This paper proposes a novel fast architecture for two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform by using lifting scheme. The parallel and embedded decimation techniques are employed to optimize the architecture, which is mainly composed of two horizontal filter modules and one vertical filter module, working in parallel and pipeline fashion with 100% hardware utilization. The architecture is designed to generate two outputs at one working clock cycle, with every two subbands coefficients alternately. The total time of computing J levels of decomposition for N×N image is approximately 2N2(I-4 J)/3 clock cycles. In comparison with the other devices reported in previous literature, the design has many advantages including lower hardware complexity and area and power efficient. The design is also fast, regular and simple, as well as well suited for VLSI implementation. © 2004 IEEE.

to improve the clarity of objects in a dark-light environment, and to facilitate the identification and detection of targets behind. People perceive the color and brightness of a point not only depending on the pixel value of the point but also the absolute light entering the human eye is related to the color and brightness around the point. The self-calibration model we used considers the surrounding information, which avoids the information pollution, such as large regions of dark background information. In this model, we introduce a heterogeneous convolution filter, which makes reasonable use of different parts of the filter. Through this operation, information from multiple different scale spaces can be fused, and the field of view when applying the convolution layer is greatly increased without increasing the hyper-parameters, thus producing a more distinctive feature representation. Then the self-calibration model is combined with the backbone reinforcement network, which can not only retain the information of the original scale space but also efficiently collect the latent space information to guide the feature transformation in the original space. After the different channels of the image are processed separately, the dependency between the channels can be established by using the heterogeneous convolution filter. Finally, the test on the ExDark data set proves that our dark target enhancement effect has been significantly improved. © 2022 IEEE.

Efficient VLSI architectures for multi-dimensional (m-D) discrete wavelet transform (DWT), e.g. m=2, 3, are presented, in which the lifting scheme of DWT is used to reduce efficiently hardware complexity. The parallelism of 2 m subbands transforms in lifting-based m-D DWT is explored, which increases efficiently the throughput rate of separable m-D DWT. The proposed architecture is composed of m2m-1 1-D DWT modules working in parallel and pipelined, which is designed to process 2m input samples per clock cycle, and generate 2m subbands coefficients synchronously. The total time of computing one level of decomposition for a 2-D image (3-D image sequence) of size N2 (MN2) is approximately N2/4 (MN2/8) intra- clock cycles (ccs). An efficient line-based architecture framework for both 2D+t and t+2D 3-D DWT is first proposed. Compared with the similar works reported in previous literature, the proposed architecture has good performance in terms of production of computation time and hardware cost. The proposed architecture is simple, regular, scalable and well suited for VLSI implementation.

The problem of egomotion recovery has been treated by using as input local image motion, with the published algorithms utilizing the geometric constraint relating 2-D local image motion (optical flow, correspondence, derivatives of the image flow) to 3-D motion and structure. Since it has proved very difficult to achieve accurate input (local image motion), a lot of effort has been devoted to the development of robust techniques. A new approach to the problem of egomotion estimation is taken, based on constraints of a global nature. It is proved that local normal flow measurements form global patterns in the image plane. The position of these patterns is related to the three dimensional motion parameters. By locating some of these patterns, which depend only on subsets of the motion parameters, through a simple search technique, the 3-D motion parameters can be found. The proposed algorithmic procedure is very robust, since it is not affected by small perturbations in the normal flow measurements. As a matter of fact, since only the sign of the normal flow measurement is employed, the direction of translation and the axis of rotation can be estimated with up to 100% error in the image measurements. © 1993 IEEE.

Nowadays, with the high-speed iteration of convolution neural network, the efficient object detector emerges one after another. As an important branch of computer vision, object detection aims to detect where and what the object is. However, nowadays, many detector cannot extract abundant semantic information to discriminate the location and size of the objects, resulting in poor performance of the network. In this paper, a new module is proposed, named Abundant Semantic Information Module (ASIM), to enrich and expand the semantic information of the object with more and larger receptive fields. In ASIM, we blend the extracted feature maps to different degrees with different blending factors and fuse them so that all object information is given full attention. Compared to the baseline method, a wealth of experiments show that our module has achieved a significant performance improvement. © 2022 IEEE.

The issue of recognizing 3D elongated objects from 2D intensity images is addressed. A tube model, locally similar to generalized cones, is developed for the class of elongated objects. A recognition strategy that combines 2D contour properties and surface shading information is used to exploit the power of the 3D model. Reliable contours provide constraints for localizing the objects of interest. The theory of optimal filters is adopted in verifying the shading of hypothesized objects. Object recognition is achieved through optimizing the signal-to-noise response with respect to model parameters. A sweeping operation is proposed as a further stage of identifying objects so that the overall performance of the system does not heavily rely on the quality of local feature detection.< >

Target detection and location in infrared clutter background is very important to infrared search and track system. Especially for small target detection in infrared image in background of sea and sky, there are no geometric and structure character to use. When targets such as ship and naval vessel sailing at long distance, they always appear around the sea-level line, and it is mixed with cloud and sea-wave clutter. It is difficult to segment and locate precisely. Background suppression based-on wavelet transformation is proposed in the paper. Wavelet decomposition makes it possible to analyze a signal both in time and frequency domains. In the paper infrared sea and key background images are processed. For their SNR is low and background is complex, using wavelet transformation decomposes an original image and extract approximate feature to reconstruct an image, which mainly includes background information. A new image will be obtained using background image subtracted from original image. There are mainly target and noise points left in the new image. By setting proper threshold, the target can be detected perfectly. At last, experiment results are given and show the method is practical. © 2005 IEEE.

The authors outline their approach for automatic translation of geometric entities produced by a CAD system into a relational graph structure. They have developed a system which uses 3-D object descriptions created on a commercial CAD system and expressed in the industry-standard IGES form, and performs geometric inferencing to object a relational graph representation of the object which can be stored in a database of models of object recognition. Details of the IGES standard, the geometric inference engine, and some formal properties of 3-D models are discussed. In addition to the process of translation from one data format to another, the interference engine extracts higher-level information from the CAD model and stores it explicitly in the new data structure. The higher-level features will allow the search space explored during the object recognition stage to be pruned early.< >
