Point cloud-based large scale place recognition is an important but challenging task for many applications such as Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). Taking the task as a point cloud retrieval problem, previous methods have made delightful achievements. However, how to deal with catastrophic collapse caused by rotation problems is still under-explored. In this paper, to tackle the issue, we propose a novel Point Cloud-based Rotation-aware Large Scale Place Recognition Network (RPR-Net). In particular, to solve the problem, we propose to learn rotation-invariant features in three steps. First, we design three kinds of novel Rotation-Invariant Features (RIFs), which are low-level features that can hold the rotation-invariant property. Second, using these RIFs, we design an attentive module to learn rotation-invariant kernels. Third, we apply these kernels to previous point cloud features to generate new features, which is the well-known SO(3) mapping process. By doing so, high-level scene-specific rotation-invariant features can be learned. We call the above process an Attentive Rotation-Invariant Convolution (ARIConv). To achieve the place recognition goal, we build RPR-Net, which takes ARIConv as a basic unit to construct a dense network architecture. Then, powerful global descriptors used for retrieval-based place recognition can be sufficiently extracted from RPR-Net. Experimental results on prevalent datasets show that our method achieves comparable results to existing state-of-the-art place recognition models and significantly outperforms other rotation-invariant baseline models when solving rotation problems. Vehicle re-identification (reID) aims at identifying vehicles across different non-overlapping cameras views. The existing methods heavily relied on well-labeled datasets for ideal performance, which inevitably causes fateful drop due to the severe domain bias between the training domain and the real-world scenes;worse still, these approaches required full annotations, which is labor-consuming. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel progressive adaptation learning method for vehicle reID, named PAL, which infers from the abundant data without annotations. For PAL, a data adaptation module is employed for source domain, which generates the images with similar data distribution to unlabeled target domain as "pseudo target samples". These pseudo samples are combined with the unlabeled samples that are selected by a dynamic sampling strategy to make training faster. We further proposed a weighted label smoothing (WLS) loss, which considers the similarity between samples with different clusters to balance the confidence of pseudo labels. Synthetic Instance Segmentation from Semantic Image Segmentation Masks

In recent years, instance segmentation has garnered significant attention across various applications. However, training a fully-supervised instance segmentation model requires costly both instance-level and pixel-level annotations. In contrast, weakly-supervised instance segmentation methods, such as those using image-level class labels or point labels, often struggle to satisfy the accuracy and recall requirements of practical scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel paradigm called Synthetic Instance Segmentation (SISeg). SISeg achieves instance segmentation results by leveraging image masks generated by existing semantic segmentation models, and it is highly efficient as we do not require additional training for semantic segmentation or the use of instance-level image annotations. In other words, the proposed model does not need extra manpower or higher computational expenses. Specifically, we first obtain a semantic segmentation mask of the input image via an existent semantic segmentation model. Then, we calculate a displacement field vector for each pixel based on the segmentation mask, which can indicate representations belonging to the same class but different instances, i.e., obtaining the instance-level object information. Finally, the instance segmentation results are refined by a learnable category-agnostic object boundary branch. Extensive experimental results on two challenging datasets highlight the effectiveness of SISeg in achieving competitive results when compared to state-of-the-art methods, especially fully-supervised methods. The current streaming feature structure learning needs to be improved in the processing of nonlinear continuous data and the dynamic acquisition of causal structures. In this paper, we propose a causal structure learning algorithm, CANSF, based on the streaming feature of additive noise models. We have made three contributions. First, by using the information carried by the noise of nonlinear continuous data, we propose a real correlation identification method based on logarithmic likelihood, which can identify the real correlation and redundant features of target features, and dynamically select parent and child nodes for each feature. Second, based on regression analysis, a method to determine the causal direction is proposed, which can be used for dynamic orientation. Third, a learning method of causal structure based on streaming features is proposed, which can obtain the Causal structure diagram directly and dynamically.

To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first to apply IoT technologies to transform the popular Mahjong game into a Digital Mahjong System (DMS) for digitally performing cognitive assessments. People have started exploring digital cognitive assessment tools for better objectivity and simplification. However, most of these tools are not friendly for older adults. This paper aims to address this issue by integrating IoT technologies with Mahjong to make cognitive assessment simpler and more engaging for older adults. DMS has the following features: 1) integrating motion tracking devices into Mahjong tiles and transferring them into Digital Mahjong Tiles (DMTs), which can precisely capture their moving trajectory during the assessment, 2) using a Near Field Communication reader to configure DMT’s primary data, 3) supporting Over-The-Air Device Firmware Update that can be done remotely via Bluetooth, and 4) developing a charging base that can charge 16 DMTs simultaneously using Qi wireless charging standard. With further testing, the DMS has the potential to become a digital platform to implement and test various cognitive assessment tools integrating Mahjong elements. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Lexical simplification has attracted much attention in many languages, which is the process of replacing complex words in a given sentence with simpler alternatives of equivalent meaning. Although the richness of vocabulary in Chinese makes the text very difficult to read for children and non-native speakers, there is no research work for the Chinese lexical simplification (CLS) task. To circumvent difficulties in acquiring annotations, we manually create the first benchmark dataset for CLS, which can be used for evaluating the lexical simplification systems automatically. To acquire a more thorough comparison, we present five different types of methods as baselines to generate substitute candidates for the complex word that includes synonym-based approach, word embedding-based approach, BERT-based approach, sememe-based approach, and a hybrid approach. Finally, we design the experimental evaluation of these baselines and discuss their advantages and disadvantages. To our best knowledge, this is the first study for CLS task. © 2014 IEEE.

DGA-Net: Dynamic gaussian attention network for sentence semantic matching

Sentence semantic matching requires an agent to determine the semantic relation between two sentences, where much recent progress has been made by advancement of representation learning techniques and inspiration of human behaviors. Among all these methods, attention mechanism plays an essential role by selecting important parts effectively. However, current attention methods either focus on all the important parts in a static way or only select one important part at one attention step dynamically, which leaves a large space for further improvement. To this end, in this paper, we design a novel Dynamic Gaussian Attention Network (DGA-Net) to combine the advantages of current static and dynamic attention methods. More specifically, we first leverage pre-trained language model to encode the input sentences and construct semantic representations from a global perspective. Then, we develop a Dynamic Gaussian Attention (DGA) to dynamically capture the important parts and corresponding local contexts from a detailed perspective. Finally, we combine the global information and detailed local information together to decide the semantic relation of sentences comprehensively and precisely. Extensive experiments on two popular sentence semantic matching tasks demonstrate that our proposed DGA-Net is effective in improving the ability of attention mechanism. © 2021, CC BY.

Exploring linguistic features and user engagement in Chinese online mental health counseling

With the popularity of online mental health platforms, more individuals are seeking help and receiving social support by openly discussing their problems. Therefore, it's crucial to gain a deeper understanding of which problem disclosures and social support on these platforms can attract more user attention and engagement. Previous research has primarily focused on social media forums. Our work concentrates on the professional mental health platform, intending to understand the linguistic features present in posts that promote user engagement and interaction. We employ text mining and deep learning techniques to analyze posts consisting of 22,250 questions from help-seekers and 78,328 answers providing social support extracted from the Chinese online mental health counseling platform. Initially, we analyze the high-frequency words and topics of the questions and answers to gain insights into the primary focal points and the range of topics covered in these posts. The results indicate that work-related issues are the most concerning and troublesome for help-seekers, and the topics that users follow are approximately 8 types, including growth, family, in-love, marriage, emotions, human-relations, behavioral-therapy and career. Subsequently, we analyze the language usage in question-and-answer posts with different engagement from three aspects: vocabulary categories, linguistic style matching, and language modeling, aiming to identify which linguistic features can attract more user attention and engagement. The results reveal that high-engagement answer posts exhibit a higher degree of linguistic style matching with the corresponding questions, and the use of vocabulary categories also influences the attention and engagement of the posts. By exploring the linguistic features and patterns displayed in posts with different levels of engagement on the professional online mental health platform, this study offers deep insights into user behavior and the factors that impact

Semimetal Contacts to Monolayer Semiconductor: Weak Metalization as an Effective Mechanism to Schottky Barrier Lowering

Recent experiment has uncovered semimetal bismuth (Bi) as an excellent electrical contact to monolayer MoS2 with ultralow contact resistance. The contact physics of the broader semimetal/monolayer-semiconductor family beyond Bi/MoS2, however, remains largely unexplored thus far. Here we perform a comprehensive first-principle density functional theory investigation on the electrical contact properties between six archetypal two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) semiconductors, i.e. MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, WSe2, MoTe2 and WTe2, and two representative types of semimetals, Bi and antimony (Sb). As Bi and Sb work functions energetically aligns well with the TMDC conduction band edge, Ohmic or nearly-Ohmic n-type contacts are prevalent. The interlayer distance of semimetal/TMDC contacts are significantly larger than that of the metal/TMDC counterparts, which results in only weak metalization of TMDC upon contact formation. Intriguingly, such weak metalization generates semimetal-induced gap states (MIGS) that extends below the conduction band minimum, thus offering an effective mechanism to reduce or eliminate the n-type Schottky barrier height (SBH) while still preserving the electronic structures of 2D TMDC. A modified Schottky-Mott rule that takes into account SMIGS, interface dipole potential, and Fermi level shifting is proposed, which provides an improved agreement with the DFT-simulated SBH. We further show that the tunneling-specific resistivity of Sb/TMDC contacts are generally lower than the Bi counterparts, thus indicating a better charge injection efficiency can be achieved through Sb contacts. Our findings reveal the promising potential of Bi and Sb as excellent companion electrode materials for advancing 2D semiconductor device technology. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. A data center is a cluster of servers, which is typically an organic collection of tens of thousands of servers. The sheer number of servers determines how well its performance is related to how it is interconnected. Just like the topology of Ethernet determines its network capacity and communication characteristics, the network structure of the data center has a great impact on its performance and capacity. The research object ExCCC-DCN in this paper has excellent node capacity, and its construction cost and operating energy consumption are relatively low, which is very suitable for deploying large-scale data centers. However, ExCCC-DCN is deployed on a wired link, and a large number of wired links can make maintenance and upgrade of the data center more difficult. Therefore, this paper utilizes the advantages of high transmission rate, strong anti-interference and high security of 60 GHz millimeter wave to wirelessly transform ExCCC-DCN, making it more flexible in the case of maintaining communication efficiency. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.
