This paper presented a control design methodology for a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) generation system for residential applications. The dynamic behavior of the generation system is complex in such applications. A comprehensive control design is very important for achieving a steady system operation and efficiency. The control strategy for a 60 kW generation system was proposed and tested based on the system dynamic model. A two-variable single neuron proportional-integral (PI) decoupling controller was developed for anode pressure and humidity by adjusting the hydrogen flow and water injection. A similar controller was developed for cathode pressure and humidity by adjusting the exhaust flow and water injection. The desired oxygen excess ratio was kept by a feedback controller based on the load current. An optimal seeking controller was used to trace the unique optimal power point. Two negative feedback controllers were used to provide AC power and a suitable voltage for residential loads by a power conditioning unit. Control simulation tests showed that 60 kW PEMFC generation system responded well for computer-simulated step changes in the load power demand. This control methodology for a 60 kW PEMFC generation system would be a competitive solution for system level designs such as parameter design, performance analysis, and online optimization.

Face recognition is one of typical biometric identification method, which has a great prospect in secure authentication system, file management, human-computer interaction and social security. This paper proposes gray-scale characteristics and creates facial templates to recognize faces method based on a given number of samples. Firstly, it selects the method of building template according to the number of samples to create the facial template image; then, it will compare the difference of first-order edge entropy between recognition image and the template image and find the best match result; finally, the recognition result is output. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has good recognition effect on face recognition under non-constraint conditions.

In this paper, we present schemes on implementing the single-photon-added coherent source in quantum key distributions. We apply this source in either the standard BB84 protocol or the recently proposed measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution, comparing their performance with the cases of using other existing sources, e.g., the weak coherent source or the heralded single-photon source, and giving out corresponding numerical simulations. Our simulation results show that in both protocols the single-photon-added coherent source can greatly exceed all other existing sources. Moreover, even when taking statistical fluctuation into account, a high key generation rate can still be achieved at long distance by applying this source.

This paper investigates noise cancellation problem of memristive neural networks. Based on the reproducible gradual resistance tuning in bipolar mode, a first-order voltage-controlled memristive model is employed with asymmetric voltage thresholds. Since memristive devices are especially tiny to be densely packed in crossbar-like structures and possess long time memory needed by neuromorphic synapses, this paper shows how to approximate the behavior of synapses in neural networks using this memristive device. With the rise in the population of the world's cities, understanding the dynamics of commuters' transportation patterns has become crucial in the planning and management of urban facilities and services. In this study, we analyze how commuter patterns change during different time instances such as between weekdays and weekends. To this end, we propose two data mining techniques, namely Common Orthogonal Basis Extraction (COBE), and Joint and Individual Variation Explained (JIVE) for Integrated Analysis of Multiple Data Types and apply them to smart card data available for passengers in Singapore. We also discuss the issues of model selection and interpretability of these methods. The joint and individual patterns can help transportation companies optimize their resources in light of changes in commuter mobility behavior.
