This research explores the potential of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for brain tumor detection. It evaluates various models like CNN simple and VGG 16. The proposed system follows a three-step process: image preprocessing, feature extraction through the CNN, and final classification using fully connected layers to categorize MRI images as normal or tumor-containing. Deep Learning (DL), a powerful subfield of Artificial Intelligence, utilizes various techniques for efficient automated learning from any data type. This project investigates the potential of DL in predicting cancer onset, specifically focusing on brain tumors. While medical imaging remains a cornerstone of brain tumor detection, interpreting these images and segmenting tumors can be challenging and subjective. Automatic detection methods powered by Deep Learning have shown promise, but there's room for improvement in accuracy and reliability. Therefore, this work aims to address the critical question: how can Deep Learning techniques be employed to enhance brain tumor detection in medical imaging? © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This paper aims to show that there exists a weak solution to the following quasilinear system driven by the M-Laplacian (Formula presented.) where Ω is a bounded open subset in R^N and (-Δ_m) is the M-Laplacian operator. Here we consider the non-reflexive case taking into account the Orlicz and Orlicz-Sobolev Space. The non-reflexive case occurs when the N-function M¯ does not verify the Δ₂-condition. We consider an approximated quasilinear elliptic problem driven by the M_ϵ-Laplacian and using the Mountain Pass Theorem to obtain the existence of a nontrivial and nonnegative solution for the above system in reflexive case. The advent of the Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies in the field of telecommunications has led to a tremendous reduction of costs as well as an increase in terms of infrastructure flexibility. Thus, equipments that play a pivotal role in telecommunications have merely been replaced by computers and their functions have accordingly been softwarized. To further reduce costs, some telecommunications carriers are now considering using decentralized grid computing-based networks to route a part of their traffic. The user-PC computer system (UPC) system is a technology for pooling and making available the unused computing resources (CPU) of the personal computers (PC) of members belonging to the same organization. For instance, in the drug discovery, economic forecasting, seismic analysis fields that deal with computationally intensive problem solving, Grid Computing has become an essential tool for building an affordable computing environment. We have previously designed an efficient static job scheduling genetic algorithm considering CPU core utilization for the UPC system. It finds an optimal assignment that minimizes the processing time of the available set of jobs in a static scenario, i.e., jobs are all available in the beginning and all worker PCs are idle. However, in reality, jobs join and leave the system dynamically and therefore, when new jobs join the system, some workers may be busy. In this paper, we propose an extension of our previously proposed static job scheduling genetic algorithm, that considers dynamic job scheduling in the UPC system. We conducted experiments using six worker PCs and up to 51 jobs. A comparative study of the results obtained using our dynamic scheduling genetic algorithm showed an improvement of about 13.67% in Makespan compared to that of the Dynamic Randomized Multi-Start Local Search (DRMSLS)-based method. © 2024 IEEE.

Image matting is a technique used to separate the foreground of an image from the background, which estimates an alpha matte that indicates pixel-wise degree of transparency. To precisely extract target objects and address the ambiguity of solutions in image matting, many existing approaches employ a trimap or background image provided by the user as additional input to guide the matting process. This article introduces a novel matting paradigm termed text-guided image matting, utilizing a textual description of the foreground object as a guiding element. In contrast to trimap or background-based methods, text-guided matting offers a user-friendly interface, providing semantic clues for the objects of interest. Moreover, it facilitates batch processing across multiple frames featuring the same objects of interest. The proposed text-guided matting approach is implemented through a deep neural network (NN) comprising three-stage cross-modal feature fusion and two-step alpha matte prediction. Experimental results on portrait matting demonstrate the competitive performance of our text-guided approach compared to existing trimap-based and background-based methods. © 2020 IEEE.

Enhancing photovoltaic energy forecasting:a progressive approach using wavelet packet decomposition

Accurate photovoltaic(PV)energy forecasting plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of PV power *** study presents a novel hybrid machine-learning(ML)model that combines Gaussian process regression with wavelet packet decomposition to forecast PV power half an hour *** proposed technique was applied to the PV energy database of a station located in Algeria and its performance was compared to that of traditional forecasting *** evaluations demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach over conventional ML methods,including Gaussian process regression,extreme learning machines,artificial neural networks and support vector machines,across all *** proposed model exhibits lower normalized root mean square error(nRMSE)(2.116%)and root mean square error(RMSE)(208.233 kW)values,along with a higher coefficient of determination(R^(2))of 99.881%.Furthermore,the exceptional performance of the model is maintained even when tested with various prediction ***,as the forecast horizon extends from 1.5 to 5.5 hours,the prediction accuracy decreases,evident by the increase in the RMSE(710.839 kW)and nRMSE(7.276%),and a decrease in R2(98.462%).Comparative analysis with recent studies reveals that our approach consistently delivers competitive or superior *** study provides empirical evidence supporting the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid ML model,suggesting its potential as a reliable tool for enhancing PV power forecasting accuracy,thereby contributing to more efficient grid management.

In crowdsourcing systems, where substantial amounts of data from various contributors are aggregated to discern reliable information, privacy concerns are often managed through differential privacy techniques. However, these systems are vulnerable to Sybil attacks, where attackers create multiple fake contributors to gain undeserved rewards. The presence of differential privacy noise complicates the detection of these fraudulent contributors, thereby reducing the accuracy of truth discovery. To address this challenge, we introduce an enhanced data mining algorithm, Truth Discovery against Sybil Attacks (TDSA). This algorithm is specifically designed to improve truth discovery by effectively mitigating Sybil attacks and reducing transmission errors in data mining contexts, utilizing machine learning clustering algorithms and lattice-based linear coding techniques. TDSA optimizes the mining process to better handle malicious data contributions and reduces errors associated with data aggregation. Experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that TDSA improves accuracy by approximately 20% compared to conventional methods lacking Sybil attack defenses, highlighting its efficacy in advanced data mining applications. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In high-risk industrial environments like nuclear power plants, precise defect identification and localization are essential for maintaining production stability and safety. However, the complexity of such a harsh environment leads to significant variations in the shape and size of the defects. To address this challenge, we propose the multivariate time series segmentation network(MSSN), which adopts a multiscale convolutional network with multi-stage and depth-separable convolutions for efficient feature extraction through variable-length templates. To tackle the classification difficulty caused by structural signal variance, MSSN employs logarithmic normalization to adjust instance distributions. Furthermore, it integrates classification with smoothing loss functions to accurately identify defect segments amid similar structural and defect signal subsequences. Our algorithm evaluated on both the Mackey-Glass dataset and industrial dataset achieves over 95% localization and demonstrates the capture capability on the synthetic dataset. In a nuclear plant's heat transfer tube dataset, it captures 90% of defect instances with75% middle localization F1 score.
