Multi-Task Multi-Scale Feature Selection for Point Cloud Registration

3D point cloud registration is a process of solving the geometric transformation between two point clouds. This process is an important issue in computer vision and pattern recognition. The registration methods based on geometric features are highly sensitive to the scale of feature extraction. Changes in scale can introduce inaccuracies in feature descriptions, thereby compromising the reliability of the registration results. To mitigate the impact of feature scale on the outcomes and the high-dimensional issue arising from features of different scales, we propose a method for multi-scale point cloud feature selection. We solve the high-dimensional problem of feature selection by designing a multi-task framework. By designing a mutual information dimensionality reduction method, we decomposed the high-dimensional feature selection task of different descriptors with multi-scale features into multiple related low-dimensional feature selection tasks. Then, by means of the knowledge transfer among these low-dimensional feature selection tasks, we sought the best feature subset to obtain more robust feature information. We evaluate the effectiveness of our method by conducting extensive experiments on various datasets. The experimental results show that the method outperforms other feature descriptors in terms of descriptive power and robustness and improves the effectiveness of point cloud registration. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

A Parallel Read-Write Circuit With Fast Amplitude-Adaptive Matching Scheme to Memristor Crossbar Array

Memristor crossbar array (MCA) is a computing-in-memory (CIM) module for computational acceleration. However, conventional read-write (R-W) circuits for MCA rely heavily on external components and have shortcoming in long writing times. To address these issues, we propose a parallel R-W circuit with a fast amplitude-adaptive matching (AAM) scheme. The fast AAM scheme is designed to accelerate time of writing memristors in MCA by adaptively adjusting the writing voltage to match an optimal amplitude. The architecture of parallel R-W circuit are outlined with the implementation of R-W processes. The design principles of parallel R-W unit, fast AAM unit, and associated control logic are described for analyzing their functions within the circuit. By integrating the parallel R-W circuit with MCA, a computing block is leveraged in a neural network for classification tasks. The experimental results demonstrate that the neural network with multiple computing blocks maintains high accuracy across various datasets (over 80%). Furthermore, the proposed AAM scheme achieves an average 54% reduction in writing time compared to that one without AAM scheme. Compared to the pulse-width scheme, the parallel R-W circuit exhibits an average 3.05× speedup in adjusting a 5×5 MCA, and the speedup efficiency is higher as the increases of MCA size. © 2025 IEEE.

Existing visual saliency prediction methods mainly focus on single-modal visual saliency prediction, while ignoring the significant impact of text on visual saliency. To more comprehensively explore the influence of text on human attention in images, we propose a text-guided diffusion saliency prediction model, named TDiffSal. In specific, recent studies on stable diffusion models have shown promising performance in unifying tasks due to their inherent generalization ability. Inspired by this, a novel diffusion model for generalized visual-text saliency prediction is proposed, which formulates the prediction issue as a conditional generative task of the saliency map by employing input visual and text as the conditions. Meanwhile, we introduce a multi-head fusion module to effectively integrate text features and image features, which can efficiently guide the image denoising process and progressively refine the generated saliency map to make it semantically relevant to the text. Additionally, we employ an efficient pre-training strategy to enhance the robustness and generalization of the proposed model. We conduct extensive experiments on benchmark datasets to demonstrate its superior performance compared to other state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

As the deadliest form of pollution, air pollution had a prolonged severe damage to the human health and life safety of nearly 99% of the world's population. Facing to the problem that billions of tons of pollutants discharged into the air per year by industrial activities, this paper proposed a novel image-based air pollution monitor (IAPM) by incorporating local and global information in the self-adaptive multiscale transform domain, so as to achieve the timely and effective leakage detection of typical air pollutants from a single image. To be specific, this paper first developed a screen-shaped module according to two significant findings in visual neuroscience, which include the high sensitivity of human eyes to horizontal and vertical stimuli and the center-surround inhibition, by designing and fusing the square module, horizontal strip module and vertical strip module parallelly for simulating the behaviour of human eyes to extract local features. Second, the learnable weights and proportional mapping were applied to incorporate the screen-shaped module and lightweight vision transformer as backbone, towards more richly exploiting and fusing local and global information just as the way a brain perceives external stimuli. Third, a new self-adaptive multiscale transform domain method was devised based on two motivations from the visual characteristics of multiscale perception and the brain characteristics of self-adaptive domain transform to modify the backbone by using the operations of pooling and pointwise convolution. Extensive experiments implemented on the datasets of carbon particulate matters and ethylene leakage confirmed the superior monitoring performance of the proposed IAPM model beyond the state-of-the-art (SOTA) peers by an accuracy gain of about 4%. Furthermore, the proposed IAPM model only required 0.089 GFLOPs and 0.15 million model parameters, remarkably outperforming SOTA competitors in computational efficiency and storage resources. © 1999-2

Accurate segmentation and classification of glomeruli are fundamental to histopathology slide analysis in renal pathology, which helps to characterize individual kidney disease. Accurate segmentation of glomeruli of different types faces two main challenges compared to traditional primitives segmentation in computational image analysis. Limited by small kernel size, traditional convolutional neural networks could hardly understand the complete context information of different glomeruli. Moreover, typical semantic segmentation networks lack adequate attention to difficult glomerular samples during the training process due to serious class imbalance between different glomeruli types. We propose a new deep learning approach, Glo-Net, which accurately segments and classifies glomeruli based on digitized pathology slides. Specifically, Glo-Net divides the traditional semantic segmentation network into two branches, i.e., segmentation and classification. While the segmentation branch specifically aims at localizing and delineating the boundary of individual glomerulus, the classification branch could focus on differentiating the glomerular types based on segmented pixels. In addition, an innovative loss function is added to the classification task to compensate for the class imbalance and minor types of glomeruli. The proposed network's average accuracy and F-score in classification tasks on the multi-institution datasets (including an external validation set) are 0.858 and 0.704, respectively. The average intersection over union (IoU) in segmentation tasks is 0.866. The Glo-Net demonstrates a 5 % improvement in classification accuracy, with up to 14 % increases for minor classes and an average 6 % IoU increase for segmentation tasks. Quantitative results show that our network achieves overall higher accuracy for segmentation and classification among nine subtypes of glomeruli compared to previous work with improved robustness and generalizability. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Accurate estimation of calorie content in meals is essential for promoting healthy dietary practices and supporting healthcare efforts. However, the lack of nutritional knowledge poses challenges for individuals in estimating the calorie content of foods. This study aims to develop a deep learning-based model for estimating the calorie content of real foods through image classification and segmentation techniques. image classification was employed to identify various one-dish Thai menus, while image segmentation categorized food components into fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. A new dataset, consisting of 15 one-dish Thai menus, was created using a combination of publicly available datasets (THFOOD-50 and FoodyDudy) and self-collected images. Nutritional analysis was based on the Thai nutritional table from the Bureau of Nutrition, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health. We compared the performance of YOLOv5x, YOLOv8x, and YOLOv9e on the ThaiFood dataset using identical hyperparameters. The results showed that YOLOv8x achieved the highest mAP@0.5 of 0.883, with an accuracy of 0.829 and a recall of 0.902. YOLOv5x closely followed with a mAP@0.5 of 0.881, an accuracy of 0.822, and a recall of 0.945. YOLOv9e demonstrated competitive performance, achieving a mAP@0.5 of 0.846, an accuracy of 0.775, and a recall of 0.91. These findings highlight YOLOv8x as the most suitable model for Thai food classification and detection tasks under the evaluated conditions.

Dynamic Cross-Modal Feature Interaction Network for Hyperspectral and LiDAR Data Classification

Hyperspectral image (HSI) and LiDAR data joint classification is a challenging task. Existing multi-source remote sensing data classification methods often rely on human-designed frameworks for feature extraction, which heavily depend on expert knowledge. To address these limitations, we propose a novel Dynamic Cross-Modal Feature Interaction Network (DCMNet), the first framework leveraging a dynamic routing mechanism for HSI and LiDAR classification. Specifically, our approach introduces three feature interaction blocks: Bilinear Spatial Attention Block (BSAB), Bilinear Channel Attention Block (BCAB), and Integration Convolutional Block (ICB). These blocks are designed to effectively enhance spatial, spectral, and discriminative feature interactions. A multi-layer routing space with routing gates is designed to determine optimal computational paths, enabling data-dependent feature fusion. Additionally, bilinear attention mechanisms are employed to enhance feature interactions in spatial and channel representations. Extensive experiments on three public HSI and LiDAR datasets demonstrate the superiority of DCMNet over state-of-the-art methods. Diffusion MRI tractography technique enables non-invasive visualization of the white matter pathways in the brain. It plays a crucial role in neuroscience and clinical fields by facilitating the study of brain connectivity and neurological disorders. However, the accuracy of reconstructed tractograms has been a longstanding challenge. Recently, deep learning methods have been applied to improve tractograms for better white matter coverage, but often comes at the expense of generating excessive false-positive connections. This is largely due to their reliance on local information to predict long-range streamlines. To improve the accuracy of streamline propagation predictions, we introduce a novel deep learning framework that integrates image-domain spatial information and anatomical information along tracts, with the former extracted through convolutional layers and the later modeled via a Transformer-decoder. Additionally, we employ a weighted loss function to address fiber class imbalance encountered during training. We evaluate the proposed method on the simulated ISMRM 2015 Tractography Challenge dataset, achieving a valid streamline rate of 66.2%, white matter coverage of 63.8%, and successfully reconstructing 24 out of 25 bundles. Furthermore, on the multi-site Tractoinferno dataset, the proposed method demonstrates its ability to handle various diffusion MRI acquisition schemes, achieving a 5.7% increase in white matter coverage and a 4.1% decrease in overreach compared to RNN-based methods. In recent years, the rapid advancement of automation control and intelligent sensing technologies has positioned autonomous driving as a focal point of interest for both academia and industry. As core equipment in modern construction and industrial production, engineering machinery urgently requires intelligent transformation. To promote the intelligent development of engineering machinery, we have designed an integrated intelligent autonomous driving bulldozer system, which can be extended to various types of engineering machinery. For the specific mine dumping operation environment, we propose a multisensor fusion pose estimation algorithm framework based on the Global Navigation Satellite System, inertial measurement unit, visual cameras, and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) to address issues arising from sensor failures under harsh construction conditions. Furthermore, to ensure safety during task execution, we design a three-dimensional object detection method based on the optimal observation plane from LiDAR data. By integrating pose estimation and environmental perception results, we develop a comprehensive work planning and path-tracking algorithm to maintain task efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that our intelligent autonomous driving bulldozer system performs excellently under various working conditions. The accuracy of its pose estimation, object detection, and path tracking meets the requirements of actual construction environments, showcasing its significant potential in engineering applications. © 2025 Wiley Periodicals LLC.
