The article is devoted to the problem of assessing the risk of the presence of an autonomous underwater vehicle in a position limited by a given course angle at every moment of the system's operation. These risky situations arise in the tasks of navigation, docking, tracking objects, receiving and transmitting data in the underwater environment. To perform risk assessments, the most probable trajectories of movement to the threshold values of phase states are used. The most probable trajectories are calculated by solving the minimization problems of the so-called quasipotentials with differential coupling in the form of linear differential equations describing an object and external disturbances acting on it. As a result, we have information about the trajectories of movement, time and probability of events when the object moves along the trajectory. Comparing the current state of the object with known trajectories at each moment of the system operation, an assessment is made of how close the object is to the threshold values. The evaluation results are presented in the form of numerical simulation, which are then aggregated and shown in the form of quality metrics of the forecast of the time remaining until the threshold is crossed. The forecast cannot be carried out for a sufficiently longer amount of time, since the nature of the risk situation already determines the functioning of the object in the danger zone. The estimation of the boundary of this prediction is also shown by simulation using the Monte Carlo method.

Interacting with a specific animal society by integrating autonomous robot/s into the society, has become a powerful method to influence the behaviour of animals and investigate collective behaviour of both, animal and robot societies. In order to interact with animals, artificial unit/s should be well integrated into their society. In the European project ASSISIbf, a network of static autonomous robots called CASUs (Combined Actuator Sensor Units) for interaction with young honeybees has been designed. In the proposed approach CASUs can affect honeybees using three types of physical stimuli: heat, vibration and light. To provide feedback signals necessary for controlling CASU interaction with honeybees, accurate and reliable measurements of the stimuli are necessary. This paper describes the mechanical and electronic design of CASUs, capable of emitting controllable heat, vibration and light stimulations. Each CASU is equipped with temperature sensors, 3-axis accelerometers, infrared proximity sensors and microcontroller for data processing. Preliminary experimental results with honeybee groups are presented.

Various alternative aircraft inspection methods are first discussed and advantages of using robots are analysed. ANDI (Automated NonDestructive Inspector) and CIMP (Crown Inspection Mobile Platform) are then described. Remote 3D stereoscopic visual inspection is outlined and algorithms developed for crack detection and surface and subsurface corrosion detection are described. Future development trends are also outlined.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are becoming part of many industrial applications. The advancements in battery technologies played a crucial part for this trend. However, no matter what the advancements are, all batteries have a fixed capacity and after some time drain out. In order to extend the flying time window, the prediction of the time that the battery will no longer be able to support a flying condition is crucial. This in fact can be cast as a standard Remaining Useful Life prognostic problem, similarly encountered in many fields. In this article, the problem of Remaining Useful Life estimation of a battery, under different flight conditions, is tackled using four machine learning techniques: a linear sparse model, a variant of support vector regression, a multilayer perceptron and an advanced tree based algorithm. The efficiency of the overall proposed machine learning techniques, in the field of batteries prognostics, is evaluated based on multiple experimental data from different flight conditions. © 2017

In this article, we present a multi-robot continuous ice thickness measurement system that can operate in plateau glacial environments with natural slopes up to 30°, large crevasses of glacier, slippery snow/ice ground surface, and inevitable terrain undulations. The ground station operator can operate the unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) with improved safety driving ability by following the optimal driving advice provided by the driving skill learning model. The air-ground robot collaboration algorithm coordinated the operation of the UGV with the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to improve the mobility of the UGV in complex glacier environments. We obtain multi-scale and multi-aspect environmental information through air-ground collaboration and use a lightweight environmental modeling method to obtain a three-dimensional model of the glacier surface and subglacial terrain. The system was applied in the Korchung Gangri Glacier in the Tibet Plateau in June 2022. The experimental results show that the system can operate in the extreme environment of plateau glaciers and collect high-precision continuous ice thickness distribution data. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Information acquired in map building presents characteristics of uncertainty, imprecision and even high conflict, especially in the course of building grid map using sonar. Here a new method of information fusion - DSmT (Dezert-Smarandache theory) recently developed from DST and Bayesian theory was introduced to apply to managing and dealing with this uncertainty. Aiming to static environment, classic DSm mathematic modal was established by constructing the general basic belief assignment function, so that the global evidence grid map is built by applying the classic DSm rule. Pioneer II virtual mobile robot served as an experiment platform. By comparing the numbers of acquiring-information spot, the quality of grid map building and the time in need of finishing the global map building, better fusion results than that with DST are gotten. Especially when dealing with high conflictive information from sonar grid map building, DSmT was more effective and successful than DST. In short, this study not only found a new method for building map under static environment, but also supplied with a theory foundation for us to further apply hybrid DSmT to dynamic unknown environment and multi-robots' building map together

Single-cell RNA sequencing technology captures gene expression at the whole-genome scale and single-cell level in many cells. Thus, the cellular states during a physiological process would be captured in detail. These data provide new opportunities and challenges for systems biology. Previously, the models in systems biology dealt with the dynamics of specific signaling pathways. However, it is almost impossible to directly model the dynamics of the whole genome due to the ultrahigh dimensionality of the data. Here, to model its gene regulatory dynamics, the dimensionality of the whole genome was reduced significantly using the latent space of a variational autoencoder, a generative deep learning model. In the low-dimensional latent space, an ordinary differentiation equation (ODE) system has been established to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the whole genome system. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this method, we generated a low-dimensional representation of a systems biology model we previously developed. The variational autoencoder reduced the dimension from 13 to 2 in latent space. An ODE model was developed to analyze the dynamics of this two-dimensional system. The results indicated that the 2-dimensional model captured the essence of the original systems biology model. © 2023 IEEE.

Semantic attack, as a covert and highly destructive network attack, seriously threatens the security of automatic guided vehicle (AGV) system. To make it worse, the dynamic change of wireless channel makes semantic attack detection more non-intractable. In order to solve the issues on the current semantic attack detection in wireless network environment, this paper proposes an extended stochastic Petri net (ESPN)-based detection method. It builds a stochastic Petri net (SPN) model for the normal operation process of AGV system, and detects the semantic attack by comparing the characteristics of relevance matrix, average dwell time and token density. Additionally, we innovatively add the wireless channel evaluation parameter in the SPN model, to estimate the current wireless channel state and eliminate the impact of wireless interference on attack detection. Eventually, an AGV attack detection system experimental platform has been developed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively eliminate the impact of wireless channel interference on semantic attack detection, and has impressive detection performance. At present, blockchain is not only applied in the financial field, but also extended to the medical, insurance, internet of things, and many other fields. Its independence leads to more and more significant problems of network isolation. To address the problem of the cooperative operation between different blockchains, this article proposes virtual chain, a storage model supporting cross-blockchain transaction. It not only ensures that cross-chain transactions are tamper-proof and traceable but also realizes completely decentralized storage. First, to tackle the multidimensional heterogeneous problem existing in cross-chain trading, a data structure based on prefix tree is proposed to manage cross-chain trading data on top of source chain and target chain. Second, a signature verification mechanism based on elliptic curve is proposed to meet the operational atomicity requirements of both parties of cross-chain transaction. Third, the data fusion technology is used to expand the block capacity indirectly to achieve the high throughput of cross-chain transactions. Finally, by using the credibility-based access control and block chain technology to ensure the security of the data storage model, and conduct security analysis from three aspects of tamper-proof, data protection and anti-conspiracy node attack. The experiment shows that the proposed cross-chain transaction storage model can realize the efficient storage of the heterogeneous data, and satisfy the high requirement of the cross-chain transaction. Moreover, the virtual chain storage model establishes a safe and reliable working environment. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

The insulator is a vital component of power equipment that aids in power transmission. Aiming at transmission line faults caused by missing insulator pieces, this paper proposed to divide insulator detection and defect location into two steps. Additionally, we add Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) module into the Faster R-CNN model at the insulator detection stage, which could enhance insulator detection accuracy under similar model complexity and also improve the detection efficiency of the YOLOv3 model on insulator defect location. © 2023 SPIE.
