China is now confronting the intertwined challenges of air pollution and climate *** the high synergies between air pollution abatement and climate change mitigation,the Chinese government is actively promoting synergetic control of these two *** Synergetic Roadmap project was launched in 2021 to track and analyze the progress of synergetic control in China by developing and monitoring key *** Synergetic Roadmap 2022 report is the first annual update,featuring 20 indicators across five aspects:synergetic governance system and practices,progress in structural transition,air pollution and associated weather-climate interactions,sources,sinks,and mitigation pathway of atmospheric composition,and health impacts and benefits of coordinated *** to the comprehensive review presented in the 2021 report,the Synergetic Roadmap 2022 report places particular emphasis on progress in 2021 with highlights on actions in key sectors and the relevant *** milestones include the proportion of non-fossil power generation capacity surpassing coal-fired capacity for the first time,a decline in the production of crude steel and cement after years of growth,and the surging penetration of electric ***,in 2022,China issued the first national policy that synergizes abatements of pollution and carbon emissions,marking a new era for China's pollution-carbon *** changes highlight China's efforts to reshape its energy,economic,and transportation structures to meet the demand for synergetic control and sustainable ***,the country has witnessed a slowdown in carbon emission growth,improved air quality,and increased health benefits in recent years.

Selective laser melting of titanium matrix composites: An in-depth analysis of materials, microstructures, defects, and mechanical properties

This paper provides an in-depth review of the advancements and challenges associated with Titanium Matrix Composites (TMCs) in Selective Laser Melting (SLM). Material selection, SLM processing parameters, and their influence on the microstructure and properties of TMCs are discussed. The relationship between processing parameters, material characteristics, and the development of defects such as balling, porosity, and cracking is examined. Critical factors influencing the evolution of microstructure and defect formation in TMCs processed by SLM are highlighted. Strengthening mechanisms such as dislocation movements, grain refinement, the Orowan process, and load-bearing capacity are analyzed, and their roles in enhancing hardness, tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance are explored. It is indicated by key findings that less than 5 % reinforcement content by volume can significantly enhance mechanical properties, achieving maximum hardness values of approximately 1000 HV and tensile strength close to 1500 MPa. However, this improvement is accompanied by a notable decrease in elongation. The importance of optimizing SLM parameters such as laser power, scan speed, hatch distance, layer thickness, and particle contents to minimize defects and enhance material performance is underscored. Existing research gaps in defect management and material distribution are identified. Future research directions on improving TMCs performance through advanced SLM techniques are suggested. © 2024

This paper analyses the spatial variation of the deflection, and slip at the interface of two-layer composite square plate simply supported under distributed static loading. The Timoshenko model is considered and the equations are solved using the analytical methods and direct numerical simulation with Abaqus software. Two models (two-layer isotropic plate and single-layer isotropic plate) are compared in deflections, and the results obtained show that there is a good agreement between the results of the mathematical calculation and those of the numerical simulation. The geometrical and material parameters are studied and the results show that when the connection stiffness at the interface is zero, the deflection reaches its layered limit and the slip is large. These results affirm that the two-layer plate works like a single-layer plate when its deflection reaches its monolithic limit;it means that there is no slip between two layers at the contact place. © 2023, The Authors. This paper presents a metaheuristic-based temperature controller for an exothermic batch process. Developing a suitable temperature controller for an exothermic process is a challenging task because large amount of heat is released rapidly during the process. The exothermic behavior will further increase the reaction rate and cause more heat to be liberated. As the result, the improper temperature control might cause the reaction becomes unstable and consequently poses safety concern to the plant personnel and equipment. The conventional non-metaheuristic-based controller, such as fuzzy logic requires empirical data or knowledge about the total amount heat released while developing its fuzzy rules and membership functions for precision control. However, the detailed kinetic model of the heat released is unable to be obtained since there are several unobservable parameters during the process, such as the energy held in the reactor and jacket walls. Therefore, particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) is proposed as the controller to maintain the reactor temperature at the desired trajectory by manipulating the inlet jacket fluid temperature and flow rate. The simulation results show the proposed PSO produces better performances in terms of minimizing fluctuation in control actions and overshooting as compared with the conventional fuzzy logic controller. © 2019 IEEE.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is one of the commonly used technologies in Precision Farming (PF). It provides farmers with accurate real-time information on their farms. In practice, WSN consists of numerous wireless sensor nodes, where each node relies on limited energy sources such as battery to maintain its operation. The energy management issue in WSN has gained attention of scholars, leading to new protocols or schemes developed over the years. Conventionally, PEGASIS protocol selects chain leader without considering the distance and residual energy level of each sensor node. As such, it might increase the energy consumption rate to transmit collected data from sensor node to sink. Inadequate energy management leads to rapid energy drain and eventually shorten the lifespan of WSN. Therefore, this study aims to prolong the lifespan of WSN while minimizing the energy consumption. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to enhance the chain leader selection scheme of the conventional PEGASIS. The proposed GA will select optimum chain leader by considering the energy consumption rate of each node. As such, the proposed algorithm is able to increase node's transmission as well as improve the lifespan of WSN by 50% as compared to the conventional approach. © 2020 IEEE.

Energy-efficient optimization algorithm in wireless sensor network (WSN) is often based on solely cluster routing or multi-hop routing. The cluster optimization algorithm will form a cluster network by dividing the sensor nodes into few clusters where each cluster has a cluster head (CH) for data collection. On the other hand, multi-hop optimization algorithm will form a multi-hop network by transmitting data to base station (BS) through data multi-hopping between sensor nodes. However, cluster optimization algorithm suffers from the overburdens of CH nodes, while multi-hop optimization algorithm suffers from the overburdens of nodes which are near to the BS. Therefore, Genetic Algorithm-Cuckoo Search (GACS) is proposed and developed based on the multi-hop clustering model in this paper. GACS optimizes both intra-cluster and inter-cluster communications to enhance energy efficiency in WSN, extending the network lifetime. Based on the performance evaluation, GACS outperforms both Genetic Algorithm (GA)-based cluster optimization algorithm and Cuckoo Search (CS)-based multi-hop optimization algorithm. © 2020 IEEE.

Hydrologists in developing countries face a major challenge due to the lack of ground data. This study evaluates the performance of the monthly Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) algorithm 3B43 V7 using 172 ground rainfall measurement stations (GRMS) over Morocco (1998–2018). The performance of the TRMM 3B43 V7 was assessed using four well-known metrics (KGE, R², PBIAS, and RSR). The evaluation was undertaken based on (1) a point-to-pixel scale, (2) sub-regions of Morocco, (3) climatic zones, and (4) different ranges of altitudes. Results indicate that the TRMM 3B43 V7 provides satisfactory attribution in most regions of Morocco, with an average R² higher than 0.54, except in the south areas, which have the lowest R² between 0.29 and 0.41. The best R² of 0.95 was observed in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. The other performance criteria (KGE: 0.93, RSR: 0.21, PBIAS: − 5.5) indicate that TRMM 3B43 V7 is consistent with in situ data but slightly underestimated. At the point-to-pixel scale, KGE and R² show that 61% and 52% of stations present satisfactory to good results, respectively. The PBIAS shows a large overestimation over most parts of Morocco, particularly the southern part. TRMM 3B43V7 performs better in the Mediterranean climate than in other climatic zones. TRMM 3B43 V7 harmonises GRMS slightly in low elevation zones, while average PBIAS show a global overestimation, increasing in high and low elevations. The results of this study confirm that TRMM 3B43 V7 provides a vital baseline tool to assist Moroccan Hydraulic Basin agencies. Study on Effects of Operation Parameters on Ventilation Performances for a Floor-Standing Air Conditioner

The floor-standing air conditioners (FSACs) have been widely used in civil and office buildings because of its advantages of high cooling/heating capacity and easy installation. The major challenge of FSACs is to meet the requirements of thermal comfort and indoor air quality (IAQ) while the operation energy consumption should be minimized. This study extensively examines the effects of some key operation parameters on the FSAC performance using validated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. The operation parameters include controllable supply vane angle, supply air velocity, supply air temperature, and uncontrollable outdoor weather condition. The main ventilation performance is assessed by indices such as predicted mean vote (PMV), predicted percent dissatisfied (PPD), draught rate (DR), local mean age of air (LMAA), and energy consumption (P system ). The relative importance of the operation parameters for each ventilation performance index is identified through evaluating the individual effects of the operation parameters on the ventilation performance. By comparing the individual effects and combined effects of the operation parameters on the ventilation performance, it is found that the variations of PMV, PPD, DR, LMAA and P system caused by the combined effects can be accounted by the corresponding most important operation parameters by 90.6%, 97.4%, 77.1%, 95.1% and 79.2%, respectively. Additionally, the outdoor weather conditions do not significantly affect DR, PPD and LMAA, but can shift PMV to uncomfortable levels. Finally, the constant-air-volume (CAV) system is recommended for FSACs during the steady stage and a simplified and optimized operation strategy is proposed. © 2022, The Authors. Ionic rare earth ore is a type of featured rare earth ore in China. Its mining process suffers from a long leaching cycle and considerable consumption of leaching agents. Improving mining efficiency requires a sound physical understanding of the leaching process. In this study, the CFD-based numerical model is used to analyze the physical process of leaching through porous media formed by particles. The simulation results indicate that a lower packing porosity and smaller particles packed granular porous medium result in much larger energy dissipation during seepage, and the energy dissipation increases with seepage velocity. It is found that when the seepage velocity increases to a certain high value, the energy dissipation exceeds the value predicted by Darcy's law, which is mainly caused by liquid turbulence. Additionally, the effect of particle shape is examined. The results show that the granular medium composed of prolate particles causes larger energy dissipation than oblate particles, and spherical particles play the least role. This phenomenon may result from the particle shape affecting the area of the frontal contact surface between particles and liquid.
