Short linewidth light lasers are essential for a wide range of applications, including quantum computing, spectroscopy, and sensing. Stimulated Brillouin scattering is an intriguing method for achieving extremely coherent light laser output. The demonstration of an unstable pulsed Brillouin erbium fiber laser (BFL) operating at kHz is shown here. The BFL works at 1550.1 nm, which is 0.09 nm higher than the Brillouin pump wavelength since the dispersion compensating fiber was pumped over the 24.77 mW threshold. It has an extreme power of 0.7 dBm, a side-mode suppression ratio of 29 dB, and a pump power of 59.12 mW at 980 nm. Due to the intrinsic instability in relaxation oscillation, which generates the nonlinear self-pulsing mechanism in the BEFL cavity, the BEFL produced a pulse train running at 200.9 kHz with a 24.77 mW pump. The pulse frequency was raised to 3.02 MHz. The pump power has been increased to 59.12 mW. Yet, as the pump power was raised further, more than one pulse was produced. This is the first example of generating kHz pulses in a BFL cavity. The laser system is straightforward, small, and all-fiber. These are the attempts of experimental work to realize the BFL with Q-switched multi-wavelength output using a specific length of DCF to generate the pulses. © 2023 IEEE.

Medical errors contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality, emphasizing the critical role of Clinical Guidelines (GLs) in patient care. Automating GL application can enhance GL adherence, improve patient outcomes, and reduce costs. However, several barriers exist to GL implementation and real-time automated support. Challenges include creating a formalized, machine-comprehensible GL representation, and an episodic decision-support system for sporadic treatment advice. This system must accommodate the non-continuous nature of care delivery, including partial actions or partially met treatment goals. We describe the design and implementation of an episodic GL-based clinical decision support system and its retrospective technical evaluation using patient records from a geriatric center. Initial evaluation scores of the e-Picard system were promising, with a mean 94% correctness and 90% completeness based on 50 random pressure ulcer patients. Errors were mainly due to knowledge specification, algorithmic issues, and missing data. Post-corrections, scores improved to 100% correctness and a mean 97% completeness, with missing data still affecting completeness. The results validate the system's capability to assess guideline adherence and provide quality recommendations. Despite initial limitations, we have demonstrated the feasibility of providing, through the e-Picard episodic algorithm, realistic medical decision-making support for noncontinuous, intermittent consultations. © 2024 The Authors.

DEGSTalk: Decomposed Per-Embedding Gaussian Fields for Hair-Preserving Talking Face Synthesis

Accurately synthesizing talking face videos and capturing fine facial features for individuals with long hair presents a significant challenge. To tackle these challenges in existing methods, we propose a decomposed per-embedding Gaussian fields (DEGSTalk), a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-based talking face synthesis method for generating realistic talking faces with long hairs. Our DEGSTalk employs Deformable Pre-Embedding Gaussian Fields, which dynamically adjust pre-embedding Gaussian primitives using implicit expression coefficients. This enables precise capture of dynamic facial regions and subtle expressions. Additionally, we propose a Dynamic Hair-Preserving Portrait Rendering technique to enhance the realism of long hair motions in the synthesized videos. Results show that DEGSTalk achieves improved realism and synthesis quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex facial dynamics and hair preservation. Security by design (SbD) is a concept for developing and maintaining systems that are, to the greatest extent possible, free from security vulnerabilities and impervious to security attacks. In addition to technical aspects, such as how to develop a robust Industrial control system (ICS), hardware (HW), software (SW), firmware, communication product, etc., SbD also includes soft aspects, such as organizational management's attitude and behavior, and employee awareness. Under the SbD concept, systems, i.e., in our context ICS, will be considered more trustworthy by users;users' trust in the systems will be derived from meticulous adherence to SbD processes and policies. In accordance with the SbD concept, security is considered. Security measures are implemented, at every stage of the product and system development lifecycle, rather than afterward, which is beneficial, enabling the identification of vulnerabilities early in the development process;when vulnerabilities are identified at an early stage, the ability to address them is improved, and the cost of resolving them is reduced, saving time, money, and effort. As mentioned above, the SbD approach focuses on making systems as secure and immune to attack as possible through the use of measures such as continuous testing, authentication, safeguards, and adherence to best programming practices. As such, SbD enables an organization to formalize the design of its infrastructure and applications and build and integrate security into its IT and OT processes. This document presents the security requirements for the implementation of SbD in industrial control systems. The information presented does not negate any existing security and cyber security standards, quality assurance standards, best practices, or management methods such as COBIT. INNSE: Invertible neural network-based DNA image storage with self-correction encoding

DNA storage has become an alternative to silicon-based storage of media. However, when used to store multimodal data such as images, it fails to take full advantage of the characteristics of high correlation and variability present in such data, and currently remains inferior in terms of encoding density and time complexity. It also has the shortcoming of weak performance in terms of error correction methods to address insertion and deletion errors caused by error crosstalk. Therefore, we proposed an invertible neural network-based DNA image storage self-correction encoding method (INNSE) that uses the invertibility of network to perform up-down sampling processing on image and video data, thereby greatly reducing the number of DNA sequences required for data storage. A codebook generator was then designed to encode low-dimensional vectors into DNA sequences that meet various constraints. Finally, a self-correction method was constructed to achieve DNA sequence error correction at the base level without adding any redundant information. Our experimental results showed that, compared to the Yin-Yang algorithm, the encoding density of INNSE was increased by 3×, encoding time complexity was reduced by 95.26%. Under a simulated error rate of 2%, PSNR and SSIM were raised by 80.88% and 63.82%, respectively, proving that INNSE has significant advantages in encoding performance and error correction ability. © 2025

The design of manufacturing systems requires exploring diverse component configurations for one that best satisfies the requirements of the target system. At the same time, manufacturing systems evolve continuously, increasing their complexity and that of the production line in which they are installed. Model-based System engineering (MBSE) methodologies and modeling languages like System Modeling Language (SysML) are used to assist system engineers during the entire design process. Yet, MBSE methodologies mainly rely on manually composed models for requirements verification, incurring enormous cost and effort especially in larger, more complex systems. This paper proposes a methodology exploiting the knowledge enclosed in a SysML model to automate the execution of a set of analyses defined over the represented manufacturing system. The proposed approach relies on Lingua Franca (LF) to simulate the specified analysis and analyze the results. Moreover, the methodology supports chains of analyses to represent dependent requirements and tradeoffs imposed upon a manufacturing system. The proposed methodology has been evaluated on a manufacturing system demonstrator. Results show the proposed methodology's applicability and scalability on diverse configurations of the manufacturing system.

Applying evidence-based medicine prevents medical errors highlighting the need for applying Clinical Guidelines (CGs) to improve patient care by nurses. However, nurses often face challenges in utilizing CGs due to patient-specific needs. Developing a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) can provide real-time context-sensitive CG-based recommendations. Therefore, there is a need to acquire and represent CGs in a machine-applicable manner. Also, there is a need to be able to provide recommendations episodically, only when requested, and not continuously, and to assess previous partial performance of evidence-based actions on a continuous scale. This study evaluated the feasibility of acquiring and representing major nursing CGs, in a machine-applicable manner for episodic use. Using data from an Israeli geriatric center, the results suggest that an episodic CDSS effectively supports the application of formalized nursing knowledge. © 2024 The Authors.

While significant progress has been made in multi-modal learning driven by large-scale image-text datasets, there is still a noticeable gap in the availability of such datasets within the facial domain. To facilitate and advance the field of facial representation learning, we present FLIP-80M, a large-scale visual-linguistic dataset comprising over 80 million face images paired with text descriptions. FLIP-80M is constructed by leveraging the large openly available image-text-pair dataset LAION-5B and a mixed-method approach to filter face-related pairs from both visual and linguistic perspectives. Our curation process involves face detection, face caption classification, text de-noising, and synthesis-based image augmentation. As a result, FLIP-80M stands as the largest face-text dataset to date. To evaluate the potential of our dataset, we fine-tune the CLIP model using the proposed FLIP-80M, to create FLIP (Facial Language-Image Pretraining) and assess its representation capabilities across various downstream tasks. Our experiments demonstrate that our FLIP model achieves state-of-the-art results in a range of face analysis tasks, including face parsing, face alignment, and face attribute classification. As virtual experiences grow in popularity, the demand for realistic, personalized, and animatable human avatars increases. Traditional methods, relying on fixed templates, often produce costly avatars that lack expressiveness and realism. To overcome these challenges, we introduce Controllable Avatars generation via disentangled invertible networks (CtrlAvatar), a real-time framework for generating lifelike and customizable avatars. CtrlAvatar uses disentangled invertible networks to separate the deformation process into implicit body geometry and explicit texture components. This approach eliminates the need for repeated occupancy reconstruction, enabling detailed and coherent animations. The body geometry component ensures anatomical accuracy, while the texture component allows for complex, artifact-free clothing customization. This architecture ensures smooth integration between body movements and surface details. By optimizing transformations with position-varying offsets from the avatar’s initial Linear Blend Skinning vertices, CtrlAvatar achieves flexible, natural deformations that adapt to various scenarios. Extensive experiments show that CtrlAvatar outperforms other methods in quality, diversity, controllability, and cost-efficiency, marking a significant advancement in avatar generation. In a multi-cloud storage system, provenance data records all operations and ownership during its lifecycle, which is critical for data security and audibility. However, recording provenance data also poses some challenging security and storage issues. In this paper, we present a secure and efficient multi-cloud storage data source scheme, BMDP. We use blockchain technology to ensure the secure storage of provenance data and design a smart contract to utilize the provenance data to ensure the proper operation of the multi-cloud storage system. Finally, we analyze the scheme's safety and do simulation experiments to show that the scheme has practicality. © 2023 IEEE.
