In this paper, a fall detection system consisting of a thermopile imaging array with 80*64 pixels and a Raspberry Pi 3 has been developed. First, the thermal images captured by the hardware system are processed to eliminate fixed interferences and identify the human body. Then, the real height of the human body is estimated from the original height in the thermal images. Finally, after smoothing the fluctuation of the real height, fall events are detected according to the relative variations of the smoothed height. Our experiments show that the newly developed system and image processing algorithm can achieve much better performance on fall detection than other systems based on infrared sensors or sensor arrays.

Traditional path planning methods are too slow to meet the real-time requirement in practical applications. In order to solve this problem, an idea of path net was proposed in this paper. The path planning procedure is divided into two steps: network segment planning and segment assembling. The first step was done with Fast Marching Method, including port selection of segment and network segment planning. Second step, the A* searching method was chosen to select segments for assembling. Experiments demonstrated that our method can obtain an optimal route in a few of seconds after the start and goal are given while several minutes are needed for traditional methods. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Figs like other agricultural products may include cancerogenic aflatoxin which is caused by Aspergillus type molds. Under the UV illumination, a large portion of the aflatoxin contaminated figs expose Bright Greenish Yellow Fluorescence (BGYF) in visible light spectrum. Using the fluorescence properties, the contaminated figs are visually detected and manually removed by workers. However, this procedure could not eliminate all the aflatoxin contaminated figs and the UV exposure may cause skin cancer on workers under UV illumination. Besides, the reflectance outside the visible spectrum may include significant information for aflatoxin contamination. In this study, we investigate the NIR reflectance spectroscopy for the detection of aflatoxin contaminated figs and correctly classified the figs with 90% mean accuracy.

It is well-known that the auxiliary information plays a key role in zero-shot classification. However, most of the existing popular methods do not make effective use of auxiliary information. To address this issue, we propose an improved embedding model for zero-shot classification based on attention mechanism, called EMAM. In the proposed EMAM, we first add an attention mechanism to effectively extract the key information of auxiliary information in zero-shot classification. Then optimizes the objective function to improve the recognition rate of this model. Finally the experimental comparison is implemented on the standard zero-shot learning datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed EMAM not only verifies its validity, but also achieves good results.

It is difficult to meet both direction and curvature constraints for traditional Fast Marching (FM) method in path planning. Based on adjusting the cost function in Eiknoal equation-the control equation for FM, a new model for computing the integrated cost function was presented in this paper. A relationship formula about curvature radius was obtained and three kinds of adjusting strategies were given;two of them were used to modify the route to meet with the requires of turning constraint in this paper. Experiments showed that the improved model can be used to plan the path with FMM for agent such as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or robot, which is limited to pass through the scene matching areas. And our preliminary experiments demonstrated that the strategies are feasible and efficient to obtain path with certain curvature radius. The model can also be used to represent the problem such as an aircraft flying in a flow field. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Convolution is an important and useful operation in the fields of digital signal processing. In this paper, based on the previous work of performing discrete Fourier transform (DFT) via linear sums of discrete moments, we have made development to eliminate multiplications in discrete Fourier transforms by performing appropriate bit operations and shift operations in binary system, which can be implemented by integer additions of fixed points; then using the convolution theorem with the DFT, we compute the convolution with two DFTs, a point-by-point product, and an inverse DFT. Our algorithm involves fewer multiplications and can deal with arbitrary length signals.

Combining bottom-up and top-down attention influences, a novel region extraction model which based on object-accumulated visual attention mechanism is proposed in this paper. Compared with early research, the new approach brings in prior information at the proper time, updates scan path dynamically, needs less computational resources and reduces the probability to direct the attention to a less-meaning area. The application to search an airport target in remote sensing image was provided, through which the novel mechanism that how visual attention chose the area was described. Compared with another two region extraction models, experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the approach proposed in this paper.

Discrete Hartley transform (DHT) is an important tool in digital signal processing. In this paper, based on our previous work of performing DHT via linear sums of discrete moments, we have made development to eliminate multiplications in discrete Hartley transforms by performing appropriate bit operations and shift in binary system, which can be implemented by integer additions of fixed points. An efficient and regular systolic array is designed to implement it, and the complexity analysis is also given. Different to other fast Hartley transforms, our algorithm can deal with arbitrary length signals and get high precision. The approach is also applicable to multi-dimensional DHT and DHT inverses.

Sparse autoencoder is one approach to automatically learn features from unlabeled data and received significant attention during the development of deep neural networks. However, the learning algorithm of sparse autoencoder suffers from slow learning speed because of gradient descent based algorithms have many drawbacks. In this paper, a fast learning algorithm for sparse autoenceder is proposed which based on pseudoinverse learning algorithm (PIL). The proposed method calculates encoder weight matrix by truncating the pseudoinverse matrix of input data. The pseudoinverse truncation matrix is used as the weights of encoder, and then the input data is mapped to the hidden layer space through the biased ReLU activation function. The decoder weights are also can computed by the PIL. Unlike the gradient descent based algorithm, the proposed method does not require a time-consuming iterative optimization process and select many user-dependent parameters such as learning rate or momentum constant too. The experimental results indicate the superiority of proposed method which is very efficient and also can learned the sparsity of samples.

Fre-Yolo: Feature Refinement Extraction Network with Yolo for Blade Tip Small Point Light Detection

Detecting blade tip point light sources based on airborne computer vision is a critical step in measuring blade tip distance for coaxial unmanned helicopters. However, detecting blade tip point light sources quickly and highly accurately in a helicopter airborne environment is a challenge due to the extremely tiny imaging size of the blade tip point light sources. To this end, we propose a FRE-YOLO for detecting blade tip point light sources based on the YOLO network structure. In this work, we focus on designing a Feature Refinement Extraction network (FRE), which can greatly enrich the feature information of small targets during Backbone downsampling. Secondly, we also design a new paradigm Smooth Gaussian Distance (SmoothGD) which measures the degree of target bounding box matching. SmoothGD is mainly applied to regression loss calculation and label assigner, which can effectively improve the small target detection accuracy. Meanwhile, we construct the Blade Tip Point Light (BTPL) dataset for the network training. In addition, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method more fairly, this paper conducts the same experiments on BTPL and the small target dataset VisDrone on MMYOLO. A large amount of experimental data shows that the proposed method has a positive impact on the detection of tiny point sources at the tip of the blade. It is also at the advanced level in the field of generalized small object detection. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
