Background: Hearing loss affects access to spoken language, which can affect cognition and development, and can negatively affect social wellbeing. We present updated estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study on the prevalence of hearing loss in 2019, as well as the condition's associated disability. Methods: We did systematic reviews of population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019. We fitted nested meta-regression models for severity-specific prevalence, accounting for hearing aid coverage, cause, and the presence of tinnitus. We also forecasted the prevalence of hearing loss until 2050. Findings: An estimated 1·57 billion (95% uncertainty interval 1·51–1·64) people globally had hearing loss in 2019, accounting for one in five people (20·3% [19·5–21·1]). Of these, 403·3 million (357·3–449·5) people had hearing loss that was moderate or higher in severity after adjusting for hearing aid use, and 430·4 million (381·7–479·6) without adjustment. The largest number of people with moderate-to-complete hearing loss resided in the Western Pacific region (127·1 million people [112·3–142·6]). Of all people with a hearing impairment, 62·1% (60·2–63·9) were older than 50 years. The Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index explained 65·8% of the variation in national age-standardised rates of years lived with disability, because countries with a low HAQ Index had higher rates of years lived with disability. By 2050, a projected 2·45 billion (2·35–2·56) people will have hearing loss, a 56·1% (47·3–65·2) increase from 2019, despite stable age-standardised prevalence. Interpretation: As populations age, the number of people with hearing loss will increase. Interventions such as childhood screening, hearing aids, effective management of otitis media and meningitis, and cochlear implants have the potential to ameliorate this burden. Distributed animation rendering systems are used to speed up of rendering i.e the computational-intensive phase of producing animation. How to develop softwares with high availability and efficiency is a hot topic in distributed animation rendering systems. In this paper, based on model checking method for system modeling, three modules(i.e. rendering management server, rendering nodes and storage system) are modeled and analyzed. Firstly, by analyzing the system's typical infrastructure, messages-driven finite state machines of such three modules are studied. Then, the properties of such three modules are described using CTL(Computational Tree Logic). Furthermore, safety and livenesses are verified with SMV(Symbolic Model Verification). The methodology of this paper offers important theoretical guide to software development.

Characteristic modeling and the adaptive control design based on it have attracted increasing attention from the research community due to their many successful practical applications that have been reported. This paper presents a Matlab simulation platform that has been developed to facilitate the study of characteristic model based adaptive control systems. The simulation platform consists of two interweaving components: for a given continuous-time linear time-invariant plant, represented by a transfer function, and a specified sampling period, the simulation platform calculates a discretized model of the plant, and the corresponding characteristic model, and with a specified set of initial conditions of the characteristic model and its coefficients, along with the specified duration of simulation and reference input, the simulation platform will adaptively tune the coefficients of the characteristic model and calculate the outputs of the plant and the characteristic model. All the data needed for the simulation will be entered through a graphic user interface, which also plots the evolution of the outputs of the plant and the characteristic model as well as the evolution of the coefficients of the characteristic model. The simulation results can also be saved for off line plotting and analysis through the graphic user interface.

This paper presents an hybrid algorithm based on genetic algorithm and ant colony optimization for continuous optimization,which combines the global exploration ability of the former with the local exploiting ability of the *** proposed algorithm is evaluated on several benchmark *** simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs quite well and outperforms classical ant colony optimization and genetic algorithm for continuous optimization,which efficiently balances two contradictory aspects of its performance: exploration and exploitation.

Usage based insurance (UBI) for vehicles, or sometimes pay-how-you-drive (PHYD) as it is usually called, which fuses information and telecommunication technologies, can not only enhance the accuracy of underwriting, solve the severe homogeneity problem in vehicle insurance products for insurance companies, but can eliminate the cross-subsidies from vehicles of low risk to those of higher risk, as well. However, till now, researches of driving style evaluation method are mainly for fuel consumption control or to analyze road traffic conditions. It is hard to find reports on dedicated methods for UBI premium actuary purposes. Consider that China is a country which has a huge territory with different city landforms and traffic situations. There is an urgent requirement to establish a theory structure based on UBI implementations, and to establish a theory system for autonomous driving style evaluation methods. In this paper, a novel set of risk evaluation index systems of driving style for the UBI based differentiated commercial vehicle insurance for cities on the plains in China has been proposed. d via a real vehicle driving example analysis, the objectiveness and effectiveness the proposed dynamic driving evaluation index system has been proved. © ASCE.

Towards the problem of low rate of partial discharge (PD) recognition caused by lack of effective train samples, Fisher discriminant method is applied to improve recognition rate of PD for transformer. The discharge data produced by four PD models is collected, from which forty-four statistical characteristics are extracted. In order to solve the problem of singular matrix due to the high dimension, an effective dimension-reduced strategy is put forward. Forty-four characteristics are divided into seven low-dimensional subgroups, which become the input data for seven classifiers constructed by Fisher discriminant method. The PD type of the test samples is identified as that voted by results of seven classifiers. Results show that, in contrast to the back-propagation network method, the proposed method is more stable and possesses higher recognition rate under the condition of limited training samples, thus with good practical values.

This paper discusses the regional pole placement problem for Markovian jump system, and the corresponding application on wind turbine generator system (WTGS). Through sampling the low-frequency wind speed datas into separate intervals, the dynamic process of WTGS can be modelled into Markovian jump system. The traditional operating points of wind turbine are divided into separate subregions correspondingly, where the model parameters and the control mode can be fixed in each mode. However, the control designed for each operating subregion can not guarantee the whole dynamic response performance of WTGS, which is caused by the stochastic switchings between different system modes. Hence, the pole placement problem is discussed for linear Markovian jump systems, and applied on improving the dynamics response of WTGS.

An improved MPS algorithm for optimal scheduling of aircraft arrivals at congested airports

This paper presents an improved aircraft arrival sequencing and scheduling model, and designs a new efficient algorithm to optimize the arrival traffic flow at the Terminal Radar Approach control (TRACON) area. It has three steps: Firstly the aircrafts in same route are united into groups, then the position-matrix is created according to a series of ATC (Air Traffic control) constraints, finally the solution space tree is built to search the optimal sequence. The algorithm also take into account Max Position Shift (MPS) and wake vortex separations. Finally the algorithm is validated with practical data, the results shows the computing scale is small and the proportion of continuous landing aircrafts in final sequence is more in contrast to other algorithms, it is more convenient for the operation of controllers. © 2014 Binary Information Press

This paper provides a complete solution for the problem how to accurately compute the similarity between fuzzy sets with Gaussian membership functions, which is a fundamental issue for the identification and simplification of FNNs. It is shown that there are three different types of similarities between a pair of Gaussian membership functions dependent on the relative positioning between the given pair of membership functions, and the accurate and detailed computing formulas are given in each type. A simulation example is given to compare the proposed accurate similarity analysis method with the existing approximation approaches and to show how much more accuracy can be obtained than the approximation one in terms of absolute percentage approximation error.

The dynamics of heat exchanger is complex in terms of nonlinearity, timevarying, uncertainty, so extended Kalman filter (EKF) is utilized to diagnose the instrument faults existing in heat exchangers. EKF is employed to generate residuals for detecting sensor faults, and the residuals are then evaluated to isolate the location of faults using decision functions. Simulation results testify EKF based fault diagnosis method is suitable to identify sensor faults in heat exchangers. © 2015.
