Generative AI tools exemplified by ChatGPT are becoming a new reality. This study is motivated by the premise that "AI generated content may exhibit a distinctive behavior that can be separated from scientific articles". In this study, we show how articles can be generated using means of prompt engineering for various diseases and conditions. We then show how we tested this premise in two phases and prove its validity. Subsequently, we introduce xFakeSci, a novel learning algorithm, that is capable of distinguishing ChatGPT-generated articles from publications produced by scientists. The algorithm is trained using network models driven from both sources. To mitigate overfitting issues, we incorporated a calibration step that is built upon data-driven heuristics, including proximity and ratios. Specifically, from a total of a 3952 fake articles for three different medical conditions, the algorithm was trained using only 100 articles, but calibrated using folds of 100 articles. As for the classification step, it was performed using 300 articles per condition. The actual label steps took place against an equal mix of 50 generated articles and 50 authentic PubMed abstracts. The testing also spanned publication periods from 2010 to 2024 and encompassed research on three distinct diseases: cancer, depression, and Alzheimer’s. Further, we evaluated the accuracy of the xFakeSci algorithm against some of the classical data mining algorithms (e.g., Support Vector Machines, Regression, and Naive Bayes). The xFakeSci algorithm achieved F1 scores ranging from 80% to 94%, outperforming common data mining algorithms, which scored F1 values between 38% and 52%. We attribute the noticeable difference to the introduction of calibration and a proximity distance heuristic, which underscores this promising performance. Smart Contract Vulnerability Detection Based on Semantic Graph and Residual Graph Convolutional Networks with Edge Attention

It is imperative to assure the security of smart contracts via intelligent vulnerability detection tools before deploying smart contracts on blockchains. The existing deep learning-based approaches fail to effectively capture the rich syntax and semantic information embedded in smart contracts. In this paper, we detect smart contract vulnerabilities at the function level by constructing a novel semantic graph (SG) for each function and learning the SGs using a new graph convolutional network EA-RGCN. Our proposed method consists of three stages. In the first stage, we create the SG which characterizes rich data-data, instruction-instruction and instruction-data relationships in the function code. In the second stage, we propose EA-RGCN which contains three parts: node and edge representation via word2vec, content feature extraction with a residual GCN (RGCN) module, and semantic feature extraction using an edge attention (EA) module. Finally, we concatenate the code content features and the semantic features to obtain the global code feature and use a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to identify whether the function is vulnerable. We conduct experiments on the dataset constructed from real-world smart contracts. In this work, we address the challenging task of Generalized Referring Expression Comprehension (GREC). Compared to the classic Referring Expression Comprehension (REC) that focuses on single-target expressions, GREC extends the scope to a more practical setting by further encompassing no-target and multi-target expressions. Existing REC methods face challenges in handling the complex cases encountered in GREC, primarily due to their fixed output and limitations in multi-modal representations. To address these issues, we propose a Hierarchical Alignment-enhanced Adaptive Grounding Network (HieA2G) for GREC, which can flexibly deal with various types of referring expressions. First, a Hierarchical Multi-modal Semantic Alignment (HMSA) module is proposed to incorporate three levels of alignments, including word-object, phrase-object, and text-image alignment. It enables hierarchical cross-modal interactions across multiple levels to achieve comprehensive and robust multi-modal understanding, greatly enhancing grounding ability for complex cases. Then, to address the varying number of target objects in GREC, we introduce an Adaptive Grounding Counter (AGC) to dynamically determine the number of output targets. Additionally, an auxiliary contrastive loss is employed in AGC to enhance object-counting ability by pulling in multi-modal features with the same counting and pushing away those with different counting. Extensive experimental results show that HieA2G achieves new state-of-the-art performance on the challenging GREC task and also the other 4 tasks, including REC, Phrase Grounding, Referring Expression Segmentation (RES), and Generalized Referring Expression Segmentation (GRES), demonstrating the remarkable superiority and generalizability of the proposed HieA2G. Event detection, an important research topic of information extraction, aims to automatically identify and classify event instances from the text. Previous studies have introduced methods combining syntactic information and graph convolutional networks into the field of event detection and verified their effectiveness. However, such methods often ignore the high-order information on the syntactic tree with noisy words, which limits their classification quality. In this paper, we propose a deep symmetric graph convolutional network to organically integrate high-order and low-order syntactic information to strengthen the semantic features of sentences. Specifically, we design a skip connection with attention gating mechanism, which selects valuable low-order syntactic information under the supervision of high-order syntactic information to strengthen the aggregation of high-order and low-order syntactic information. Then, a graph perturbation mechanism is proposed to discard noisy nodes on the syntactic graph to reduce the noisy information in the high-order syntactic information. We conducted extensive experiments on the widely used ACE 2005 benchmark, and the experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Event Detection (ED) aims to recognize instances of specified types of event triggers in text. Existing graph neural network-based models have achieved promising progress to alleviate this problem by capturing different orders of syntactic information, but they are limited by two issues. First, the long-range syntactic information between words is not fully exploited. Second, they ignore the semantic information provided by dependency labels which provide linguistic knowledge that is useful to ED. As a result, we proposed a label-enhanced dense graph convolutional network that employs dense connectivity and Graph Transformer Networks (GTN) to learn a flexible selection of edge types and composite relations between the words. Each layer can make use of the collective knowledge of dense blocks in order to model syntactic dependencies over long distances through dense connectivity. The proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance for ED on common datasets after extensive experiments are conducted to show its advantages.

Anonymisation technique has been extensively studied and widely applied for privacy-preserving data publishing. However, most existing methods ignore personal anonymity requirements. In these approaches, the microdata consist of three categories of attribute: explicit-identifier, quasi-identifier and sensitive attribute. In fact, the data sensitivity should be determined by individuals. An attribute is semi-sensitive if it contains both QI and sensitive values. In this paper, we propose a novel anonymisation approach, called local anatomy, to address personalised privacy protection. Local anatomy partitions the tuples who consider the value as sensitive into buckets inside each attribute. We conduct some experiments to illustrate that local anatomy can protect all the sensitive values and preserve great information utility. Additionally, we also present the concept of intelligent anonymisation system as our direction of future work. © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Unsupervised statistical text simplification using pre-trained language modeling for initialization

Unsupervised text simplification has attracted much attention due to the scarcity of high-quality parallel text simplification corpora. Recent an unsupervised statistical text simplification based on phrase-based machine translation system (UnsupPBMT) achieved good performance, which initializes the phrase tables using the similar words obtained by word embedding modeling. Since word embedding modeling only considers the relevance between words, the phrase table in UnsupPBMT contains a lot of dissimilar words. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised statistical text simplification using pre-trained language modeling BERT for initialization. Specifically, we use BERT as a general linguistic knowledge base for predicting similar words. Experimental results show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art unsupervised text simplification methods on three benchmarks, even outperforms some supervised baselines.

Sampling is a fundamental method for generating data *** many data analysis methods are developed based on probability distributions,maintaining distributions when sampling can help to ensure good data analysis ***,sampling a minimum subset while maintaining probability distributions is still a *** this paper,we decompose a joint probability distribution into a product of conditional probabilities based on Bayesian networks and use the chi-square test to formulate a sampling problem that requires that the sampled subset pass the distribution test to ensure the ***,a heuristic sampling algorithm is proposed to generate the required subset by designing two scoring functions:one based on the chi-square test and the other based on likelihood *** on four types of datasets with a size of 60000 show that when the significant difference level,a,is set to 0.05,the algorithm can exclude 99.9%,99.0%,93.1%and 96.7%of the samples based on their Bayesian networks-ASIA,ALARM,HEPAR2,and ANDES,*** subsets of the same size are sampled,the subset generated by our algorithm passes all the distribution tests and the average distribution difference is approximately 0.03;by contrast,the subsets generated by random sampling pass only 83.8%of the tests,and the average distribution difference is approximately 0.24.

Fake News Detection Based on Personality Prediction Model

[Objective] This paper aims to improve the efficiency of fake news detection by mining personality information from comment text. [Methods] BERT models learn the textual features of news and comments. The personality prediction model based on BERT model training learns the big five personality traits. The text features and personality traits of news and comments are used to predict true and fake news. [Results] The experiment is conducted on a subset of Weibo datasets. The result shows that the addition of personality traits could improve the accuracy of fake news detection (+1.96%,90.76%) and F1 scores (+1.51%,90.60%). [Limitations] The use of a personality prediction model requires a certain number of comment texts. The interpretability of the model needs to be further improved. [Conclusions] The personality traits of comment users can effectively improve the identification accuracy and F1 values of fake news detection. © 2025 Chinese Academy of Sciences. With the advancement of deep learning models nowadays, they have successfully applied in the semi-supervised medical image segmentation where there are few annotated medical images and a large number of unlabeled ones. A representative approach in this regard is the semi-supervised method based on consistency regularization, which improves model training by imposing consistency constraints (perturbations) on unlabeled data. However, the perturbations in this kind of methods are often artificially designed, which may introduce biases unfavorable to the model learning in the handling of medical image segmentation. On the other hand, the majority of such methods often overlook the supervision in the Encoder stage of training and primarily focus on the outcomes in the later stages, potentially leading to chaotic learning in the initial phase and subsequently impacting the learning process of the model in the later stages. At the meanwhile, they miss the intrinsic spatial-frequency information of the images. Therefore, in this study, we propose a new semi-supervised medical image segmentation approach based on frequency domain aware stable consistency regularization. Specifically, to avoid the bias introduced by artificially setting perturbations, we first utilize the inherent frequency domain information of images, including both high and low frequencies, as the consistency constraint. Secondly, we incorporate supervision in the Encoder stage of model training to ensure that the model does not fail to learn due to the disruption of the original feature space caused by strong augmentation. Finally, extensive experimentation validates the effectiveness of our semi-supervised approach.
