Information entropy based criteria are analyzed and the Normalized Mutual Information(NMI) that is presented in the field of image registration is revised to Normalized Mutual Information Entropy (NMIE) to meet the need of the evaluation of image fusion algorithms. Then, through analysis to NMIE and some human perception based criteria, and by analyzing the essence of image fusion techniques systematically, a new index, Normalized Perception Mutual Information (NPMI), is defined in view of information transmission as well as edge preservation, and is used to evaluate the performance of image fusion algorithms. The experiments are done to three groups of images, namely, the remote sensing images corrupted by noises, the multifocus images and the medical images obtained by CT and MRI, respectively. Compared with other indices including the root mean square error (RMSE), space frequncy (SF), space visibility (SV), entropy, the collective cross entropy (CCE), information deviation (ID), and the edge information preservation value (EIPV), etc., NPMI is shown to be the only one that is effective in all the cases in the evaluation of the performances of the fused images or the image fusion algorithms, which illustrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the presented algorithm. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

This paper analyses the cause of the major faults of the SF6 high voltage circuit breaker, and then introduces a solution using an embedded control system. The control system consists of the controller for every breaker and a supervisor control system in the control center. Then a double-annular fiber field-bus communication network for the control system is introduced, of which the data link layer is implemented by the CAN controller. According to the operation state of every node and the fiber, the fiber communication module of every node can be configured to several different transmission modes. Due to the influence of temperature, the empirical formula of Beattie-Bridgman is used to calculate the pressure of SF6.

Modern power system is a typical multi-level complex giant system consisting of physical infrastructures, human operators, and social resources, etc. The conventional analytical methods and simulation systems can't provide sufficient guidance for its operation and management, because they are mainly based on physical models, natural phenomenon, or other existing control methods which are based on reductionism. ACP approach, mainly consisting of artificial systems (A), computational experiments (C) and parallel execution (P), which is based on holism and complex system theory, has its specific advantages in the research on power systems. In this article, ACP approach is applied to build up artificial power system (APS) by using multi-agent complex networks. With the help of APS, actual power system's control, scheduling, optimization and management can be improved further via providing theoretical guidance and technical support for the rolling optimizations in normal situations and emergency management in abnormal situations. As a case study, an APS constructed with actual data from North China power grid is constructed and its vulnerability is simulated and analyzed under random, dynamic and static attacks. © 2012 IEEE.

In this work, we use the approach based on observers such as the neural observer in order to introduce the diagnosis of nonlinear systems. There are different techniques for training the neural networks. Among these techniques, we quote the backpropagation technique, the backpropagation technique with momentum and the hybrid one which is a mixture between the backpropagation technique and the sliding variable structure. The robustness of this kind of training for neural observer is tested through a physical example. The obtained results show that the third type of training is better than using a classic kind of training especially concerning the rapidity of convergence.

This paper considers the distributed quadratic stabilization problems of uncertain continuous-time linear multiagent systems with undirected communication topologies. It is assumed that the agents have identical nominal dynamics while subject to different norm-bounded parameter uncertainties, leading to weakly heterogeneous multi-agent systems. A distributed controller is proposed, based on the relative states of neighboring agents and a subset of absolute states of the agents. It is shown that the distributed quadratic stabilization problem under such a controller is equivalent to the H∞ control problems of a set of decoupled linear systems having the same dimensions as a single agent. A two-step algorithm is presented to construct the distributed robust controller, which does not involve any conservatism and meanwhile decouples the feedback gain design from the communication topology. Furthermore, the distributed quadratic H∞ control problem of uncertain linear multi-agent systems with external disturbances is discussed, which can be reduced to the scaled H∞ control problems of a set of independent systems whose dimensions are equal to that of a single agent.

This paper aims to address the robust control problem of rigid spacecraft attitude maneuvers in the presence of inertia matrix uncertainty and external disturbance. A back-stepping based adaptive sliding mode control (B-ASMC) design is proposed as a solution, where the upper bounds of the parametric uncertainty and disturbance are not required in advance. Compared to current adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) design, the B-ASMC design has two advantages. Theoretically, the asymptotical stability of the attitude states rather than the sliding function is guaranteed. Practically, the over-adaptation problem in current ASMC design is alleviated and the system performance is improved. Detailed design principle and rigorous closed-loop system stability analysis are provided. A large angle attitude maneuver is employed in the numerical simulation to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

This paper aims to present an improved adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) design for rigid spacecraft attitude maneuvers. An adaptive scheme is proposed for the switching gain calculation when the upper bound of the system uncertainty is unknown in advance. Unlike existing ASMC design, which may result in an over-adaptation of the upper bound when the initial system trajectory is located far from the sliding surface, this paper presents a novel ASMC strategy by introducing a decay term in the sliding function to reduce or eliminate the unrelated factor in the adaptation scheme. Consequently, a lower-chattering control signal is achieved. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Face recognition is one of the most efficient applications of computer authentication and pattern recognition. Therefore it attracts significant attention of researchers. In the past decades, many feature extraction algorithms have been proposed. In this paper Gabor features and Zernike moment were used to extract features from human face images for recognition application. This paper is a study for new constructive training algorithm for Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) which is applied to face recognition application. An incremental training procedure was employed where the training patterns are learned incrementally. This algorithm started with a single training pattern and a single hidden-layer using one neuron. During neural network training, the hidden neuron is increased when the Mean Square Error (MSE) of the Training Data (TD) is not reduced or the algorithm gets stuck in a local minimum. Input patterns are trained incrementally (one by one) until all patterns of TD are selected and trained. Face recognition system structure based on a MLP neural network was constructed and was tested for face recognition. The proposed approach was tested on the UMIST database. Experimental results indicate that we can obtain an optimal architecture of neural network classifier (with the least possible number of hidden neuron) using our present constructive algorithm, and prove the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to the MLP architecture with back-propagation algorithm.

Interactive image segmentation which needs the user to give certain hard constraints has shown promising performance for object segmentation. In this paper, we consider characters in text image as a special kind of object, and propose an adaptive graph cut based text binarization method to segment text from background. The main contributions of the paper lie in: 1) in order to make the binarization local adaptive with uneven background, the text region image is firstly roughly split into several sub-images on which graph cut is applied, and 2) considering the unique characteristics of the text, we propose to automatically classify some pixels as text or background with high confidence, severed as hard constraints seeds for graph cut to extract text from background by spreading the seeds into the whole sub-image. The experimental results show that our approach could get better performance in both character extraction accuracy and recognition accuracy.

In this paper, we proposed an architecture of a hierarchical networked urban traffic signal control system Based on Multi-agent. With mobile agent technology, traffic control strategies are designed as traffic control agents, which can move from device to device in a network. The system can reconfigure and replace these agents according to inconstant states of traffic environment and performances of agents. By this way, demand-based control is realized in traffic signal control system. Then we described the details and key technologies in the procession of agent-generation, agent-storage and agent-usage. At last, a prototype of the system is developed and basic functions of this system are tested by simulations. These simulations also confirm extensibility and effectiveness of the system.
