Solar panels are vulnerable to accumulated dust and sand, especially in desert regions, which significantly decreases their efficiency. Therefore, the necessity of developing modern cleaning systems is a crucial task. Various types of cleaning systems have been proposed in the literature, such as electrostatic, ultrasonic, and robotic systems. However, the best methods are the ones guarantee as much efficiency as possible at the lowest cost. In this work, we propose a simple automatic system based on a rotating brush. The system is composed of two parts linked together by Bluetooth modules. The first one is a dust sensor, its main task is to send a signal to the second part, which is the cleaner, in case of detecting dirt or sand. The feasibility of the proposed prototype has been experimentally demonstrated. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The exploitation of several renewable energy sources is the optimal and promising solution to provide water for agricultural applications mainly irrigation. Generally, these agricultural areas are isolated where access to the grid is difficult and requires a significant investment. This paper presents a Neural Network-based energy management system (ANN-EMS) for a hybrid system consisting of a wind turbine, photovoltaic panels as the primary sources and batteries as secondary source, supercapacitors are used to satisfy the starting current peaks of the motor-pump unit as the batteries are unable to satisfy them. The system has been designed and simulated using Matlab/Simulink environment. The obtained results proved the efficiency of the proposed ANN-EMS algorithm under random weather conditions and load variations. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In the pursuit of enhancing and optimizing the efficiency of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) systems, the utilization of linear controllers for DC/DC converters is a prevalent practice. However, the use of these classical controllers introduces the issue of slow response time, under/overshooting, and highly oscillatory dynamics during system responses. In light of these drawbacks, this paper presents the design and assessment of a non-linear approach based on a Sliding Mode Control with Exponential Reaching Law (SMC-ERL) as a viable solution. The stability of the closed-loop control is ensured through the Lyapunov approach. The efficacy of the proposed control methodology has been assessed via comparative analysis within the Matlab/Simulink environment, encompassing two distinct scenarios, response to dynamic variations in current references and load fluctuations. The obtained results prove that the designed SMC-ERL achieves the fastest convergence with a reduction of steady-state error compared to the PI controller allowing for robust and precise control.

Pumping water using multiple energy sources is the ideal solution for supplying potable water in isolated or arid areas where there is no supply of grid power. In this paper, an effective control, and energy management strategy for a stand-alone photovoltaic-batteries water pumping system for agriculture applications is presented. The system is composed of solar photovoltaic panels as a primary energy source, and Lead-Acid batteries as a seconder energy source to supply the BLDC motor that drives the centrifugal pump. The energy management strategy uses an intelligent algorithm to satisfy the energy demanded by the motor, also to maintain the state-of-charge of the battery between safe margins in order to eliminate the full discharge and the destruction of the batteries. Drift is a major problem in photovoltaic systems;this phenomenon occurs when solar irradiation changes rapidly. Classical power maximization algorithms do not solve this problem, for this reason, a Modified Perturb & Observe (MP&O) has been implemented. The obtained results show a fast convergence performance to the maximum power point compared to the conventional Perturb & Observe (P&O). Computer simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed energy management algorithm under random meteorological conditions. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2021.

When the panels in a photovoltaic generator (PVG) are subjected to Partial Shading (PS), some bypass diodes may turn on, and consequently multiple peaks in the Power -Voltage (P-V) characteristic are produced which reduces the output power. For an optimal GPV power extraction, one of emerging PS mitigation techniques is to reconfigure the PVG by altering the electrical connections between panels according to prevailing conditions. This paper presents a reconfigurable PV architecture based on irradiance equalization row approach for a PVG connected on Total cross tied (TCT) scheme. The proposed technique uses fuzzy logic as an optimization tool to obtain uniform shade dispersion throughout the PVG, either keeping the same number of panels in each row or forming rows with different number of PV panels. To evaluate the effectiveness of proposed fuzzy logic controller (FLC), extensive simulations with different shade patterns are carried out on Matlab/Simulink. Thorough analysis with the help of characteristics curves and the results obtained for the full PV chain conversion are performed. Results of simulation show that the proposed reconfiguration method exhibit superior results as compared to fixed TCT interconnection and enhanced irradiance equalization (IEq) method in terms of efficiency, power loss and response time.

This research illustrates the potential of Web Usage Mining on e-Learning domain. We use educational data mining techniques to analyze learners' behavior, to help in learning evaluation and to enhance the structure of a given course. We focus on the preprocessing task, which is considered as the most crucial phase in the whole process. Our objective is to develop a data preprocessing method applied to Moodle logs based on SCORM content structure. In earlier works [1] [2], we proposed a preprocessing tool to implement these new methods and present the first discovered knowledge. In this research, we define new static variables according to the SCORM content tree and we apply more statistics and visualization techniques. In addition, we present multidimensional graphics in order to understand users' accesses. These aggregated variables provide teachers and tutors with interesting knowledge about students' learning process according to different levels of content accessed.

Web usage mining is a complex process used to extract knowledge about the characterization of surfers who frequent a Web site and the identification of their navigation patterns. It's an emerging discipline, notably on e-learning domain, often referred to as educational data mining. In this paper, we propose the use of educational data mining techniques to analyze learners' behavior and how they exploit the contents of a given course. We are particularly interested in the preprocessing step which is considered the most crucial phase in the whole process. Based on Scorm course content, our work aims to develop an efficient preprocessing tool for elearning platform using Moodle logs. To be able to get more insights into the course exploitation, we suggest extracting the knowledge describing students' behavior in each part of this course content. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.

This paper presents a Community Computer Environment (CCE), which supports a Community of Practice (CoP). This community brings together teachers users of a teaching method allowing their students to learn and acquire professional knowledge and know-how. This method uses an approach based on a group per project pedagogy. During its use in a classroom, teachers can find difficulties to apply the method. We detail the layer of the environment that permits to assist teachers in solving their problems. This layer is based on Case-Based Reasoning (CBR).
