Sparse matrix vector multiplication (SpMV) is used in many scientific computations. The main bottleneck of this algorithm is memory bandwidth and many methods reduce memory bandwidth usage by compressing the index array. The matrices from finite difference modeling applications often have several dense diagonals and sparse diagonals. For these matrices, the index array can be deleted by using diagonal storage format (DIA) to store dense diagonals and DIA & CSR mixed algorithm. In this paper we propose two improved sparse matrix storage format based on DIA format and the corresponding SpMV algorithms. We present the performance results on two platforms, which show that our method can reduce the memory usage for a wide range of sparse matrices and achieve speedup up to 1.87. © 2010 IEEE.

Perspectives of China's HPC system development:a view from the 2009 China HPC TOP100 list

The China HPC TOP100 list, an annual report of the 100 most powerful high performance computing (HPC) systems installed in mainland China, has traced the rapid growth of HPC technology in China since its first publication in 2002. This paper introduces the China HPC TOP100 list and reviews the current status of HPC systems in China in terms of system features, manufactures, and areas of application using the data reported in the most recent list, published on November 1st, 2009. We provide further analysis, prediction of future trends, and directions of the development of HPC systems in China referencing historical data accumulated through archived TOP100 lists and other publically available *** predict that the aggregated Linpack performance of the top 100 HPC systems will reach 10 PFlops in 2011, a single system with 10 PFlops peak performance will appear between 2012 and 2013, the aggregated performance of the top 100 systems will reach 100 PFlops in 2014, and a single system with 100 PFlops peak performance will appear around 2015.

A new class of three-variable orthogonal polynomials and their recurrences relations

A new class of three-variable orthogonal polynomials, defined as eigenfunctions of a second order PDE operator, is studied. These polynomials are orthogonal over a curved tetrahedron region, which can be seen as a mapping from a traditional tetrahedron, and can be taken as an extension of the 2-D Steiner domain. The polynomials can be viewed as Jacobi polynomials on such a domain. Three-term relations are derived explicitly. The number of the individual terms, involved in the recurrences relations, are shown to be independent on the total degree of the polynomials. The numbers now are determined to be five and seven, with respect to two conjugate variables z, $ \bar z $ and a real variable r, respectively. Three examples are discussed in details, which can be regarded as the analogues of the Chebyshev polynomials of the first and the second kinds, and Legendre polynomials.

Solving multi-objective constrained minimum weighted bipartite assignment problem: a case study on energy-aware radio broadcast scheduling

This paper proposes a multi-objective constrained minimum weighted bipartite assignment problem(MCMWBAP), which is considered an extension of the classical bipartite matching problem(BMP). We first provide the formulation of the MCMWBAP and prove that it is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. Based on this formulation, multi-objective energy-aware shortwave radio broadcast resource allocation problem(MSRBRAP) application is studied. The goal of this problem is to allocate radio programs to transmission devices to broadcast all radio programs felicitously with a maximized objective of total qualified monitoring sites and a minimized objective of energy consumption. Then, a novel multi-objective hybrid evolutionary algorithm(MOHEA), which is integrated with push and pull initialization, the dynamic resource allocation strategy, and the aggregate local search procedure, is developed to solve the *** proposed method is evaluated using two categories of benchmarks for MCMWBAP together with a real scenario case study for MSRBRAP. Furthermore, the key components of MOHEA are analyzed, and the experimental results demonstrate that MOHEA outperforms two classical multi-objective evolutionary algorithms(NSGA-II and MOEA/D), improving working efficiency.

Constrained counting is important in domains ranging from artificial intelligence to software analysis. There are already a few approaches for counting models over various types of constraints. Recently, hashing-based approaches achieve success but still rely on solution enumeration. In the IJCAR version, a probabilistic approximate model counter is proposed, which is also a hashing-based universal framework, but with only satisfiability queries. A dynamic stopping criteria, for the algorithm, is presented, which has not been studied yet in previous works of hashing-based approaches. Although the algorithm lacks theoretical guarantee, it works well in practice. In this paper, we further extend our approach to SMT(LIA) formulas with a new encoding technique. © 2018 CEUR-WS. Jacobi-Sobolev Orthogonal Polynomialsand Spectral Methods for Elliptic Boundary Value Problems

Generalized Jacobi polynomials with indexes α,β∈ R are introduced and some basic properties are established. As examples of applications,the second- and fourth-order elliptic boundary value problems with Dirichlet or Robin boundary conditions are considered,and the generalized Jacobi spectral schemes are proposed. For the diagonalization of discrete systems,the Jacobi-Sobolev orthogonal basis functions are constructed,which allow the exact solutions and the approximate solutions to be represented in the forms of infinite and truncated Jacobi series. Error estimates are obtained and numerical results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness and the spectral accuracy.

Investigation on Discontinuous Galerkin Solvers for Different Simulations

Discontinuous Galerkin(DG) method has been successfully used in time dependent simulations. This paper will investigate DG solvers for di_erent simulations. They are compressible flow and electromagnetic wave simulations. The compressible flow simulation needs to solve the Euler equation, while electromagnetic wave simulation needs to solve the Maxwell's equations. Two solvers have been studied in deep separately. All solvers apply domain decomposition method for the parallelization, and they both show the advantages of DG method: easy parallelization and good scalability. Verifications will be shown on simple geometries in detail for both cases, and at last a wakefield simulation ha been shown with electromagnetic time domain solver.

Alloy-induced reduction and anisotropy change of lattice thermal conductivity in Ruddlesden–Popper phase halide perovskites

The effective modulation of the thermal conductivity of halide perovskites is of great importance in optimizing their optoelectronic device *** on first-principles lattice dynamics calculations,we found that alloying at the B and X sites can significantly modulate the thermal transport properties of 2D Ruddlesden−Popper(RP)phase halide perovskites,achieving a range of lattice thermal conductivity values from the lowest(κ_(c)=0.05 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1)@Cs_(4)AgBiI_(8))to the highest(κ_(a/b)=0.95 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1)@Cs4NaBiCl_(4)I_(4)).Compared with the pure RP-phase halide perovskites and three-dimensional halide perovskite alloys,the two-dimensional halide perovskite introduces more phonon branches through alloying,resulting in stronger phonon branch coupling,which effectively scatters phonons and reduces thermal *** can also dramatically regulate the thermal transport anisotropy of RP-phase halide perovskites,with the anisotropy ratio ranging from 1.22 to ***,analysis of the phonon transport modes in these structures revealed that the lower phonon velocity and shorter phonon lifetime were the main reasons for their low thermal *** work further reduces the lattice thermal conductivity of 2D pure RP-phase halide perovskites by alloying methods and provides a strong support for theoretical guidance by gaining insight into the interesting phonon transport phenomena in these compounds.

Superior Mechanical Properties of GaAs Driven by Lattice Nanotwinning

Gallium arsenide(GaAs),a typical covalent semiconductor,is widely used in the electronic industry,owing to its superior electron transport ***,its brittle nature is a drawback that has so far significantly limited its *** exploration of the structural deformation modes of GaAs under large strain at the atomic level,and the formulation of strategies to enhance its mechanical properties is highly *** stressstrain relations and deformation modes of single-crystal and nanotwinned GaAs under various loading conditions are systematically investigated,using first-principles *** results show that the ideal strengths of nanotwinned GaAs are 14% and 15% higher than that of single-crystal GaAs under pure and indentation shear strains,respectively,without producing a significantly negative effect in terms of its electronic *** enhancement in strength stems from the rearrangement of directional covalent bonds at the twin *** results offer a fundamental understanding of the mechanical properties of single crystal GaAs,and provide insights into the strengthening mechanism of nanotwinned GaAs,which could prove highly beneficial in terms of developing reliable electronic devices.
