. By minimizing discrepancies in measuring range, sampling distance, and decoded SDF values, we facilitate iterative frame-to-model tracking and bundle adjustment neural mapping. To mitigate the second challenge, we propose structuring the whole scene into multiple neural SDF submaps. By establishing node-node, node-submap, and loop closure constraints into a global pose graph, the system can create dense neural maps with global consistency across large-scale scenes. Experimental evaluations in both real-world and simulated settings indicate that our system achieves superior mapping completeness and accuracy, enhanced learning efficiency, reduced memory consumption, and greater flexibility compared to its counterparts. © 2025 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a novel hardening technique against Single Event Effects, which enables high-frequency operation and does not cause large power consumption and area overhead. It provides fast detection of faults, simple recovery by a flush of the pipeline, and allows a large prediction unit to be unprotected. Synthesis shows that protection lowers the maximum frequency by only 3.9%. The area increase is only 108% and can be even lower. Total power consumption increased by 119%.

Security by design (SbD) is a concept for developing and maintaining systems that are, to the greatest extent possible, free from security vulnerabilities and impervious to security attacks. In addition to technical aspects, such as how to develop a robust Industrial control system (ICS), hardware (HW), software (SW), firmware, communication product, etc., SbD also includes soft aspects, such as organizational management's attitude and behavior, and employee awareness. Under the SbD concept, systems, i.e., in our context ICS, will be considered more trustworthy by users;users' trust in the systems will be derived from meticulous adherence to SbD processes and policies. In accordance with the SbD concept, security is considered. Security measures are implemented, at every stage of the product and system development lifecycle, rather than afterward, which is beneficial, enabling the identification of vulnerabilities early in the development process;when vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage, the ability to address them is improved, and the cost of resolving them is reduced, saving time, money, and effort. As mentioned above, the SbD approach focuses on making systems as secure and immune to attack as possible through the use of measures such as continuous testing, authentication, safeguards, and adherence to best programming practices. As such, SbD enables an organization to formalize the design of its infrastructure and applications and build and integrate security into its IT and OT processes. This document presents the security requirements for the implementation of SbD in industrial control systems. The information presented does not negate any existing security and cyber security standards, quality assurance standards, best practices, or management methods such as COBIT. DEGSTalk: Decomposed Per-Embedding Gaussian Fields for Hair-Preserving Talking Face Synthesis

Accurately synthesizing talking face videos and capturing fine facial features for individuals with long hair presents a significant challenge. To tackle these challenges in existing methods, we propose a decomposed per-embedding Gaussian fields (DEGSTalk), a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-based talking face synthesis method for generating realistic talking faces with long hairs. Our DEGSTalk employs Deformable Pre-Embedding Gaussian Fields, which dynamically adjust pre-embedding Gaussian primitives using implicit expression coefficients. This enables precise capture of dynamic facial regions and subtle expressions. Additionally, we propose a Dynamic Hair-Preserving Portrait Rendering technique to enhance the realism of long hair motions in the synthesized videos. Results show that DEGSTalk achieves improved realism and synthesis quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex facial dynamics and hair preservation. INNSE: Invertible neural network-based DNA image storage with self-correction encoding

DNA storage has become an alternative to silicon-based storage of media. However, when used to store multimodal data such as images, it fails to take full advantage of the characteristics of high correlation and variability present in such data, and currently remains inferior in terms of encoding density and time complexity. It also has the shortcoming of weak performance in terms of error correction methods to address insertion and deletion errors caused by error crosstalk. Therefore, we proposed an invertible neural network-based DNA image storage self-correction encoding method (INNSE) that uses the invertibility of network to perform up-down sampling processing on image and video data, thereby greatly reducing the number of DNA sequences required for data storage. A codebook generator was then designed to encode low-dimensional vectors into DNA sequences that meet various constraints. Finally, a self-correction method was constructed to achieve DNA sequence error correction at the base level without adding any redundant information. Our experimental results showed that, compared to the Yin-Yang algorithm, the encoding density of INNSE was increased by 3×, encoding time complexity was reduced by 95.26%. Under a simulated error rate of 2%, PSNR and SSIM were raised by 80.88% and 63.82%, respectively, proving that INNSE has significant advantages in encoding performance and error correction ability. © 2025

The design of manufacturing systems requires exploring diverse component configurations for one that best satisfies the requirements of the target system. At the same time, manufacturing systems evolve continuously, increasing their complexity and that of the production line in which they are installed. Model-based System engineering (MBSE) methodologies and modeling languages like System Modeling Language (SysML) are used to assist system engineers during the entire design process. Yet, MBSE methodologies mainly rely on manually composed models for requirements verification, incurring enormous cost and effort especially in larger, more complex systems. This paper proposes a methodology exploiting the knowledge enclosed in a SysML model to automate the execution of a set of analyses defined over the represented manufacturing system. The proposed approach relies on Lingua Franca (LF) to simulate the specified analysis and analyze the results. Moreover, the methodology supports chains of analyses to represent dependent requirements and tradeoffs imposed upon a manufacturing system. The proposed methodology has been evaluated on a manufacturing system demonstrator. Results show the proposed methodology's applicability and scalability on diverse configurations of the manufacturing system.

Short linewidth light lasers are essential for a wide range of applications, including quantum computing, spectroscopy, and sensing. Stimulated Brillouin scattering is an intriguing method for achieving extremely coherent light laser output. The demonstration of an unstable pulsed Brillouin erbium fiber laser (BFL) operating at kHz is shown here. The BFL works at 1550.1 nm, which is 0.09 nm higher than the Brillouin pump wavelength since the dispersion compensating fiber was pumped over the 24.77 mW threshold. It has an extreme power of 0.7 dBm, a side-mode suppression ratio of 29 dB, and a pump power of 59.12 mW at 980 nm. Due to the intrinsic instability in relaxation oscillation, which generates the nonlinear self-pulsing mechanism in the BEFL cavity, the BEFL produced a pulse train running at 200.9 kHz with a 24.77 mW pump. The pulse frequency was raised to 3.02 MHz. The pump power has been increased to 59.12 mW. Yet, as the pump power was raised further, more than one pulse was produced. This is the first example of generating kHz pulses in a BFL cavity. The laser system is straightforward, small, and all-fiber. These are the attempts of experimental work to realize the BFL with Q-switched multi-wavelength output using a specific length of DCF to generate the pulses. © 2023 IEEE.
