This paper proposes a new affine registration algorithm for 2D point matching. It is a two-step iterative registration algorithm by soft weight assignment based on bidirectional distance. At each iteration, the affine transformation is updated by two optimization steps, in which the model data and the test data are matched from each other respectively. By the optimization of registration at separate steps during each iteration, the proposed algorithm can provide a good estimate of the accurate affine transformation in condition of poor initialization and lack of geometric assumptions on point sets. Some experiments about comparison with the current state-of-the art approaches, demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of our method.

Feature selection (FS) is a most important step which can affect the performance of pattern recognition system. This paper presents a novel feature selection method that is based on ant colony optimization (ACO). ACO algorithm is inspired of ant's social behavior in their search for the shortest paths to food sources. In the proposed algorithm, classifier performance and the length of selected feature vector are adopted as heuristic information for ACO. So, we can select the optimal feature subset without the priori knowledge of features. Simulation results on face recognition system and ORL database show the superiority of the proposed algorithm

Siamese-based trackers currently are the dominant tracking paradigm due to the balance between speed and performance. However, it is prone to drift and tracking failure when the environment is complex and similar objects interfere. While the Siamese-based trackers perform the correlation operation, the responses of the target object and background appear in different channels, i.e., the feature spaces of the target object and background have some orthogonality. However, when meeting background clutters and similar objects interfere, this orthogonality becomes weaker and the wrong classification contribution of the object and the background reduces the stability of the learned similarity function, leading to many misclassified pixels in the heatmaps. In this work, we proposed a SiamORPN to solve the above issues. It is incorporated at two levels: an Orthogonal Region Proposal Network (ORPN) and an Adaptive Pixel-wise Aggregation (APA) module. Specifically, for ORPN, the orthogonality between the object and the background maximizes the inter-class inertia. Moreover, the ORPN introduces the orthogonal module to enhance this orthogonality. For APA, it introduces two lightweight networks to predict the weights of all pixels in different heatmaps and the weights of all pixels in different regression offsets. Experiments on challenging benchmarks, including OTB2015, VOT2016, VOT2018, GOT-10k test set, UAV123, LaSOT, and TrackingNet, demonstrate the proposed SiamORPN outperforms many SOTA trackers and achieves leading performance. The inference speed at GTX1080Ti can reach about 32 FPS, meeting the real-time requirements.

Point matching is an important component of image registration. Recent years, Coherent Point Drift (CPD) method becomes a very popular point matching approach. CPD treats point matching as a probability estimation problem and speeds up the process of matching a lot. In this method, one set of points are thought to be sampled from a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), which is centered by the other set of points. However, CPD is sensitive to outliers and noises, especially when the noise ratio increased or the number of outliers gets much high. To deal with this problem, we introduce shape context into the step of searching for matching points and then improve the form of prior probabilities of GMM in this paper. The main idea of our method is that if the most points in a data set are likely to be matched to a particular centroid, this Gaussian component should be have a more influence to GMM. Therefore, we set prior probability of GMM with the similarity between GMM components and the data set. And the computation of similarity is based on shape context. The experiments on 2D and 3D images show that when noise ratio is low, our method performs as well as CPD does, but as the ratio increased, our method is more robust and satisfactory than CPD.

Optimization in noisy environments is regard as a favorite application domains of genetic algorithms. Different methods for reducing the influence of noise are presented and discussed. A new fitness evaluation method is proposed that reevaluates all survival individuals each generation. Compared with re-sampling and population sizing, the new evaluation approach shows higher probability of searching to the global extremum area and precision of convergence. These results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective for reducing noise effects.

The problem of egomotion recovery has been treated by using as input local image motion, with the published algorithms utilizing the geometric constraint relating 2-D local image motion (optical flow, correspondence, derivatives of the image flow) to 3-D motion and structure. Since it has proved very difficult to achieve accurate input (local image motion), a lot of effort has been devoted to the development of robust techniques. A new approach to the problem of egomotion estimation is taken, based on constraints of a global nature. It is proved that local normal flow measurements form global patterns in the image plane. The position of these patterns is related to the three dimensional motion parameters. By locating some of these patterns, which depend only on subsets of the motion parameters, through a simple search technique, the 3-D motion parameters can be found. The proposed algorithmic procedure is very robust, since it is not affected by small perturbations in the normal flow measurements. As a matter of fact, since only the sign of the normal flow measurement is employed, the direction of translation and the axis of rotation can be estimated with up to 100% error in the image measurements.< >

A new method based on MLE-OED is proposed for unsupervised image segmentation of multiple objects which have fuzzy edges. It adjusts the parameters of a mixture of Gaussian distributions via minimizing a new loss function proposed to implement image segmentation based on the image's local spatial information and global intensity distribution properties. The loss function consists of two terms: a local content fitting term, which optimizes the entropy distribution, and a global statistical fitting term, which maximizes the likelihood of the parameters for the given data. The proposed segmentation method was validated by simulated and real examples. The performance in the experiments is better than those of two popular methods.

A new technology evaluation of fingerprint verification algorithms has been organized following the approach of the previous FVC2000 and FVC2002 evaluations, with the aim of tracking the quickly evolving state-ofthe- art of fingerprint recognition systems. Three sensors have been used for data collection, including a solid state sweeping sensor, and two optical sensors of different characteristics. The competition included a new category dedicated to "light" systems, characterized by limited computational and storage resources. This paper summarizes the main activities of the FVC2004 organization and provides a first overview of the evaluation. Results will be further elaborated and officially presented at the International Conference on Biometric Authentication (Hong Kong) on July 2004. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

Vertical Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) is a promising system that realizes the enormous capacity of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications. We present an extension of V-BLAST, and propose an effective transmit power allocation scheme for the extended system. The proposed transmit power allocation scheme minimizes the bit error rate (BER) averaged over all detection stages, and requires small feedback overhead from the receiver to the transmitter. Simulation results show that the extended V-BLAST system with the proposed transmit power allocation scheme provides a significant reduction in the BER compared to the conventional V-BLAST system. When the minimum mean square error (MMSE) nulling is adopted, the extended V-BLAST system is found to achieve the BER performance comparable to that of the maximum likelihood (ML) detection for the conventional V-BLAST architecture.

This paper presents a novel real-time signal processing system using for target tracking, it uses both ADSP21060 and FPGA to attain high performance and high-speed image processing. It analyses the flexible hardware architecture based on the idea of reconfigurability and modularization, and discusses three main modules and extensibility of the hardware system. Then the implementation of the image pre-processing and target intelligent tracking algorithm is discussed in detail. The experimental result shows that the system processing rate reaches 30 frames per second. The system can automatically detect targets and output the tracking information in real-time.
