Dynamic gesture detection and classification

This paper proposes a framework of gesture detection and classification in continuous sequence data. The goal of detection is to determine the start and end frame of a gesture in the continuous sequence. The detection method using multi-modal features ensures the robustness and high accuracy. To classify the detected gestures represented by covariance matrices, a distance measurement on Grassmann manifold is presented to strengthen the discriminative power. The framework is evaluated on ChaLearn Multimodal Gesture dataset 2013 and achieves high accuracy. New detection method for coronal mass ejection capable of dark cavity processing

A k-mean-value based identification method capable of effectively processing the dark cavity was put forward to effectively identify the Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) in wide-angle spectrometric coronagraph images. Firstly, median filter was adopted as preprocess algorithm to eliminate the noise, and then difference images was preliminarily classified through the k-mean-value clustering algorithm, distribution characters of each category were classified;The first classification was identified according to the distribution characters, thus the highlighted CME image and dark cavity CME image were successfully identified. Secondly, partitioning strategy and polar coordinate transformation were carried out in the coronagraph image identified with no CME through twice clustering method, and the k-mean-value clustering algorithm was applied in above image, statistics of the twice clustering results was made, and the secondary classification by virtue of the distribution characters was completed. The results show that the method can effectively detect CME image in the coronagraph image, and can directly indicate and display the CME regional point, especially for thoes with dark cavity. The given measurement threshold based on highlighted CME is 200~250 for the center of third classification, while that based on dark cavity CME is lower than 120 for the center of the first classification, and the pixel point within the classification is between 1 000 and 30 000. © 2016, Science Press. This paper describes an image compression method based on block truncation coding (BTC) and linear regression coding (LRC) hybrid strategy. BTC is simple and easy to use, but only two representative values can not adequately represent the visual feature of image blocks. However, LRC can obtain different values of points with the line function by recording the coefficient of the regression line while the data distribution shows a linear relationship. The proposed method designs a hybrid strategy to combine the advantages of the two methods to improve image quality. In the paper, first, models are designed to rearrange the data of image blocks to satisfy a linear distribution, and then these models are used to code the image blocks. The experimental results indicated that the proposed method is superior to the BTC scheme in terms of image quality, and it can be used for image compression applications. © 2016.

Memory bandwidth optimization of SpMV on GPGPUs

It is an important task to improve performance for sparse matrix vector multiplication （SpMV）, and it is a difficult task because of its irregular memory access. Gen- eral purpose GPU （GPGPU） provides high computing abil- ity and substantial bandwidth that cannot be fully exploited by SpMV due to its irregularity. In this paper, we propose two novel methods to optimize the memory bandwidth for SpMV on GPGPU. First, a new storage format is proposed to exploit memory bandwidth of GPU architecture more effi- ciently. The new storage format can ensure that there are as many non-zeros as possible in the format which is suitable to exploit the memory bandwidth of the GPU. Second, we pro- pose a cache blocking method to improve the performance of SpMV on GPU architecture. The sparse matrix is partitioned into sub-blocks that are stored in CSR format. With the block- ing method, the corresponding part of vector x can be reused in the GPU cache, so the time to access the global memory for vector x is reduced heavily. Experiments are carried out on three GPU platforms, GeForce 9800 GX2, GeForce GTX 480, and Tesla K40. Experimental results show that both new methods can efficiently improve the utilization of GPU mem- ory bandwidth and the performance of the GPU.

Foreground detection methods can be applied to efficiently distinguish foreground objects including moving or static objects from back- ground which is very important in the application of video analysis, especially video surveillance. An excellent background model can obtain a good foreground detection results. A lot of background modeling methods had been proposed, but few comprehensive evaluations of them are available. These methods suffer from various challenges such as illumination changes and dynamic background. This paper first analyzed advantages and disadvantages of various background modeling methods in video analysis applications and then compared their performance in terms of quality and the computational cost. The Change *** （CDnet2014） dataset and another video dataset with different envi- ronmental conditions （indoor, outdoor, snow） were used to test each method. The experimental results sufficiently demonstrated the strengths and drawbacks of traditional and recently proposed state-of-the-art background modeling methods. This work is helpful for both researchers and engineering practitioners. Codes of background modeling methods evaluated in this paper are available ***/***.

Surveillance video is characterized by large amount of data and redundancy, which makes the suspicious face detection to be a problem. To solve the problem above we proposed suspicious face detection based on key frame. Surveillance video has the type of fixed background, so this paper used the frame difference method with low computational complexity and small computation to extract the key frame. We proposed a new method combined DPM with skin color detection to detect the suspicious face in the key frames. To solve the speed bottleneck of the traditional DPM, we proposed to use the fast HOG LUT feature extraction and the near optimal cost sensitive decision making improving the traditional method. Meanwhile we used YCrCb + otsu skin color segmentation. Since the otsu is easily affected by the illumination, we proposed an improved skin color detection. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithms are robust and accurate for real-time. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Quantum state tomography via local measurements is an efficient tool for characterizing quantum states. However, it requires that the original global state be uniquely determined (UD) by its local reduced density matrices (RDMs). In this work, we demonstrate for the first time a class of states that are UD by their RDMs under the assumption that the global state is pure, but fail to be UD in the absence of that assumption. This discovery allows us to classify quantum states according to their UD properties, with the requirement that each class be treated distinctly in the practice of simplifying quantum state tomography. Additionally, we experimentally test the feasibility and stability of performing quantum state tomography via the measurement of local RDMs for each class. These theoretical and experimental results demonstrate the advantages and possible pitfalls of quantum state tomography with local measurements.

In recent years, the rapid development of network and E-commerce technologies, promotes the development of human body big data. New technologies, such as 3D scanning and 3D printing will improve our life quality. The new socialized manufacturing network composed of IoT, advanced logistics network and 3D printers. Everyone is allowed to have chance to participate in any process of the whole production manufacturing lifecycle by some ways, such as crowdsourcing. Boosts the creation, production and consumption patterns of individuation, real-time transformation and E-commerce, possibly will lead to a new industrial revolution. In this revolutionary change wave, public concerns focus on the human body big data used for social manufacturing of wearable products or personalized medical treatment. Although many scholars have done a lot of research work, the collection of the human body shape big data still faces many challenges. There is no complete, separated theoretical research works in progress, it should be summarized and improved systematically. In this paper, we review that big data for human body shape is gaining momentum. The 3D scanning and 3D modeling of human body shape are summarized and concluded. The main applications of these big data are analyzed.

Nonlocal interferometric phase filtering methods achieve excellent performance in both noise reduction and texture preservation, even in the case of complicated topography and low coherence. The main limitation of the nonlocal methods is the computational burden. This paper proposed a nonlocal phase filtering strategy for the practical InSAR system, which combine the nonlocal algorithm with the traditional method to improve the efficiency.

In this paper, a multiple-input single-output (MISO) simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system, including one base station (BS) equipped with multiple antennas, one desired single-antenna information receiver (IR), and N (N > 1) single-antenna energy-harvesting receivers (ERs) is considered. Assuming that the information signal to the desired IR may be eavesdropped by ERs if ERs are malicious, we investigate the secrecy performance of the target MISO SWIPT system when imperfect channel state information (CSI) is available and adopted for transmit antenna selection at the BS. Considering that each eavesdropping link experiences independent but not necessarily identically distributed Rayleigh fading, the closed-form expressions for the exact and the asymptotic secrecy outage probability, and the average secrecy capacity are derived and verified by simulations. Furthermore, the optimal power splitting factor is derived for each ER to realize the tradeoff between the energy harvesting and the information eavesdropping. Our results reveal the impact of the imperfect CSI on the secrecy performance of MISO SWIPT systems in the presence of multiple wiretap channels. © 2016 IEEE.
