A Stealthy False Data Injection Attack Scheme Against Sensor Measurements Using Partial System Knowledge

Attack design is indispensable for analyzing potential risks of networked control systems (NCSs). However, the remote control center is usually well protected and its knowledge is difficult to be disclosed, which becomes a major obstacle in developing stealthy false data injection (FDI) attack scheme because only partial system knowledge (i.e., the system matrices of the physical plant) could be used. To meet this challenge, a novel stealthy FDI attack scheme against the sensor measurement is proposed by employing the normal and compromised self-governed filters held by malicious attackers, where the normal one is adopted to estimate the system state and the compromised one is used as the virtual attacked target. The corresponding attack strategy is obtained by maximizing the estimation error of the compromised self-governed filter. Then, the residual of the compromised system is derived to prove attack stealthiness. Next, it is derived and found that the attack impact on system estimation performance is the same as that based on full system knowledge. Furthermore, the divergence condition of NCSs under the attack is presented. Finally, all the theoretical analyses are verified by simulation results. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

How Vision-Language Tasks Benefit from Large Pre-trained Models: A Survey

The exploration of various vision-language tasks, such as visual captioning, visual question answering, and visual commonsense reasoning, is an important area in artificial intelligence and continuously attracts the research community’s attention. Despite the improvements in overall performance, classic challenges still exist in vision-language tasks and hinder the development of this area. In recent years, the rise of pre-trained models is driving the research on vision-language tasks. Thanks to the massive scale of training data and model parameters, pretrained models have exhibited excellent performance in numerous downstream tasks. Inspired by the powerful capabilities of pretrained models, new paradigms have emerged to solve the classic challenges. Such methods have become mainstream in current research with increasing attention and rapid advances. In this paper, we present a comprehensive overview of how vision-language tasks benefit from pre-trained models. First, we review several main challenges in vision-language tasks and discuss the limitations of previous solutions before the era of pre-training. Next, we summarize the recent advances in incorporating pretrained models to address the challenges in vision-language tasks. Finally, we analyze the potential risks associated with the inherent limitations of pre-trained models and discuss possible solutions, attempting to provide future research directions. This paper makes an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of overseas cargo on the China-Laos Railway and predicts the future freight trend based on historical data, so as to provide decision-making support for enhancing the influence of the China-Laos Railway freight market and promoting the quality and increment of freight transportation. Firstly, the current situation of cargo transportation were analyzed. Then, by using the K-means cluster analysis method, the cluster analysis of the freight volume of major stations outside the China-Laos Railway was carried out, and the characteristics of freight categories between stations were discussed. Finally, based on the method of time series analysis, the total amount of freight and the total amount of major goods are predicted, so as to reveal the development trend of China-Laos railway freight transportation and provide decision-making support for relevant departments and enterprises to formulate industrial development strategies. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Direction of Arrival (DOA) is one of the commonly used measurement for source localization. However, the receiving equipment of modern electronic reconnaissance can not completely intercept the pulse signal in the complex and dense electromagnetic environment. Thus, it is not easy to accurately estimate its DOA, especially in the case of multiple targets. In order to solve this problem, we propose a sparse super-resolution DOA method to achieve DOA estimation incomplete pulse. Combined with compressed sensing theory, the complex DOA estimation problem is transformed into Basis Pursuit (BP) method based on the minimum 1 norm optimization criterion. The method estimates the DOA by solving the optimal sparse vector that constitutes the signal and can detect multiple targets in the same range-azimuth unit. In addition, compared with the traditional direction-finding method using the BP method, our method can guarantee the performance of direction-finding while reducing the requirement of pulse integrity. The simulation results support the theoretical analysis. © 2022 IEEE.

As a key component in the transmission system of high-speed trains, once a failure occurs, it will directly affect the safety of train operation. Therefore, it is of great significance to construct a degradation index that can comprehensively characterize the running state of bearings and establish a reliable remaining useful life model to ensure the safety of train operation. Aiming at the problems that the redundant features in the existing multi-feature fusion process affect the diagnosis performance and the spurious fluctuations phenomenon of the fusion features causes the inaccurate determination of the start fault time and leads to the low prediction accuracy of remaining useful life (RUL), A method based on adaptive feature fusion and autoregressive integrated moving average model is proposed for rolling bearings prediction. The research in this study demonstrates that by comparing and verifying with two sets of public data, the proposed method is effective in accurately identifying the features that are most sensitive to degradation trends, accurately determine the initial fault moment of bearings, achieve effective prediction of the RUL of bearings, and the related research results can provide reference basis for predictive maintenance of train bearings. © 2024, The Authors. Static for Dynamic: Towards a Deeper Understanding of Dynamic Facial Expressions Using Static Expression Data

Dynamic facial expression recognition (DFER) infers emotions from the temporal evolution of expressions, unlike static facial expression recognition (SFER), which relies solely on a single snapshot. This temporal analysis provides richer information and promises greater recognition capability. However, current DFER methods often exhibit unsatisfied performance largely due to fewer training samples compared to SFER. Given the inherent correlation between static and dynamic expressions, we hypothesize that leveraging the abundant SFER data can enhance DFER. To this end, we propose Static-for-Dynamic (S4D), a unified dual-modal learning framework that integrates SFER data as a complementary resource for DFER. Specifically, S4D employs dual-modal self-supervised pre-training on facial images and videos using a shared Vision Transformer (ViT) encoder-decoder architecture, yielding improved spatiotemporal representations. The pre-trained encoder is then fine-tuned on static and dynamic expression datasets in a multi-task learning setup to facilitate emotional information interaction. Unfortunately, vanilla multitask learning in our study results in negative transfer. To address this, we propose an innovative Mixture of Adapter Experts (MoAE) module that facilitates task-specific knowledge acquisition while effectively extracting shared knowledge from both static and dynamic expression data. Extensive experiments demonstrate that S4D achieves a deeper understanding of DFER, setting new state-of-the-art performance on FERV39K, MAFW, and DFEW benchmarks, with weighted average recall (WAR) of 53.65%, 58.44%, and 76.68%, respectively. Additionally, a systematic correlation analysis between SFER and DFER tasks is presented, which further elucidates the potential benefits of leveraging SFER. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Facial action unit (AU) detection, aiming to classify AU present in the facial image, has long suffered from insufficient AU annotations. In this paper, we aim to mitigate this data scarcity issue by learning AU representations from a large number of unlabelled facial videos in a contrastive learning paradigm. We formulate the self-supervised AU representation learning signals in two-fold: (1) AU representation should be frame-wisely discriminative within a short video clip;(2) Facial frames sampled from different identities but show analogous facial AUs should have consistent AU representations. As to achieve these goals, we propose to contrastively learn the AU representation within a video clip and devise a cross-identity reconstruction mechanism to learn the person-independent representations. Specially, we adopt a margin-based temporal contrastive learning paradigm to perceive the temporal AU coherence and evolution characteristics within a clip that consists of consecutive input facial frames. Moreover, the cross-identity reconstruction mechanism facilitates pushing the faces from different identities but show analogous AUs close in the latent embedding space. Experimental results on three public AU datasets demonstrate that the learned AU representation is discriminative for AU detection. Our method outperforms other contrastive learning methods and significantly closes the performance gap between the self-supervised and supervised AU detection approaches. © 2024, CC BY.

In recent years, Variational AutoEncoder (VAE) based methods have made many important achievements in the field of collaborative filtering recommendation system. VAE is a kind of Bayesian model which combines latent variable model with variational inference, but its optimization is often troubled by posterior collapse. By comparing the optimization process of VAE and ordinary autoencoder, we observe that the mismatch between poorly optimized encoder and decoder with too strong characterization capabilities makes it difficult to learn the mapping from the data manifold to the parameterized graph. Since the learning of a posteriori network corresponds to the encoder, we think that the problem of a posteriori collapse can be alleviated by balancing the encoder and decoder better. Therefore, we proposed Hy-VAE, which combines conventional VAE with deterministic autoencoder, and has the advantages of both VAE and deterministic autoencoder. Experiments on three real-world recommendation data sets show that our method alleviates the posterior crash problem in VAE and improves the recommendation performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Knowledge tracing has been widely used in online learning systems to guide the students' future learning. However, most existing KT models primarily focus on extracting abundant information from the question sets and explore the relationships between them, but ignore the personalized student behavioral information in the learning process. This will limit the model's ability to accurately capture the personalized knowledge states of students and reasonably predict their performances. To alleviate this limitation, we explicitly models the personalized learning process by incorporating the emotions, a representative personalized behavior in the learning process, into KT framework. Specifically, we present a novel Dual-State Personalized Knowledge Tracing with Emotional Incorporation model to achieve this goal: Firstly, we incorporate emotional information into the modeling process of knowledge state, resulting in the Knowledge State Boosting Module. Secondly, we design an Emotional State Tracing Module to monitor students' personalized emotional states, and propose an emotion prediction method based on personalized emotional states. Finally, we apply the predicted emotions to enhance students' response prediction. Furthermore, to extend the generalization capability of our model across different datasets, we design a transferred version of DEKT, named Transfer Learningbased Self-loop model (T-DEKT). A Novel Dual-Stage Algorithm for Capacitated Arc Routing Problems with Time-Dependent Service Costs

This paper focuses on solving the capacitated arc routing problem with time-dependent service costs (CARPTDSC), which is motivated by winter gritting applications. In the current literature, exact algorithms designed for CARPTDSC can only handle small-scale instances, while heuristic algorithms fail to obtain high-quality solutions. To overcome these limitations, we propose a novel dual-stage algorithm, called MAENS-GN, that consists of a routing stage and a vehicle departure time optimization stage. The former obtains the routing plan, while the the latter determines the vehicle departure time. Importantly, existing literature often ignores the characteristic information contained in the relationship between the route cost and the vehicle departure time. The most signiﬁcant innovation in this paper lies in the exploitation of this characteristic information during the vehicle departure time optimization stage. Speciﬁcally, we conduct a detailed analysis of this relationship under various scenarios and employ tailored methods to obtain the (approximately) optimal vehicle departure time. Furthermore, we propose an improved initialization strategy that considers time-dependent characteristics to achieve better solution quality. In addition to the modiﬁed benchmark test sets, we also experiment on a real-world test set. Experimental results demonstrate that MAENS-GN can obtain high-quality solutions on both small-scale and larger-scale instances of CARPTDSC. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
