With the increasing availability of videos, how to edit them and present the most interesting parts to users, i.e., video highlight, has become an urgent need with many broad applications. As users’ visual preferences are subjective and vary from person to person, previous generalized video highlight extraction models fail to tailor to users’ unique preferences. In this paper, we study the problem of personalized video highlight recommendation with rich visual content. By dividing each video into non-overlapping segments, we formulate the problem as a personalized segment recommendation task with many new segments in the test stage. The key challenges of this problem lie in: the cold-start users with limited video highlight records in the training data and new segments without any user ratings at the test stage. To tackle these challenges, an intuitive idea is to formulate a user-item interaction graph and perform inductive graph neural network based models for better user and item embedding learning. However, the graph embedding models fail to generalize to unseen items as these models rely on the item content feature and item link information for item embedding calculation. To this end, we propose an inductive Graph based Transfer learning framework for personalized video highlight Recommendation (TransGRec). TransGRec is composed of two parts: a graph neural network followed by an item embedding transfer network. Specifically, the graph neural network part exploits the higher-order proximity between users and segments to alleviate the user cold-start problem. The transfer network is designed to approximate the learned item embeddings from graph neural networks by taking each item’s visual content as input, in order to tackle the new segment problem in the test phase. SVT-Net: Super Light-Weight Sparse Voxel Transformer for Large Scale Place Recognition

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) and Autonomous Driving are becoming increasingly more important in recent years. Point cloud-based large scale place recognition is the spine of them. While many models have been proposed and have achieved acceptable performance by learning short-range local features, they always skip long-range contextual properties. Moreover, the model size also becomes a serious shackle for their wide applications. To overcome these challenges, we propose a super light-weight network model termed SVT-Net. On top of the highly efficient 3D Sparse Convolution (SP-Conv), an Atom-based Sparse Voxel Transformer (ASVT) and a Cluster-based Sparse Voxel Transformer (CSVT) are proposed respectively to learn both short-range local features and long-range contextual features. Consisting of ASVT and CSVT, SVT-Net can achieve state-of-the-art performance in terms of both recognition accuracy and running speed with a super-light model size (0.9M parameters). Meanwhile, for the purpose of further boosting efficiency, we introduce two simplified versions, which also achieve state-of-the-art performance and further reduce the model size to 0.8M and 0.4M respectively. Finding a subset of users to statistically represent the original social network in terms of attributes has received a lot of attention recently. The existing literature had proved that the problem is NP-Hard and proposed some sampling models, but representative degrees aren't systematically studied. Taking node degree and edge weight into account, we present a topic sampling model for the whole social network in this paper. Firstly, by statistically calculating node degrees for one real dataset, we find that one node is more likely to be a representative user if its degree is high. We then give some definitions about representative degrees. Based on statistical stratified sample, we finally give a sampling model of topic representative users who are from most or all attribute groups in the network. Experimental results show that our algorithm significantly outperforms other six baseline methods and is also effective in terms of time complexity.

Deep learning seeks to achieve excellent performance for representation learning in image datasets. However, supervised deep learning models such as convolutional neural networks require a large number of labeled image data, which is intractable in applications, while unsupervised deep learning models like stacked denoising auto-encoder cannot employ label information. Meanwhile, the redundancy of image data incurs performance degradation on representation learning for aforementioned models. To address these problems, we propose a semi-supervised deep learning framework called stacked convolutional sparse auto-encoder, which can learn robust and sparse representations from image data with fewer labeled data records. More specifically, the framework is constructed by stacking layers. In each layer, higher layer feature representations are generated by features of lower layers in a convolutional way with kernels learned by a sparse auto-encoder. Meanwhile, to solve the data redundance problem, the algorithm of Reconstruction Independent Component Analysis is designed to train on patches for sphering the input data. The label information is encoded using a Softmax Regression model for semi-supervised learning. With this framework, higher level representations are learned by layers mapping from image data. It can boost the performance of the base subsequent classifiers such as support vector machines. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior classification performance of our framework compared to several state-of-the-art representation learning methods. © 2021 ACM.

PWG-IDS: An intrusion detection model for solving class imbalance in IIoT networks using generative adversarial networks

With the continuous development of industrial IoT (IIoT) technology, network security is becoming more and more important. And intrusion detection is an important part of its security. However, since the amount of attack traffic is very small compared to normal traffic, this imbalance makes intrusion detection in it very difficult. To address this imbalance, an intrusion detection system called pretraining Wasserstein generative adversarial network intrusion detection system (PWG-IDS) is proposed in this paper. This system is divided into two main modules: 1) In this module, we introduce the pretraining mechanism in the Wasserstein generative adversarial network with gradient penalty (WGAN-GP) for the first time, firstly using the normal network traffic to train the WGAN-GP, and then inputting the imbalance data into the pre-trained WGAN-GP to retrain and generate the final required data. 2) Intrusion detection module: We use LightGBM as the classification algorithm to detect attack traffic in IIoT networks. The experimental results show that our proposed PWG-IDS outperforms other models, with F1-scores of 99% and 89% on the 2 datasets, respectively. And the pretraining mechanism we proposed can also be widely used in other GANs, providing a new way of thinking for the training of GANs. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a diversity control regularization term to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Visual Question Answering (VQA) is to reason out correct answers based on input questions and images. Significant progresses have been made by learning rich embedding features from images and questions by bilinear models. Attention mechanisms are widely used to focus on specific visual and textual information in VQA reasoning process. However, most state-of-the-art methods concentrate on fusing the global multi-modal features, while neglect local features. Besides, the dimension is reduced excessively (from K×2048 to 2048) in general visual attention, which causes a mass of visual information loss. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-channel co-attention network (MC-CAN), which integrates multi-modal features from global level to local level. We design different multi-channel attention mechanisms separately for visual (from K×2048 to M×2048) and textual features at different level of integrations. Additionally, we further improve our proposed approach by combining it with the complementary modules such as the MLB and the Count modules. Experiments on benchmark datasets show that our approach achieves better VQA performance than other state-of-the-art methods.

The potential application of intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) for future wireless cellular communication systems has motivated the study of metasurface for achieving additional space degree of freedom, where IRS is used to enhance the desired signal strength and suppress the interference. In this paper, by using the additional design degree of freedom provided by the IRS, we jointly optimize the transmit beamforming vector at the BS and the reflective beamforming vector at the IRS to maximize the minimum rate in the IRS-aided multi-user multiple-input-single-output broadcast channel (MISO-BC), subject to the unit modulus constraints of the reflective beamforming vector. In order to solve the non-convex optimization problem, we propose an efficient algorithm based on alternating optimization. In particular, we optimize the transmit beamforming vectors via the second-order cone problem (SOCP) and reflective beamforming vector by using the semi-definite relaxation (SDR). Numerical results show that the use of IRS leads to significant higher SINR values than benchmark schemes without IRS.

Domain adaption aims to use the source domain knowledge to assist the model learning. Most of the existing methods are based on the feature representation learning model, which are achieved by aligning the data distribution between two domains. However, in the process of feature representation learning, due to the diversity of distribution differences between domains, it faces the problems of degenerated feature transformation and unevaluated distribution alignment, which bring challenges to the existing research. Therefore, the dynamic distribution alignment factors of marginal distribution and conditional distribution are introduced to reduce the spatial distortion in the process of feature representation, and the domain adaptation is realized based on the dynamic manifold regularization constraints and structural risk minimization learning. In this paper, we propose the structural risk minimization and an improved dynamic manifold regularization constraint to solve these problems. Experimental results show that compared with traditional methods and deep level methods, the algorithm in this paper has a significant improvement in classification accuracy.

Computationally Efficient Approximations for Matrix-based Rényi's Entropy

The recently developed matrix-based Rényi's αorder entropy enables measurement of information in data simply using the eigenspectrum of symmetric positive semi-definite (PSD) matrices in reproducing kernel Hilbert space, without estimation of the underlying data distribution. This intriguing property makes this new information measurement widely adopted in multiple statistical inference and learning tasks. However, the computation of such quantity involves the trace operator on a PSD matrix G to power α (i.e., tr(Gα)), with a normal complexity of nearly O(n3), which severely hampers its practical usage when the number of samples (i.e., n) is large. In this work, we present computationally efficient approximations to this new entropy functional that can reduce its complexity to even significantly less than O(n2). To this end, we leverage the recent progress on Randomized Numerical Linear Algebra, developing Taylor, Chebyshev and Lanczos approximations to tr(Gα) for arbitrary values of α by converting it into a matrix-vector multiplication problem. We also establish the connection between the matrix-based Rényi's entropy and PSD matrix approximation, which enables exploiting both clustering and block low-rank structure of G to further reduce the computational cost. We theoretically provide approximation accuracy guarantees and illustrate the properties for different approximations. Large-scale experimental evaluations on both synthetic and real-world data corroborate our theoretical findings, showing promising speedup with negligible loss in accuracy.
