Intensive task-oriented repetitive physical therapies need be provided by individualized interaction between the patients and the rehabilitation specialists to improve hand motor performance for those survived from stroke and traumatic brain injury. The goal of this research is to develop a novel wearable device for robotic assisted hand repetitive therapy. We designed a pneumatic muscle (PM) driven therapeutic device that is wearable and provides assistive forces required for grasping and finger extension. The robot has two distinct degrees of freedom at the thumb and all other fingers. The embedded sensors can feedback position and force information for robot control and quantitative evaluation of task performance. It is potential of providing supplemental at-home therapy in addition to in the clinic treatment. To realize the trajectory tracking control, a fuzzy PID controller is designed for the proposed device. The experimental results show angle tracking control of the robotic hand using the fuzzy PID controller has better performance than that using a conventional PID controller.

Looking for small universal computing devices is a natural and well investigated topic in computer science. Recently, this topic was also investigated in the framework of spiking neural P systems. One of small universality results is that a small weakly universal extended spiking neural P system with 12 neurons was constructed. In this paper, a new way is introduced for simulating register machines by spiking neural P systems, where only one neuron is used for all instructions of register machine; in this way, we can use less neurons to construct universal spiking neural P system. Specifically, we give a smaller weakly universal spiking neural P system that uses extended rules and has only 9 neurons.

How to make full use of the limited energy available and prolonging the survival time of node is a major concern in research on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). This paper presented an improved approach based on Directed Diffusion Protocol (DDP) which could meet the features of WSN, such as data-oriented, many-to-one transmissions and low energy costs, together with data aggregation mechanisms which emphasized on cascading timeouts, to eliminate the redundancy caused by the transmission of large amounts of data. This modified protocol prohibited the direct forwarding of central nodes, balancing data traffic of different sensors between the source and the sink, and proved to be able of reducing total network flows, energy consumptions and prolonging the lifetime of the network through simulations.

This paper presents a new approach for coupling control problems for norm bounded continuous-time uncertain systems. Firstly, a design of the state feedback decoupling controller is presented. The nominal model could be decoupled completely and the coupling of the actual system would be reduced. Secondly, based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI), combining the guaranteed cost control law with the decoupling control, the state feedback tracking guaranteed cost control law is proposed. Finally, taking BTT vehicle as the research objective, the design procedure of the decoupling guaranteed cost controllers is shown and the final results of the simulation are proved with effectiveness for the proposed design approach.

A novel PSO algorithm, the Migrant Particle Swarm Optimization (Migrant PSO), is presented to solve the trajectory optimization problem in the presence of constraints such as dynamic pressure and overload. Imitating the behaviour of a flock of migrant birds, the Migrant PSO algorithm employs stochastic search method and adaptive linear search method respectively for PSO search spaces including both continuous space and discrete space. In the example of the minimum peak heat rate reentry trajectory optimization for X-33 vehicle model with free terminal time, some key problems such as parameterized method are argued in detail. The simulation results indicate that the Migrant PSO algorithm proves to be able to generate a complete and optimal 3DOF reentry trajectory rapidly.
