Distributed Estimation over Analog Fading Channels Using Constant-Gain Estimators

This paper considers the distributed estimation of an unstable target via constant-gain estimators under local communications and channel fading. The communication graph is assumed to be fixed and undirected, and the channel fading is assumed to be identical. Necessary and sufficient conditions on communication network over which the state of the unstable target can be estimated in the mean square sense are given for both continuous-time and discrete-time cases, which reveal the fundamental limitation on distributed estimation induced by local communications, channel fading, and target dynamics. In addition, our results for the case without channel fading and the case with separate communications are consistent with the results in the literature.

Modeling of batch process based on higher order partial least squares

The products of batch processes are closely related to the daily life of modern people, and it is crucial for batch process monitoring to establish a model based on the normal process data sets. In this paper, according to the characteristics of batch process, a new generalized multilinear regression model, termed the higher order partial least squares (HOPLS), is introduced with the aim to better model the three-way batch data. It differs substantially from the traditional modeling approach, and instead of unfolding the three-way array to a two-way array, it explains the data by a sum of orthogonal Tucker tensors. Higher order orthogonal iteration (HOSVD), tensor transformation and higher order orthogonal iteration (HOOI) are used to find the latent vectors, which contain the maximum information of independent variables and dependent variables simultaneously. And the loading vectors are calculated at the same time. For the new observation values, the dependent variables will be predicted through the output of the model. Finally, the feasibility and efficiency of the method are verified through the PenSim2.0 simulation platform. © All Rights Reserved

Hybrid route to produce acrylic acid from sugarcane molasses

This work presents the synthesis of acrylic acid by hybrid route from sugarcane molasses fermentation and later acid lactic dehydration. Lactic acid was produced by sugarcane molasses fermentation using the Lactobacillus plantarum CCT 5731 bacteria in bioreactor BioFlo 415 at 37 °C. After of 46.4 h of fermentation 50.6 g/L of lactic acid was obtained with productivity of 1.1 g/L.h which was subsequently concentred to 152 g/L and stored to dehydration stage. Both commercial lactic acid and lactic acid obtained through fermentation stage were dehydrated by catalysts supported on basic zeolite (NaY) in a tubular reactor at 300 °C and continuous flow of CO2 (30 mL/min). The largest selectivity (25.7 %) for acrylic acid was obtained when the commercial lactic acid and KBr/NaY were used. When lactic acid obtained by fermentation a maximum acrylic acid selectivity of 16.7 % was achieved using KI/NaY. In order to separate the chromatogram peaks and spectra from the High Performance Liquid Chromatography with Diode Array Detector (HPLC-DAD) data set, a separation model of Generalized Reference Curve Measurement and its solution by multi-target Bare Bones Particle Swarm optimization (GRCMmBBPSO) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, parameters are constructed which will generate Reference Curves (RCs) for chromatogram peaks. Secondly, the GRCM model is proposed to transform all these parameters to scalar values, which indicate the possibility for the HPLC-DAD data set containing chromatogram peaks similar to the RCs constructed by corresponding parameters. Then, the algorithm of mBBPSO is introduced to calculate the optimal parameters by minimizing the scalar values. Finally, the spectra are estimated. Through simulations and experiments, following conclusions are drawn: (1) the GRCMmBBPSO method can extract chromatogram peaks from the simulation data set without knowing the number of the compounds in advance even when a severe overlap and white noise exist;(2) the GRCMmBBPSO method can be applied to real HPLC-DAD data set.

In this paper,we developed a hybrid model for the steam turbines of a utility system,which combines an improved neural network model with the thermodynamic ***,a nonlinear programming(NLP) model of the steam turbine network is formulated by utilizing the developed steam turbine models to minimize the total steam cost for the whole steam turbine ***,this model is applied to optimize the steam turbine network of an ethylene *** obtained results demonstrate that this hybrid model can accurately estimate and evaluate the performance of steam turbines,and the significant cost savings can be made by optimizing the steam turbine network operation at no capital cost.

This paper focuses on the problem of adaptive output feedback stabilization for a class of stochastic nonlinear system with unknown control *** using a linear state transformation,the unknown control coefficients are lumped together, such that the original system is transformed to a new system for which control design becomes *** employing the inputdriven observer,a novel adaptive neural network(NN) output-feedback controller which only contains one adaptive parameter is developed for such systems by using backstepping technique and NNs' *** proposed control design guarantees that all the signals in the closed-loop systems are 4-moment semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded.

The major problem associated with the bioconversion of ethanol for industrial fuel purposes is the ethanol inhibition in the fermentation process. One way to solve this problem is couple fermentation to a continuous product removal technique. The gas stripping in situ removal process has a number of advantages over other techniques, for example: it is simple, inexpensive to operate and do not harm the culture. In this work, the feasibility of in situ gas stripping fermentation process was studied using ASPEN PLUS® V.7.3. The process conditions were evaluated according to the existing laboratory scale design. The main process variables were investigated in order to achieve the best conditions to carry out an experimental plant, which is the planning of further work. The results show that such technique can lower ethanol concentration in a reactor making it below of inhibitory ranges. A correct choice of the optimized variables of the process provides a larger recovery of ethanol, contributing to the improvement and intensification of the fermentation process. This paper studies the state feedback stabilization of LTI plants over wireless block-fading channels. The packet-loss rate of each channel depends on power level and packet length used for transmission as well as channel power gain. Different from the case of fixed packet-loss rate, the packet-loss rate considered in this paper is random and time-varying as the channel power gain is so for wireless communication. When power level and packet length are assumed to be time-invariant for every transmission at each channel, necessary and sufficient conditions for mean square stabilizability via state feedback are given in terms of the unstable poles of the plant. The performance defined as the asymptotic mean square norm of the system state is also discussed for the scalar case.

An improved discrete artificial bee colony algorithm for hybrid flow shop problems

Being a typical NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem, the hybrid flow shop (HFS) problem widely exists in manufacturing systems. In this paper, we firstly establish the model of the HFS problem by employing the vector representation. Then an improved discrete artificial bee colony (IDABC) algorithm is proposed for this problem to minimize the makespan. In the IDABC algorithm, a novel differential evolution and a modified variable neighborhood search are studied to generating new solutions for the employed and onlooker bees. The destruction and construction procedures are utilized to obtain solutions for the scout bees. The simulation results clearly imply that the proposed IDABC algorithm is highly effective and efficient as compared to six state-of-the-art algorithms on the same benchmark instances. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.
