The objective of this work is the conception and the realization of a recommendatory system, using concepts of the web usage mining and being inspired by approaches to information filtering. This system includes a new hybrid method to rank documents web, in order to propose to the Webmaster (or admin) of platform e- learning the best available documents based of the historical to research done by learners. It is, actually a meta-search engine on the web, integrated into the e-learning platform to keep surfing traces of the learner during his searching. This will permit to have a usage basis that will be used by the system to help webmaster (admin) to make decisions about the documents to be added to the platform. The elaborated system will make it passible to propose help and assistance to learners of the platform. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Since its inception, the Web continues to grow in content and number of users. Despite improvements in the technology of search engines on the web, millions of users fail to meet their information needs. The use of models and methods of information retrieval seems a reasonable solution. This article presents a new measure of similarity between two queries. This similarity measure is based on two aspects: the first is statistical based on the statistic Χ2 (method CHIR) and the second is semantic based on the mutual information. Our proposed method shows its efficiency and performance according to tests performed on the standard corpus of research information CACM. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.

Future applications of RFID technology will require creation of complex reader networks. Readers used today are not suitable for this task due to lack of interoperability. Hardware and software of different vendors is incompatible and makes applications hardly portable and scalable. In this paper new concept of RFID network structure is proposed. First, readers should be integrated in a special bus, which provides both power and data path to readers using a single coaxial cable. Second, software is split into two parts according to client-server model. A prototype of such system was implemented to test new concept for data ware of logistic nets, intellectual interactive monitoring and control systems. ©2009 IEEE.

Most current Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) examine all data features to detect intrusion. Also existing intrusion detection approaches have some limitations, namely impossibility to process a large number of audit data for realtime operation, low detection and recognition accuracy. To overcome these limitations, we apply modular neural network models to detect and recognize attacks in computer networks. They are based on the combination of principal component analysis (PCA) neural networks and multilayer perceptrons (MLP). PCA networks are employed for important data extraction and to reduce high dimensional data vectors. We present two PCA neural networks for feature extraction: linear PCA (LPCA) and nonlinear PCA (NPCA). MLP is employed to detect and recognize attacks using feature-extracted data instead of original data. The proposed approaches are tested with the help of KDD-99 dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that the designed models are promising in terms of accuracy and computational time for real world intrusion detection.

The paper presents a new version of a GMDH type algorithm able to perform an automatic model structure synthesis, robust model parameter estimation and model validation in presence of outliers. This algorithm allows controlling the complexity - number and maximal power of terms - in the models and provides stable results and computational efficiency. The performance of this algorithm is demonstrated on artificial and real data sets. As an example we present an application to the study of the association between clinical symptoms of Parkinsons disease and temporal patterns of neuronal activity recorded in the subthalamic nucleus of human patients. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

This article presents the Robust Polynomial Neural Networks, a self-organizing multilayered iterative GMDH-type algorithm that provides robust linear and nonlinear polynomial regression models. The accuracy of the algorithm is compared to traditional GMDH and the multiple linear regression analysis using artificial and real data sets in quantitative-structure activity relationship studies. The calculated data shows that the proposed method is able to select nonlinear models characterized by a high prediction ability, it is insensible to outliers and irrelevant variables and thus it provides a considerable interest in quantitative-structure activity relationship studies.

Received his B.Sc. from the University of Bombay India an M.A. in mathematics from the University of Cambridge U.K. and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland. He is currently an Associate Executive Director of the Network Technology Division at COMSAT Laboratories. He has been involved in research and development activities in ISDN VSAT networks data communications and network systems and architectures. Prior to his current positions Dr. Chitre was a Principal Scientist in the Network Technology Division at COMSAT Laboratories. Dr. Chitre joined COMSAT Laboratories in 1980. He has made major contributions to the analysis and architecture of data communication ISDN and BISDN via satellite. Dr. Chitre directs and participates in the international and national standards activities in ISDN BISDN and data communication as they apply to satellite communication. He was Chairman of the Working Group on Protocols and Network Timing Function of the CCIR/CCITT Joint Ad Hoc Group on ISDN/Satellite Matters during 1990–1992. Currently he is the Chairman of the Working Group on New Technologies in the ITU Intersector Coordinating Group (ICG) on Satellite Matters. Dr. Chitre was a programme manager during 1990 and 1991 on a contract from INTELSAT on systems studies on satellite communications systems architectures for ISDN and broadband ISDN systems. Currently he is the technical manager of the DoD Contract on ATM via satellite demonstration and the programme manager for the INTELSAT contract on analysis and top-level specification of INTELSAT ISDN subnetworks and SDH compatible transport network. Received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from national Chiao-Tung University Hsin-Chu Taiwan in 1983 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology Atlanta GA in 1986 and 1990 respectively. The role of satellite communications in networks that provide new services, such as frame relay and multimedia, is investigated. Both passive and active (on-board switching/processing) satellite systems are considered. Novel techniques are developed for each system to demonstrate, via detailed analysis and simulation, how the communications bandwidth agility of multipoint/broadcast satellite channels, and the on-board switching/processing, makes it feasible to provide these new services via hybrid satellite and terrestrial networks in a resource-efficient manner.
