To find near-duplicate documents, fingerprint-based para-digms such as Broder's shingling and Charikar's simhash algorithms have been recognized as effective approaches and are considered the state-of-the-art. Nevertheless, we see two aspects of these approaches which may be improved. First, high score under these algorithms' similarity measurement implies high probability of similarity between documents, which is different from high similarity of the documents. But how similar two documents are is what we really need to know. Second, there has to be a tradeoff between hash-code length and hash-code multiplicity in fingerprint paradigms, which makes it hard to maintain a satisfactory recall level while improving precision. In this paper our contributions are two-folded. First, we propose a framework for implementing the longest common subsequence (LCS) as a similarity measurement in reason-able computing time, which leads to both high precision and recall. Second, we present an algorithm to get a trustable partition from the LCS to reduce the negative impact from templates used in web page design. A comprehensive exper-iment was conducted to evaluate our method in terms of its effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of result. More specifi-cally, the method has been successfully used to partition a set of 430 million web pages into 68 million subsets of simi-lar pages, which demonstrates its effectiveness. For quality, we compared our method with simhash and a Cosine-based method through a sampling process (Cosine is compared to LCS as an alternative similarity measurement). The result showed that our algorithm reached an overall precision of 0.95 while simhash was 0.71 and Cosine was 0.82. At the same time our method obtains 1.86 times as much recall as simhash and 1.56 times as much recall as Cosine. Compar-ison experiment was also done for documents in the same web sites. A web crawling system employing a parallel and distributed architecture needs to have a mechanism to bring the whole system in a coordinated state when the nodes are added to or removed from the system. This paper presents an efficient dynamic reconfiguration model that can be used in such a system. The study shows that this model leads to some nice properties, such as load balance and low traffic in the system, which contribute to high performance. Currently this model is being implemented in WebGather, a well-known Chinese and English web search engine.

The integration of post-wimp computer interfaces arises as an alternative to meet individual limitations of each one, considering both interaction components and feedbacks to users. Tangible interfaces can present restrictions referring to physical space on tabletop architectures, which limits the manipulation of objects and deprecates the interactive process. Hence, this paper proposes the integration of techniques of mobile Augmented Reality with tabletop tangible architecture for blending real and virtual components on its surface, aiming to make the interactive process richer, seamless and more complete. © 2012 ACM.

Overlapping Reconfiguration is currently the most efficient method to reconfigure an interconnection network, but is only valid for systems that apply distributed routing. This paper proposes a solution which enables utilization of Overlapping Reconfiguration in a source routed environment. We demonstrate how a synchronized injection of tokens has a significant impact on the performance of the method. Furthermore, we propose and evaluate an optimization of the original algorithm that reduces (and in some cases even eliminates) performance issues caused by the token forwarding regime, such as increased latency and decreased throughput.

One of the major constraints of wireless sensor networks is limited energy available to sensor nodes because of the small size of the batteries they use as source of power. Clustering is one of the routing techniques that have been using to minimize sensor nodes’ energy consumption during operation. In this paper, A Novel Clustering Algorithm for Energy Efficiency in Wireless Sensor networks (ANCAEE) has been proposed. The algorithm achieves good performance in terms of minimizing energy consumption during data transmission and energy consumptions are distributed uniformly among all nodes. ANCAEE uses a new method of clusters formation and election of cluster heads. The algorithm ensures that a node transmits its data to the cluster head with a single hop transmission and cluster heads forward their data to the base station with multi-hop transmissions. Simulation results show that our approach consumes less energy and effectively extends network utilization.

It is important for an incremental crawler to know how web pages evolve and the relation between their changing frequencies and the link-attributes such as indegrees. This paper proposes a model for incremental crawling and performs an experiment to verify the correlation between them, by monitoring the evolution of all the link-attributes of the web pages within one website. Particularly, we look deeply into one special kind of page named Index-pages. From the experiment, we can make four conclusions: (1) Pages which have bigger indegrees, outdegrees or PageRank values change more often, and these link-attributes all approximately obey a power-law distribution. (2) The link-attributes of pages seldom change though the pages change themselves. (3) A small proportion of the pages link to most of the vertexes in the web graph. (4) The Index-pages link to sizeable new pages in a website. These conclusions can be used to greatly enhance the performance of an incremental crawler, which is the foremost component for general search engines and web information stores.

Reliable internet access is a key enabler for economic growth. Although the Philippine government launched initiatives to improve connectivity, connection speeds remained below the global average, especially for mobile networks. This paper presents Hotspotter, a system that aims to aid implementers and stakeholders in quantifying and addressing network coverage issues. Hotspotter is an incentivized crowdsensing system that collects, maps, and visualizes WiFi and cellular data to pinpoint hotspots and dead zones for the effective deployment and relocation of WiFi access points. A mobile application for Android was developed to facilitate data collection on geolocation, nearby WiFi access points, and connected cellular networks. The user interface visualizes the aggregated data in a hexagon-grid map. Fieldwork was conducted in two sitios of Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray, Bulacan to stress-test the Hotspotter system in a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA). It was found that 2G and 4G had the widest coverage and strongest signals overall, with modal signal strengths of 4.0 and 3.0, respectively. Being at the cutting edge, 5G was not yet supported. In the end, the mobile application’s passive sensing, collecting, and caching of data successfully operated even in the most isolated areas without an internet connection.

In this paper, we propose a static scheduling algorithm forassigning tasks with precedence constraints onto a cluster of heterogeneoussensor nodes connected by a single-hop wireless network so as tomaximize the lifetime of the sensor network. The processing element oneach sensor node is equipped with dynamic voltage scaling capability. Inour algorithm, we assign the tasks to the sensor nodes so as to minimizethe energy consumption of the tasks on each sensor node while keepingthe energy consumption as balanced as possible. We also propose an algorithmto generate a second schedule that can improve the lifetime ofthe network further when it is used together with the original *** observe up to 311% lifetime improvement in our simulations whenour algorithms are compared to the baseline case where dynamic voltagescaling is not used.

The paper deals with the issues of ensuring the safety of objects in the intelligent transport environment (ITE). A general scheme and a symbolic description of implementing negative impacts (NI) in the ITE are presented. The concept of an integrated model for implementing NI in ITE, which is the basis for developing a safety monitor, is presented. For the complex model it is proposing the information and navigation model of the state and location of unmanned vehicles (UVs) in an intelligent transport (smart city) environment. The structure and the description of information and navigation elements (units and modules of the navigation subsystem) of the UVs, as well as a scheme of using data for local and global navigation in the UVs, are presented. The basic structural elements of information and navigation support of a smart city, types and layers of interaction, possible communication technologies and systems, and information support infrastructure are described. The synthesized information and navigation model for the UVs in the smart city environment is proposed. © 2023 IEEE.

A very important ingredient in the computing landscape isUtility Computing Data Centres (UCDCs), large-scale computing systemsthat offer computational services to concurrently running jobsthrough virtual servers. As UCDC systems increase in size and the meantime between failure decreases, it is becoming an increasingly importantchallenge to expediently tolerate failures (dynamically), while distributingthe effects of the failure amongst the virtual servers according to theirservice level agreements. We propose and evaluate a strategy for offeringpredictable service in fat-trees experiencing faults, by reprioritisingpackets. The strategy is able to distribute the effect of network faults inorder to satisfy a number of quality-of-service demands. Which demandsto favour depends on the computer system and the characteristics of thejobs it is running, and in the presence of a moderate number of faults itis to some degree possible to meet the demands.
