Post-editing has been successfully applied to correct the output of MT systems to generate better translation, but as a downstream task its positive feedback to MT has not been well studied. In this paper, we present a novel rule refinement method which uses Simulated Post-Editing (SiPE) to capture the errors made by the MT systems and generates refined translation rules. Our method is system-independent and doesn’t entail any additional resources. Experimental results on largescale data show a significant improvement over both phrase-based and syntax-based baselines. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive haze removal method based on dark channel prior. The dark channel value is compensated for estimating the transmission;the atmospheric light will be re-estimated through the analysis of the characteristics of images. Images are usually degraded with haze due to the object absorption and atmospheric scattering. The experiments show that the images recovered by the proposed method are better than other existing methods and recovered images are closer to real images. Meanwhile, the Mean Square Error (MSE) is used to verify the proposed approach for the images recovered which are taken from the FRIDA database. Through the comparison of Inverse Discrete Cosine Transforms (IDCT) of haze images and haze-free images, the statistics of the comparison shows that the haze images consume more computation time. To improve the time complexity, the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) was used to increase the computing efficiency. © 2015, ICIC International.

Over the last few decades,feature selection has been a hot research area in pattern recognition and machine learning,and many famous feature selection algorithms have been *** them,feature selection using positive approximation(FSPA)is an accelerator for traditional rough set based feature selection algorithms,which can significantly reduce the running ***,FSPA still cannot handle large scale and high dimension dataset due to the memory *** this paper,we propose a parallel implementation of FSPA using MapReduce framework,which is a programming model for processing large scale *** experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can process large scale and high dimension dataset efficiently on commodity computers.

Whole genome sequences are generally accepted as excellent tools for studying evolutionary relationships. Due to the problems caused by the uncertainty in alignment, existing tools for phylogenetic analysis based on multiple alignments could not be directly applied to the whole-genome comparison and phylogenomic studies. There has been a growing interest in alignment-free methods for phylogenetic analysis using complete genome data. The "distances" used in these alignment-free methods are not proper distance metrics in the strict mathematical sense. In this study, we first review them in a more general frame — dissimilarity. Then we propose some new dissimilarities for phylogenetic analysis. Last three genome datasets are employed to evaluate these dissimilarities from a biological point of view. © 2014 Bentham Science Publishers.

Secondary structure element alignment kernel method for prediction of protein structural classes

In this paper, we aim at predicting protein structural classes for low-homology data sets based on predicted secondary structures. We propose a new and simple kernel method, named as SSEAKSVM, to predict protein structural classes. The secondary structures of all protein sequences are obtained by using the tool PSIPRED and then a linear kernel on the basis of secondary structure element alignment scores is constructed for training a support vector machine classifier without parameter adjusting. Our method SSEAKSVM was evaluated on two low-homology datasets 25PDB and 1189 with sequence homology being 25% and 40%, respectively. The jackknife test is used to test and compare our method with other existing methods. The overall accuracies on these two data sets are 86.3% and 84.5%, respectively, which are higher than those obtained by other existing methods. Especially, our method achieves higher accuracies (88.1% and 88.5%) for differentiating the α+ β class and the α/β class compared to other methods. This suggests that our method is valuable to predict protein structural classes particularly for low-homology protein sequences. Geometric correction is an essential processing procedure in remote sensing image processing. The algorithms used in geometric correction are time intensive and the size of remote sensing images is very large. Meanwhile, the data to be calculated is in huge size and is accumulating rapidly every day. Hence, the fast processing of geometric correction of remote sensing image becomes an urgent research problem. Through the rapid development of GPU, the current GPU has a great advantage in processing speed and memory bandwidth over CPU. It provides a new way for high performance computing. In this paper, we present three optimization solutions based on CPU-GPU hybrid architecture and the analysis of their performances. Experiments are also given and the results are consistent with the analysis. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Given a budget and a network where different nodes have different costs to be selected, the budgeted influence maximization is to select seeds on budget so that the number of final influenced nodes can be maximized. In this paper, we propose three strategies to solve this problem. First, Billboard strategy chooses the most influential nodes as the seeds. Second, Handbill strategy chooses the most cost-effective nodes as the seeds. Finally, Combination strategy chooses the "best" seeds from two "better" seed sets obtained from the former two strategies. Experiments show that Billboard strategy and Handbill strategy can obtain good solution efficiently. Combination strategy is the best algorithm or matches the best algorithm in terms of both accuracy and efficiency, and it is more balanced than the state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

The availability of new technologies in the areas of digital electronics, communications, internet, and computer technologies opens a door to build a smart grid, which can increase significantly the capacity, services and intelligence of power systems. This paper proposes a power distribution network management cloud platform based on Tekla Xpower. Proposed system can support the implementation of current power grid and/or the coming smart grid. Utilizing the existing computing and storage installations, cloud platform can integrate the existing resources to improve the computation and storage capacities, the data security of the entire system, and can increase application intelligence, service quality and decision-making capability as well. The four layer architecture of cloud platform is designed, and a pilot case study for DMS is provided.

Most of the quantization based watermarking algorithms are very sensitive to valumetric distortions, while these distortions are regarded as common processing in audio/video analysis. In recent years, watermarking methods which can resist this kind of distortions have attracted a lot of interests. But still many proposed methods can only deal with one certain kind of valumetric distortion as amplitude scaling, and fail in other kinds of valumetric distortions like constant change attack or gamma correction. In this paper, we propose a very simple method to tackle all the three kinds of valumetric distortions. A constant change invariant domain is first constructed by spread transform, in which the watermark is embedded using a certain amplitude scaling invariant based watermarking scheme. Several typical watermarking methods and attacks have been implemented in our experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2014 IEEE.
