The Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems use sensors to detect the daily behavior of older adults and provide necessary assistance based on changes in their cognitive status and physical functions, thus enabling older adults to maintain their independence at home. However, the effectiveness of the AAL systems depends on the accuracy of the data provided by sensors. Namely, when a human error or a hardware failure occurs, the activity recognition model can become inaccurate. This inaccuracy hinders the identification of critical and potentially life-threatening activities. Although there are many methods for cleaning sensor data, there is no method for binary sensors deployed in smart homes. By considering noisy sensor events and unintentional forgetting of turning off the device, this paper proposes two clustering-based methods for denoising and splitting binary sensor events to address possible inaccuracy due to the two mentioned problems. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by the experiments using four machine learning models and three real-world smart home datasets and adopting different sensor configurations. The experimental results demonstrate that compared to the original unprocessed datasets, by combining the two proposed methods, the average accuracy and F-measure are improved by 15.00% and 17.25%, respectively. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The development and evaluation of graph neural networks (GNNs) generally follow the independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) assumption. Yet this assumption is often untenable in practice due to the uncontrollable data generation mechanism. In particular, when the data distribution shows a significant shift, most GNNs would fail to produce reliable predictions and may even make decisions randomly. One of the most promising solutions to improve the model generalization is to pick out causal invariant parts in the input graph. Nonetheless, we observe a significant distribution gap between the causal parts learned by existing methods and the ground-truth, leading to undesirable performance. In response to the above issues, this paper presents GPro, a model that learns graph causal invariance with progressive inference. Specifically, the complicated graph causal invariant learning is decomposed into multiple intermediate inference steps from easy to hard, and the perception of GPro is continuously strengthened through a progressive inference process to extract causal features that are stable to distribution shifts. We also enlarge the training distribution by creating counterfactual samples to enhance the capability of the GPro in capturing the causal invariant parts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed GPro outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by 4.91% on average. In practical applications, high-quality labeled data is critical for short text classification. But in many cases, it is expensive and time-consuming to obtain labeled information. Semi-supervised short text classification is hence attracting more attention. However, due to the sparsity of short texts, the performance of existing short text classification models always needs to be improved. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a semi-supervised Short text classification method based on Dual-Channel data Augmentation called SDCA. More specifically, in order to solve the sparsity of short texts, this model first adopts the multi-stage word-level TCN (Temporal Convolutional Network)-based attention to enhanced semantic features and an one-dimensional convolution-based attention mechanism to augment the relevance of surrounding short texts. Secondly, the unlabeled data are augmented by word embedding weighted augmentation and word replacement augmentation, so that the model can make full use of the unlabeled short texts and further enhance the network training. Finally, extensive experiments conducted on four benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model on semi-supervised short text classification.

Digital transformation in manufacturing has become a trend with the continuous development of cloud computing and edge computing. The production process of firearms components is highly challenging and quality problems in the production process may directly affect the safety of people's lives and property. Thus, this paper proposes a production-quality early warning method for firearms components based on cloud-edge collaboration. Real-time early warning and rapid processing for abnormal conditions in the production process are realized based on cloud data analysis and edge intelligent prediction, thereby improving production efficiency and quality. The cloud edge collaboration framework is developed for cloud training of the long short-term memory models and real-time sample edge acquisition, enhancing the adaptability of quality early warning algorithms under specific conditions and the real-time quality of early warning for firearms components.

Emerging technologies in sixth generation (6G) of wireless communications, such as terahertz communication and ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output, present promising prospects. Despite the high data rate potential of millimeter wave communications, millimeter wave (mmWave) communications in urban low altitude economy (LAE) environments are constrained by challenges such as signal attenuation and multipath interference. Specially, in urban environments, mmWave communication experiences significant attenuation due to buildings, owing to its short wavelength, which necessitates developing innovative approaches to improve the robustness of such communications in LAE networking. In this paper, we explore the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-carried intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) to support low altitude mmWave communication. Specifically, we consider a typical urban low altitude communication scenario where a UAV-carried IRS establishes a line-of-sight (LoS) channel between the mobile users and a source user (SU) despite the presence of obstacles. Subsequently, we formulate an optimization problem aimed at maximizing the transmission rates and minimizing the energy consumption of the UAV by jointly optimizing phase shifts of the IRS and UAV trajectory. Given the non-convex nature of the problem and its high dynamics, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based approach incorporating neural episodic control, long short-term memory, and an IRS phase shift control method to enhance the stability and accelerate the convergence. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively resolves the problem and surpasses other benchmark algorithms in various performances. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. This paper presents a Scientific Literature Management Platform (SLMP, demo link 1 ) based on large language models (LLMs). The platform consists of four modules: literature management, literature extraction, literature retrieval, and question answering. The core techniques used to support the four modules across the platform include a fine-tuned model PaperExtractGPT and a continual pre-training model ChatPaperGPT based on ChatGLM 2 using the data from scientific research literature, responsible for information extraction and communication, respectively. Due to their powerful capabilities in natural language understanding and generation, LLMs can understand complex scientific concepts based on the provided contexts, and thus generate high-quality texts and conduct in-depth information retrieval and question answering. Our platform can help researchers manage and utilize literature more effectively and efficiently for finding relevant literature, obtaining required information, and generating new knowledge.

Smart Contract Vulnerability Detection Based on Semantic Graph and Residual Graph Convolutional Networks with Edge Attention

It is imperative to assure the security of smart contracts via intelligent vulnerability detection tools before deploying smart contracts on blockchains. The existing deep learning-based approaches fail to effectively capture the rich syntax and semantic information embedded in smart contracts. In this paper, we detect smart contract vulnerabilities at the function level by constructing a novel semantic graph (SG) for each function and learning the SGs using a new graph convolutional network EA-RGCN. Our proposed method consists of three stages. In the first stage, we create the SG which characterizes rich data-data, instruction-instruction and instruction-data relationships in the function code. In the second stage, we propose EA-RGCN which contains three parts: node and edge representation via word2vec, content feature extraction with a residual GCN (RGCN) module, and semantic feature extraction using an edge attention (EA) module. Finally, we concatenate the code content features and the semantic features to obtain the global code feature and use a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to identify whether the function is vulnerable. We conduct experiments on the dataset constructed from real-world smart contracts. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed semantic graph and the EA-RGCN model can achieve superior performance. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Event detection, an important research topic of information extraction, aims to automatically identify and classify event instances from the text. Previous studies have introduced methods combining syntactic information and graph convolutional networks into the field of event detection and verified their effectiveness. However, such methods often ignore the high-order information on the syntactic tree with noisy words, which limits their classification quality. In this paper, we propose a deep symmetric graph convolutional network to organically integrate high-order and low-order syntactic information to strengthen the semantic features of sentences. Specifically, we design a skip connection with attention gating mechanism, which selects valuable low-order syntactic information under the supervision of high-order syntactic information to strengthen the aggregation of high-order and low-order syntactic information. Then, a graph perturbation mechanism is proposed to discard noisy nodes on the syntactic graph to reduce the noisy information in the high-order syntactic information. We conducted extensive experiments on the widely used ACE 2005 benchmark, and the experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Assessing Extraneous and Intrinsic Cognitive Load in Space Teleoperated Tasks: A Physiological Metrics Study with Cognitive Load Theory

This study aimed to explore the relationship between physiological performance indicators and both intrinsic and extrinsic cognitive loads during a space robot grasping task, which involves teleoperation requiring high levels of spatial and motor coordination, attention, and decision-making. The hypothesis posited that operational mode would influence extrinsic cognitive load, while task difficulty would impact intrinsic cognitive load. Additionally, a correlation was expected between physiological performance indicators and cognitive load. To test this, a 2x2 factorial experiment was conducted with independent variables being task difficulty (high vs. low) and operational mode (joystick vs. keys), and dependent variables including cognitive load, performance, and learning outcomes. Subjective scales were used to assess intrinsic and extrinsic cognitive load, and physiological data were collected to examine their correlation with cognitive load. The results indicate that operational mode and task difficulty significantly affect cognitive load in space exploration contexts. Specifically, the 'Joystick' mode was associated with higher extrinsic cognitive load, likely due to the challenges it presents in precise control during complex tasks. Performance metrics showed that attention allocation varied by operational mode, with the 'Joystick' mode requiring greater focus on the side view and end-effector, in line with cognitive load theory. Physiological metrics, particularly pupil diameter and EEG data, were crucial in understanding these effects;a decrease in pupil diameter with increased task difficulty reflected heightened intrinsic cognitive load. EEG data further revealed significant variations in brain activity across frontal, prefrontal, and occipital regions, with distinct changes in alpha, theta, and beta frequency bands, highlighting the substantial impact of cognitive load on neural processes. Event Detection (ED) aims to recognize instances of specified types of event triggers in text. Existing graph neural network-based models have achieved promising progress to alleviate this problem by capturing different orders of syntactic information, but they are limited by two issues. First, the long-range syntactic information between words is not fully exploited. Second, they ignore the semantic information provided by dependency labels which provide linguistic knowledge that is useful to ED. As a result, we proposed a label-enhanced dense graph convolutional network that employs dense connectivity and Graph Transformer Networks (GTN) to learn a flexible selection of edge types and composite relations between the words. Each layer can make use of the collective knowledge of dense blocks in order to model syntactic dependencies over long distances through dense connectivity. The proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance for ED on common datasets after extensive experiments are conducted to show its advantages.
