This paper explores the need for weed detection in agricultural landscapes, where weed infestations pose significant crop productivity challenges. To address this matter, computer vision techniques are utilised to create a weed detection algorithm that accurately detects weed patches inside agricultural field images. To ensure reliable model evaluation, the dataset is split into training and testing subsets before being fed into the YOLOv3 model. The YOLOv3 model performs well in terms of precision, with an average precision of 66.4% for crop regions and a notable precision of 92.5% for detecting weeds. These results highlight the potential of artificial intelligence-driven weed detection techniques to optimize crop management practices and foster sustainable agriculture in the modern era. This research advances precision agriculture by effectively addressing weed infestations, paving the way for more efficient and targeted weed control strategies, which ultimately lead to increased crop yield and improved agricultural sustainability. © 2023 IEEE.

Photovoltaic systems generate direct current (DC) power by absorbing sunlight through photovoltaic cells. However, under non-uniform irradiance, multiple peaks in the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) pose challenges for precisely tracking the global maximum power point. Traditional methods often focus on local maximum power points instead of the global ones. This research aims to enhance the Perturb and Observe (P&O) approach and model the PV module to accurately track the Maximum Power Point (MPP). The study investigates the performance of PV arrays using models with non-uniform characteristics. While traditional MPPT techniques like perturb and observe (P&O) can track the MPP, they struggle with non-uniform irradiance, leading to output power fluctuations and losses. simulation results demonstrate that the P&O-based MPPT algorithm, tailored for maximum power production, adjusts the operational point effectively. Comparing the conventional MPPT output voltage 17.8V under non-uniform irradiance of conventional P&O MPPT output voltage and a non-conventional Fuzzy Logic 33.8V under non-uniform irradiance indicates that the Fuzzy MPPT achieves 52.66% of the output voltage obtained by the non-conventional MPPT comparing to conventional MPPT. These algorithms offer improved precision and flexibility, although their implementation may require higher processing power and computational capabilities. Therefore, the next focus will be on developing a fuzzy logic based MPPT and enhancing the photovoltaic system.

Spouted bed has drawn much attention due to its good heat and mass transfer efficiency in many chemical *** the flow patterns and heat and mass transfer inside a spouted bed can help optimize the spouting ***,in this study,the effects of particle shape on the hydrodynamics and heat transfer in a spouted bed are *** is done by using a validated computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method(CFD-DEM)model,considering volume-equivalent spheres and oblate and prolate *** results are analysed in detail in terms of the flow pattern,microstruc-ture,and heat transfer *** numerical results show that the prolate spheroids(Ar=2.4)form the largest bubble from the beginning of the spouting process and rise the highest because the fluid drag forces can overcome the interlocking and particle-particle frictional *** with spherical particles,ellipsoidal spheroids have better mobility because of the stronger rotational kinetic energy resulting from the rough surfaces and nonuniform *** addition,the oblate spheroid system exhibits better heat transfer performance benefiting from the larger surface area,while prolate spheroids have poor heat transfer efficiency because of their orientation *** findings can serve as a reference for optimizing the design and operation of complex spouted beds.

Keyhole instability during laser welding and laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) can cause keyhole collapse and pore formation. Using high-speed x-ray imaging, we demonstrate that the flow vortex-induced protrusion on the rear keyhole wall is crucial in initiating keyhole instability. Applying a transverse magnetic field suppresses the keyhole instability by driving a secondary thermoelectric magnetohydrodynamics (TEMHD) flow that alters the net flow vortex. This minimizes protrusions and large-amplitude keyhole oscillations. The suppression effectiveness depends on the laser scanning direction relative to the magnetic field orientation because this controls the Seebeck effect-induced Lorentz force's direction. We show that at LPBF length scales, electromagnetic damping is weak, and for alloys with a large Seebeck coefficient, TEMHD becomes the dominant mechanism controlling flow behind the keyhole.

Renewable energy is gaining more popularity recently. Tidal currents are driven by two different connected bodies trying to equalize their level differences, hence there will be a flow of water from the high-pressure head to the low-pressure head. It is this kind of water flow that makes tidal current suitable for power generation. The main advantage of tidal power is that it can be forecasted easily. Aside from that, sea water has higher density as compared to air, therefore for the same amount of power, the power can be generated at a lower speed. The tidal current model is composed of a permanent magnet synchronous generator, tidal velocity profile, and another two sub-systems. This model is simulated in Matlab. The resultant tidal velocity is made up of 5 different partial tides. The tidal current turbine model is tested with different inputs of pitch angle and tidal current speed. The results show that the maximum generated output power is 295kW when the pitch angle is 2.77°. Furthermore, the higher the tidal current speed, the higher the generated output power. Aside from that, as the pitch angle is gradually increased while keeping the tidal speed constant, the power coefficient will decrease. Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithm which is based on Perturb and Observe (PO) is used to locate the maximum power coefficient of the system. It can track the maximum power coefficient successfully but there will be oscillation at the steady state. Cuckoo Search via Levy Flight is able to overcome this problem as there will be no oscillation at steady state and this can prevent power loss. The convergence of Cuckoo Search via Levy Flight is two times faster than PO. © 2021 IEEE.

Wireless multi-hop transmission is a new technology that has been used for data transfer in no internet connectivity and electricity area. Wireless sensor networks are being created for many different purposes, both for everyday civilian uses and military applications. Multi-hop transmissions are popular with challenges like shape of terrain, low data transfer rate and loss connectivity easily when it comes to design. The main problem is current control for routing in multi-hop wireless sensor networks works as what it has been initialized and the nodes only communicate with preset nodes. Malfunction of a single transceiver can cause connection losses and decrease network reliability. This report will explore the optimization of multi-hop wireless communication by implementing ACO in omnidirectional transceiver. The aim is to develop wireless sensor network model, compute control strategy for routing in random topology, to optimize wireless transmission by implementing artificial intelligence and analyze the performance of proposed algorithm. To achieved these goals, a simulation has been designed in MATLAB to represent the real situation virtually. Several parameters such as number of nodes, area size and transmission range must be considered in the simulation to get optimum result. Conventional routing protocol such as Distance-Vector is used as a comparison to ACO control strategy with the help of Euclidean distance formula. This project focus on optimizing routing strategy from source node to target node without considering pathloss and line of sight. Then, the results are performance comparison of Distance-Vector, Randomized Multi-Path and Ant Colony Optimization in 100 iterations. After simulation, Ant Colony Optimization does improve Distance-Vector by increasing network lifetime with 1st ‘dead node’ appear at 100th iteration but still maintaining as least average hops path as possible. The synchronous solutions are derived and their stability conditions are also explored using the averaging method. The results of this analytical investigation are confirmed later by numerical simulations. The effects of some physical parameters on the self-synchronization of DC motors are presented. The impact of the nonlinear coupling between the floors on the DC motors dynamics is also explored. The Sommerfeld effect appearing in the system is reduced by taking into account the damping coming from the environment and the coupling between the portal frame. It is observed that in-phase synchronization of the non-ideal sources assures low amplitude of vibration in the different floors compared to opposite-phase synchronization. © 2024, The Authors. The present paper proposes a new device where it is observed the self-synchronization between two unbalanced DC motors with a limited power supply when they are indirectly coupled. The vibrating system studied consists of two portal frames type shear buildings coupled, carrying each an unbalanced DC motor. The engines are supposed to rotate in the same direction and act on each as external excitation. The dynamics investigations are done with analytical and numerical methods to achieve this purpose. The synchronous solutions are derived and their stability conditions are also explored using the averaging method. The rapid advancement of information technologies, such as cloud computing, internet of things (loT), and big data, has significantly enhanced the intelligence level in dam construction. Intelligent monitoring systems for dam filling have garnered considerable attention from water conservancy and hydropower engineering units, owing to their capability for refined management and quality control of layered and compartmentalized construction processes. The construction of earth-rock dams has undergone a transformation, shifting from manual management of dam compaction equipment, layer management, and quality control to a comprehensive intelligent approach. This new approach encompasses fine-grained control of unit engineering, dam material identification, unmanned driving technology, real-time assessment and monitoring of compaction quality, and early warning forecasting. This article presents a systematic overview of key technologies employed in the intelligent construction process of earth-rock dams. These technologies include the fine decomposition of building information modeling (BIM) models on web platforms, rapid identification of dam material particle size, the application of autonomous driving technology for intelligent dam filling, and real-time monitoring and evaluation of dam compaction characteristics. Additionally, the paper discusses the latest research results in the field, building upon existing technology progress, and concludes by exploring the future development trends of intelligent dam construction. The construction of intelligent earth-rock dams serve as a crucial reference and valuable lessons for the development and construction of high earth-rock dam projects.

Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) estimates the electrical impedance distribution within a medium and produces cross-sectional images of an admittivity distribution inside an electrically conducting object. EIT in biomedicine application was first applied in lung due to it being large organs that allow large conductivity changes and is a promising technique since it allows continuous monitoring of the ventilation distribution. This study aims to explore the potential EIT technique in medical applications, with strategies to enhance the image reconstruction of the lung images. Performance of the enhanced image reconstruction is analyzed through simulation on the thorax Finite Element Model (FEM) based on a thorax CT image generated using NETGEN Mesher. To integrate and simulate EIT image of the thorax model, data are obtained from the forward and inverse model. Graz consensus Reconstruction algorithm for EIT (GREIT) technique is then applied as the consensus linear reconstruction algorithm for lung EIT images. Subsequently, the involvement of 3D imaging opens the opportunity to explore more electrode placement strategies for enhancement in image reconstruction. Performance of the reconstructed images based on electrode numbers and placement strategies are analyzed using the five figures of merits and classified into poor, average and good using Fuzzy Logic (FL). From the analysis, planar-offset configuration with 16-electrodes outperforms all others while planar configuration with 16-electrodes followed closely. © 2021 IEEE.
