Emotion analysis in conversation has been a popular research topic in the natural language processing field. While much of the existing research has focused on emotion recognition in conversation, the emotion inference task in conversation is more challenging due to its specific prerequisites. In this paper, we propose EmoDamp, a novel model for the conversational emotion inference task. By referring to psychological theories, a bidirectional emotion damping network(BED Net) is designed to model the emotion generation mechanism. Furthermore, external commonsense knowledge is also used to supplement the prediction results to make them more consistent with authentic logic. Finally, a conditional random field (CRF) is used to capture the potential constraints of the emotion transfer process in conversation and simulate emotion contagion. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets demonstrate that EmoDamp outperforms the baseline model, achieving improved results on each emotion category and showcasing its effectiveness. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of bearings is important for the secure running and reducing maintenance costs of rotating machinery. In this article, a novel feature extraction and RUL prediction framework of bearing is proposed by utilizing time-frequency representations (TFRs) and deep neural network with double attention (DA-DNN). Firstly, TFRs are employed to extract the degradation features associated with RUL prediction, which can effectively cope with the non-stationary properties of bearing vibration data. The reduced dimensional TFRs are then used as the DA-DNN model input. Afterwards, DA-DNN is developed by employing the double attention structure to extract the key degradation features more efficiently. The dual-attention structure has ability to capture the degradationrelated features from two aspects of channel attention and spatial attention, which enables the network to focus on high RUL-relevant information. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of DA-DNN, which shows higher performance in terms of prediction accuracy compared to other deep learning (DL) methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Change detection is the process of automatically extracting change areas from bi-temporal remote sensing images. The key of deep learning-based change detection methods is to extract features that represent changes/non-changes. Most of the existing methods only enhance the representation ability of the changed regions through the model architecture design, but lack further constraints in the representation space. This paper introduces a prototype-guided representation distribution optimization method. By comparing pixel features with prototypes, confusing pixels can be determined, and these pixels are adaptively weighted during learning, so that similar representations are closer and different representations are farther apart. In addition, the representation distribution is also applied as transferred knowledge to knowledge distillation for lightweight CD model. Experimental results on two public datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The continuous-scale super-resolution (SR) method for remote sensing (RS) images has the potential to achieve flexible scale SR with a single network, representing a significant research area in the field of RS. However, the majority of prevailing methods learn features from localization, thereby neglecting the global semantic coherence of RS images. This results in unbalanced SR outcomes. Furthermore, the optimization strategy based on the multilayer perceptron (MLP) utilized in the implicit neural representation (INR) method results in blurred reconstructed image edges. To address these issues, a novel continuous-scale SR method for RS images, a global information edge augmentation network (GIEAN), is proposed. Initially, the global state space model (GSSM) aggregates the global information of the image from diverse perspectives and learns the contextual interactions at disparate locations of the image globally. Subsequently, the dual edge enhancement module (DEEM) learns the image body and edges independently through the main branch and edge branch, respectively, with the objective of enhancing the edge component of the SR results. Extensive experimental evaluation on the UCMerced dataset demonstrates the superiority of GIEAN over existing continuous-scale SR techniques.

This work proposes a high-performance broadband orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam-generating metasurface based on optically transparent media. A broadband polarization-converting transmissive metasurface, which operates in the 18 - 24 (28.57% fractional bandwidth) GHz range, has been realized by collaboratively designing dual C-split ring resonator structures and bidirectional lattice-patterned surface networks. The array structure demonstrates typical helical phase distribution features in the K-band, and experimental results verify simulation design. Innovatively employing a composite structure of quartz glass substrate and patterned conductive thin films, the design achieves compatible optimization of 77% visible-light transmittance and microwave broadband performance. This approach breaks through the mutually exclusive limitations of traditional metasurfaces’ optical/electromagnetic properties, providing a highly integrated solution for transparent antenna radomes in satellite communication systems and multi-mode beam multiplexing applications.

Non-autoregressive Machine Translation with Probabilistic Context-free Grammar

Non-autoregressive Transformer(NAT) significantly accelerates the inference of neural machine translation. However, conventional NAT models suffer from limited expression power and performance degradation compared to autoregressive (AT) models due to the assumption of conditional independence among target tokens. To address these limitations, we propose a novel approach called PCFG-NAT, which leverages a specially designed Probabilistic Context-Free Grammar (PCFG) to enhance the ability of NAT models to capture complex dependencies among output tokens. Experimental results on major machine translation benchmarks demonstrate that PCFG-NAT further narrows the gap in translation quality between NAT and AT models. Moreover, PCFG-NAT facilitates a deeper understanding of the generated sentences, addressing the lack of satisfactory explainability in neural machine translation.2 Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Remote sensing image target detection is one of the key technologies in the field of intelligent interpretation of remote sensing images, and it has significant application value in various areas, including military defense. When performing remote sensing image object detection on airborne and spaceborne platforms, the vast amount of remote sensing data processing and limited computational resources impose high real-time requirements on the object detection algorithms. This paper designs a lightweight object detection network model named YOLOv5-tiny, based on the existing deep learning network detection model YOLOv5s, and deploys it on the Jetson TX2 development board for training and testing. Experimental results show that the proposed YOLOv5-tiny model, when tested on the SAR-AIRcraft-1.0 with an input image size of 640x640, is 10 times smaller than YOLOv5s; it has a computational cost of 5.2 GFLOPs, which is 1/5 of YOLOv5s, and the processing time for a single image is reduced to half that of YOLOv5s, with only a 0.1% decrease in accuracy.

Bidirectional Logits Tree: Pursuing Granularity Reconcilement in Fine-Grained Classification

This paper addresses the challenge of Granularity Competition in fine-grained classification tasks, which arises due to the semantic gap between multi-granularity labels. Existing approaches typically develop independent hierarchy-aware models based on shared features extracted from a common base encoder. However, because coarse-grained levels are inherently easier to learn than finer ones, the base encoder tends to prioritize coarse feature abstractions, which impedes the learning of fine-grained features. To overcome this challenge, we propose a novel framework called the Bidirectional Logits Tree (BiLT) for Granularity Reconcilement. The key idea is to develop classifiers sequentially from the finest to the coarsest granularities, rather than parallelly constructing a set of classifiers based on the same input features. In this setup, the outputs of finer-grained classifiers serve as inputs for coarser-grained ones, facilitating the flow of hierarchical semantic information across different granularities. On top of this, we further introduce an Adaptive Intra-Granularity Difference Learning (AIGDL) approach to uncover subtle semantic differences between classes within the same granularity. Selective classification allows a machine learning model to reject some hard inputs and thus improve the reliability of its predictions. In this area, the ensemble method is powerful in practice, but there has been no solid analysis on why the ensemble method works. Inspired by an interesting empirical result that the improvement of the ensemble largely comes from top-ambiguity samples where its member models diverge, we prove that, based on some assumptions, the ensemble has a lower selective risk than the member model for any coverage within a range. The proof is nontrivial since the selective risk is a non-convex function of the model prediction. The assumptions and the theoretical results are supported by systematic experiments on both computer vision and natural language processing tasks.

Student cognitive modeling (SCM) is a fundamental task in intelligent education, with applications ranging from personalized learning to educational resource allocation. By exploiting students' response logs, SCM aims to predict their exercise performance as well as estimate knowledge proficiency in a subject. Data mining approaches such as matrix factorization can obtain high accuracy in predicting student performance on exercises, but the knowledge proficiency is unknown or poorly estimated. The situation is further exacerbated if only sparse interactions exist between exercises and students (or knowledge concepts). To solve this dilemma, we root monotonicity (a fundamental psychometric theory on educational assessments) in a co-factorization framework and present an autoencoder-like nonnegative matrix co-factorization (AE-NMCF), which improves the accuracy of estimating the student's knowledge proficiency via an encoder-decoder learning pipeline. The resulting estimation problem is nonconvex with nonnegative constraints. We introduce a projected gradient method based on block coordinate descent with Lipschitz constants and guarantee the method's theoretical convergence. Experiments on several real-world data sets demonstrate the efficacy of our approach in terms of both performance prediction accuracy and knowledge estimation ability, when compared with existing student cognitive models. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation.
