Educational data mining (EDM) offers an effective solution to predict students' course grades in the next term. Conventional grade prediction methods can be viewed as regressing an expectation of the probability distribution of the student's grade, typically called single-value grade prediction. The reliable prediction outcomes of these methods depend on the complete input information related to students. However, next-term grade prediction often encounters the challenge of incomplete input information due to the inaccessibility of future data and the privacy of data. In this scenario, single-value grade prediction struggles to assess students' academic status, as it may not be represented and assessed by relying on a singular expectation value. This limitation increases the risk of misjudgment, and may lead to errors in educational decision-making. Considering the challenge of collecting complete input information, we shift from traditional single-value predictions to forecasting the explicit probability distribution of the course grade. The probability distribution of the grade can assess the students' academic status by providing probabilities corresponding to all possible grade values rather than relying solely on an expectation value, which offers the foundation to support the educators' decision-making. In this article, the course grade distribution prediction (CGDP) model is proposed, aiming to estimate an explicit conditional probability distribution of course grades in the next term. This model can identify at-risk students, offering comprehensive decision-making information for educators and students. To ensure precise distribution predictions, a calibration method is also employed to improve the alignment between predicted and actual probabilities. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed model in early grade warning for undergraduates, based on real university data. © 2020 IEEE.

In current computation neuroscience, it is widely accepted that the mammalian entorhinal-hippocampus complex provides representations of spatial environment, exhibiting specific responses to particular locations and directions. Various computation models of spatial cell firing have been proposed to unravel the mysteries of spatial cognition representation in the brain. However, an increasing body of experimental evidence suggests that the brain operates more akin to a predictive system. Actively acquiring and utilizing limited environmental information, the brain constructs internal models during interaction with the external world, generating predictive representations of internal states following environmental changes. Building upon this premise, we propose a predictive coding theory-based entorhinal-hippocampus spatial cognition model. This model incorporates vestibular proprioceptive cues and border vector cells discharge responses to initially derive unimodal place cell discharge fields, followed by hippocampal place cells projecting to the entorhinal cortex via excitatory-inhibitory synaptic connections, ultimately generating periodic hexagonal grid cell discharge fields. Experimental results demonstrate that the neuronal discharge patterns obtained by this model align with physiological research findings, thereby providing new insights for further investigations into brain cognitive mechanisms. © 2024 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

To solve the problem of semantic loss in text representation, this paper proposes a new embedding method of word representation in semantic space called wt2svec based on supervised latent Dirichlet allocation(SLDA) and Word2vec. It generates the global topic embedding word vector utilizing SLDA which can discover the global semantic information through the latent topics on the whole document set. It gets the local semantic embedding word vector based on the Word2vec. The new semantic word vector is obtained by combining the global semantic information with the local semantic information. Additionally, the document semantic vector named doc2svec is generated. The experimental results on different datasets show that wt2svec model can obviously promote the accuracy of the semantic similarity of words,and improve the performance of text categorization compared with Word2vec.

Image co-segmentation and co-localization exploit inter-image information to identify and extract foreground objects with a batch mode. However, they remain challenging when confronted with large object variations or complex backgrounds. This paper proposes a multi-view graph embedding (MV-Gem) learning scheme which integrates diversity, robustness and discernibility of object features to alleviate this phenomenon. To encourage the diversity, the deep co-information containing both low-layer general representations and high-layer semantic information is generated to form a multi-view feature pool for comprehensive co-object description. To enhance the robustness, a multi-view adaptive weighted learning is formulated to fuse the deep co-information for feature complementation. To ensure the discernibility, the graph embedding and sparse constraint are embedded into the fusion formulation for feature selection. The former aims to inherit important structures from multiple views, and the latter further selects important features to restrain irrelevant backgrounds. With these techniques, MV-Gem gradually recovers all co-objects through optimization iterations. Extensive experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that MV-Gem is capable of locating and delineating co-objects in an image group. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

An Evolutionary Multitasking Algorithm for Efficient Multiobjective Recommendations

Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. The Multi-access Edge Cloud(MEC) networks extend cloud computing services and capabilities to the edge of the networks. By bringing computation and storage capabilities closer to end-users and connected devices, MEC networks can support a wide range of applications. MEC networks can also leverage various types of resources, including computation resources, network resources, radio resources,and location-based resources, to provide multidimensional resources for intelligent applications in 5/***, tasks generated by users often consist of multiple subtasks that require different types of resources. It is a challenging problem to offload multiresource task requests to the edge cloud aiming at maximizing benefits due to the heterogeneity of resources provided by devices. To address this issue,we mathematically model the task requests with multiple subtasks. Then, the problem of task offloading of multi-resource task requests is proved to be NP-hard. Furthermore, we propose a novel Dual-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning algorithm with Node First and Link features(NF_L_DA_DRL) based on the policy network, to optimize the benefits generated by offloading multi-resource task requests in MEC networks. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the benefit of task offloading with higher resource utilization compared with baseline algorithms.

The investigation of the optoelectronic characteristics of all-perovskite tandem solar cells holds pivotal significance in surpassing the Shockley-Queisser limit of single-junction perovskite solar cells. Initially, we established two distinct four-terminal tandem solar cells (4T TSCs) composed of different perovskite materials: FA0.8Cs0.2Pb(I0.7Br0.3)3 (Eg = 1.75 eV) and MASnI3 (Eg = 1.3 eV). Through numerical simulations of the optoelectronic characteristics of 4T TSCs, we evaluated the performance of the TSCs at varying perovskite layer thicknesses. Following optimization, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the 4T TSCs increased from the initial 30.34% to 33.54%. Through an in-depth analysis of the cell and energy distribution in TSCs, it was observed that the light-coupling layer significantly influenced the PCE of the 4T TSCs. Upon optimizing the light-coupling layer, the PCE of the TSC increased from the initial 30.34% to 34.7%. This study provides crucial theoretical and experimental foundations for optimizing the performance of all-perovskite TSCs. © 2024 IEEE.

Blockchain-Enabled Secure, Fair and Scalable Data Sharing in Zero-Trust Edge-End Environment

In edge computing, the Zero-Trust Security Model (ZTSM), as a key enabling technology for next-generation networks, plays a crucial role in providing authentication for addressing data sharing concerns, such as frequent data breaches, data misuse, and cyberattacks. However, due to the complexity and diversity of edge environments, ZTSM struggles to meet the security requirements of data sharing frameworks solely through enhanced authentication. Consequently, such frameworks with ZTSM still face challenges in ensuring data integrity, evaluating various node behaviors, and coping with the increasing complexity of node attributes. To address these issues, we propose a blockchain-enabled secure, fair and scalable data sharing framework in a zero-trust edge-end environment in this paper. Specifically, we first propose a Merkle forest-based data storage model for the classified storage of loosely coupled data, consequently enhancing the scalability of the model. Then, we design a node behavior-based reputation assessment mechanism to ensure fairness during data sharing. Moreover, a data sharing protocol supervised by smart contract is proposed, working with the aforementioned storage and assessment schemes, to ensure the security of data sharing. Finally, comprehensive security analysis validates the security, fairness and scalability of the proposed framework. Extensive experimental results show that, as transaction volume grows, the time cost of data traversal in the storage model becomes progressively more efficient. Additionally, when the size of the smart contract is increased tenfold, the maximum time cost of the data sharing protocol rises by only 4.98 times. © 1983-2012 IEEE.
