Gland instance segmentation is an essential but challenging task in the diagnosis and treatment of adenocarcinoma. The existing models usually achieve gland instance segmentation through multi-task learning and boundary loss constraint. However, how to deal with the problems of gland adhesion and inaccurate boundary in segmenting the complex samples remains a challenge. In this work, we propose a displacement-field assisted graph energy transmitter (DFGET) framework to solve these problems. Specifically, a novel message passing manner based on anisotropic diffusion is developed to update the node features, which can distinguish the isomorphic graphs and improve the expressivity of graph nodes for complex samples. Using such graph framework, the gland semantic segmentation map and the displacement field (DF) of the graph nodes are estimated with two graph network branches. With the constraint of DF, a graph cluster module based on diffusion theory is presented to improve the intra-class feature consistency and inter-class feature discrepancy, as well as to separate the adherent glands from the semantic segmentation maps. Extensive comparison and ablation experiments on the GlaS dataset demonstrate the superiority of DFGET and effectiveness of the proposed anisotropic message passing manner and clustering method. Compared to the best comparative model, DFGET increases the object-Dice and object-F1 score by 2.5% and 3.4% respectively, while decreases the object-HD by 32.4%, achieving state-of-the-art performance. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Find Beauty in the Rare: Contrastive Composition Feature Clustering for Nontrivial Cropping Box Regression

Automatic image cropping algorithms aim to recompose images like human-being photographers by generating the cropping boxes with improved composition quality. Cropping box regression approaches learn the beauty of composition from annotated cropping boxes. However, the bias of annotations leads to quasi-trivial recomposing results, which has an obvious tendency to the average location of training samples. The crux of this predicament is that the task is naively treated as a box regression problem, where rare samples might be dominated by normal samples, and the composition patterns of rare samples are not well exploited. Observing that similar composition patterns tend to be shared by the cropping boundaries annotated nearly, we argue to find the beauty of composition from the rare samples by clustering the samples with similar cropping boundary annotations, i.e., similar composition patterns. We propose a novel Contrastive Composition Clustering (C2C) to regularize the composition features by contrasting dynamically established similar and dissimilar pairs. In this way, common composition patterns of multiple images can be better summarized, which especially benefits the rare samples and endows our model with better generalizability to render nontrivial results. Extensive experimental results show the superiority of our model compared with prior arts. We also illustrate the philosophy of our design with an interesting analytical visualization. In this paper, a new integrated scheme is proposed to accurately predict breast cancer, help doctors make early diagnosis and treatment plans, and improve the prognosis of patients. We selects five mainstream machine learning models: support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and adaptive boosting (AdaBoost). The Wisconsin Breast Cancer database (WBCD) and Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer (WDBC) are used as datasets to investigate the predictive performance of these single and ensemble models. Then, we use multiple linear regression method for feature selection (FS), the experimental results show that the change of feature subset will significantly affect the performance of the model. After that, we apply whale optimization algorithm (WOA) to optimize the hyperparameters of the model to improve their prediction performance. In addition, we ensemble these models by stacking, investigate the performance changes of the ensemble model when different models are used as meta learners. Finally, the FS-WOA-Stacking model achieves 99.56% accuracy on WBCD and 99.65% accuracy on WDBC. Compared with the existing breast cancer prediction models, the performance of the proposed model is at an excellent level. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) provides users with low-latency, highly responsive services by deploying Edge Servers (ESs) near applications. MEC allows any edge-hosted application or service to be migrated between different edge resource providers without being locked into a single provider. Nevertheless, due to its complexity and dynamics, the real edge computing environment is prone to errors and failures, reducing the reliability of edge service migration. This paper proposes a novel fault-tolerant method for redundant path service migration. The method utilizes sliding-window-based model and identifies a set of service migration paths, enabling the evaluation of the time-varying failure rate of ESs. The method combines resubmission and replication mechanisms and decides the edge service migration scheme by selecting multiple redundant migration paths. We also conduct extensive simulations and show that our proposed method outperforms traditional solutions in several metrics. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

AdaSemiCD: An Adaptive Semi-supervised Change Detection Method Based on Pseudo Label Evaluation

Change detection(CD) is an essential field in remote sensing, with a primary focus on identifying areas of change in bitemporal image pairs captured at varying intervals of the same region. The data annotation process for CD tasks is both time-consuming and labor-intensive. To better utilize the scarce labeled data and abundant unlabeled data, we introduce an adaptive semi-supervised learning method, AdaSemiCD, to improve pseudo-label usage and optimize the training process. Initially, due to the extreme class imbalance inherent in CD, the model is more inclined to focus on the background class, and it is easy to confuse the boundary of the target object. Considering these two points, we develop a measurable evaluation metric for pseudo-labels that enhances the representation of information entropy by class rebalancing and amplification of ambiguous areas, assigning greater weights to prospective change objects. Subsequently, to enhance the reliability of samplewise pseudo-labels, we introduce the AdaFusion module, to dynamically identifying the most uncertain region and substituting it with more trustworthy content. Lastly, to ensure better training stability, we introduce the AdaEMA module, which updates the teacher model using only batches of trusted samples. Cortical surface registration plays a crucial role in coordinating individual cortical functions and anatomical features, serving as a fundamental step in cortical surface analysis. Its aim is to align the anatomical or functional regions of different individuals, which is of great importance for neuroimaging studies across different populations. Currently, cortical surface registration techniques based on classical methods have been well developed. However, a key issue with classical registration methods is that for each pair of images to be registered, it is necessary to search for the optimal transformation in the deformation space according to a specific optimization algorithm until the similarity measure function converges, which cannot meet the requirements of real-time and high-precision in medical image registration. With the spectacular success of deep learning in the field of computer vision, researching cortical surface image registration techniques based on deep learning models has become a new direction. But so far, there are still only a few studies on cortical surface image registration based on deep learning. Moreover, although deep learning methods theoretically have stronger representation capabilities, surpassing the most advanced classical methods in registration accuracy and distortion control remains a challenge. Therefore, to address this challenge, this paper constructs a deep learning model to study the technology of cortical surface image registration. The specific work is as follows: (1) An unsupervised cortical surface registration network based on a multi-scale cascaded structure is designed, and a convolution method based on spherical harmonic transformation is introduced to register cortical surface data. This solves the problem of scale-inflexibility of spherical feature transformation and optimizes the multi-scale registration process. With the development and application of computer vision, many target detection networks are applied to the detection of floating objects in rivers. For the detection problems such as small targets easily missed and misdetected in water surface floating object detection tasks and difficult to deploy models. An edge computing-oriented approach to river floater detection is proposed. First, a four-fold down-sampling feature layer is added to the YOLOv5 network which enhances more target detail features and improves the detection capability of small objects. Second, CA (Coordinate Attention) is added to the Backbone to suppress background noise interference, and different pooling is used to accommodate different hierarchical features. Then, a bilinear interpolation method is adopted for up-sampling to avoid the loss of small object features. Design a data enhancement algorithm for small targets based on Mosaic to increase the number of small objects and enrich the training background. Finally, for the edge computing architecture platform, the channel pruning algorithm is used to prune and compress the model structure to adapt to the computing capability of edge devices. The experimental results show that the method can effectively improve the detection capability of the network for floating objects on the water surface. The detection accuracy can reach 93.6%, and the detection speed can be maintained at 36 frames per second, which can achieve high-precision real-time detection of floating objects on the water surface. © 2023 IEEE.

Pairwise metrics are often employed to estimate statistical dependencies between brain regions, however they do not capture higher-order information interactions. It is critical to explore higher-order interactions that go beyond paired brain areas in order to better understand information processing in the human brain. To address this problem, we applied multivariate mutual information, specifically, Total Correlation and Dual Total Correlation to reveal higher-order information in the brain. In this paper, we estimate these metrics using matrix-based Rényi ’ s entropy, which offers a direct and easily interpretable approach that is not limited by direct assumptions about probability distribution functions of multivariate time series. We applied these metrics to resting-state fMRI data in order to examine higher-order interactions in the brain. Our results showed that the higher-order information interactions captured increase gradually as the interaction order increases. Furthermore, we observed a gradual increase in the correlation between the Total Correlation and Dual Total Correlation as the interaction order increased. In addition, the significance of Dual Total Correlation values compared to Total Correlation values also indicate that the human brain exhibits synergy dominance during the resting state.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive form of memory loss that worsens over time. Detecting it early, when memory issues are mild, is crucial for effective interventions. Recent advancements in computer technology, specifically Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs), have proven to be powerful tools for analyzing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data comprehensively. In this study, we developed a GCN framework for diagnosing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) by examining the functional connectivity (FC) derived from resting-state functional MRI (rfMRI) data. Our research systematically explored various types and processing methods of FC, evaluating their performance on the OASIS-3 dataset. The experimental results revealed several key findings. On the one hand, the proposed GCN exhibited significantly superior performance over both the baseline GCN and the Support Vector Machine (SVM) models, with statistically significant differences. It attained the highest average accuracy of 80.3% and a peak accuracy of 88.2%. On the other hand, the GCN frame work obtained using individual FCs showed overall slightly better performance than the one using global FCs. However, it is important to note that GCNs using global networks with appropriate connectivity can achieve comparable or even better performance than individual networks in certain cases. Finally, our results also indicate that the connectivity within specific brain regions, such as VIS, DMN, SMN, VAN, and FPC, may play a more significant role in GCN-based MRI classification for MCI diagnosis. These findings significantly contribute to the understanding of neurodegenerative disorders and offer valuable insights into the diverse ap plications of GCNs in brain analysis and disease detection. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS– science and Technology Publications, Lda.
