Motion estimation and spatial-temporal filter-based infrared small target detection algorithm

Under the effect of solar variation, atmospheric attenuation and thermal radiation distribution, the grey value of interference source is close to or equal to the target grey value. With the distance between the imaging system and the target being very long, the target is dotted or mottled in the image. In addition, the target motion is usually unknown and abrupt. All these factors cause the negative effect of small target detection. In this paper, we present a motion estimation and spatial-temporal filter-based algorithm to detect infrared small targets under complex background. The algorithm is divided into three steps: (1) researching the image transformation technology from greyscale pattern to entropy pattern;(2) studying the anisotropic smoothing and local constraint criterion of entropy flow;and (3) introducing spatial-temporal filter for detecting small targets through energy accumulation and trial search of targets. Compared to other methods, experimental results indicate that the proposed method can robustly detect small targets under complicated background. Copyright © 2015 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

In view of the multi-view face detection problem under complex background, an improved face detection method based on multi-features boosting collaborative learning algorithm integrating local binary pattern (LBP) is presented. Firstly, facial skin color information is used to exclude most of the background regions. Then, Haar-like feature and LBP feature are extracted from facial candidate regions and inputted into a modified AdaBoost algorithm to obtain a strong classifier. Lastly, in order to improve the detection speed, pyramid classifier system structure is adopted to determine the face. The experimental results on CMU standard test set and life photos, the proposed method has achieved the rapid detection of multi-view face image. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The existing safety and health monitoring methods for bridge construction are mainly manual monitoring and wired monitoring with many disadvantages, such as low efficiency, poor accuracy, great implementation difficulty, short bridge age, etc. To solve such problems, the paper provides a design scheme for the bridge construction safety and health monitoring System based on wireless sensor networks. In the system, various sensors are mainly used to collect data about the wind, temperature, traffic load, humidity, static position, static displacement and external load response, and then send to the host by route and gateway nodes. After data analysis and processing, the safety of the bridge is evaluated to help the personnel make correct bridge safety precautions. With such advantages as low power demand, wireless transmission of monitoring data, etc., the system is suitable for large range of promotion. © 2014 SERSC.

This paper conducts a survey of modern binary pattern flavored feature extractors applied to the Facial Expression recognition (FER) problem. In total, 26 different feature extractors are included, of which six are selected for in depth description. In addition, the paper unifies important FER terminology, describes open challenges, and provides recommendations to scientific evaluation of FER systems. Lastly, it studies the facial expression recognition accuracy and blur invariance of the Local Frequency Descriptor. The paper seeks to bring together disjointed studies, and the main contribution is to provide a solid overview for future research.

Rational dither modulation (RDM) watermarking was presented to resist amplitude scaling attack. This property is achieved by quantizing the ratio of consecutive samples instead of samples themselves. In this paper, we improve the performance of basic RDM watermarking to resist more types of watermarking attacks. We improve the robustness of our modified RDM watermarking by the following three aspects: 1) The quantization step size is increased by modifying two coefficients instead of only one coefficient in the basic RDM method, 2) Several modification rules are defined to reduce embedding distortion, and 3) The coefficients with larger magnitudes in the lowest sub-band in DWT domain are selected to embed watermark. A variety of attacks are implemented to evaluate the performance of our method. Experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms the basic RDM method and two state-of-the-art watermarking methods over a wide range of attacks and it also has good imperceptibility. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Point matching is an important component of image *** years,Coherent Point Drift(CPD) method becomes a very popular point matching *** treats point matching as a probability estimation problem and speeds up the process of matching a *** this method,one set of points are thought to be sampled from a Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM),which is centered by the other set of ***,CPD is sensitive to outliers and noises,especially when the noise ratio increased or the number of outliers gets much *** deal with this problem,we introduce shape context into the step of searching for matching points and then improve the form of prior probabilities of GMM in this *** main idea of our method is that if the most points in a data set are likely to be matched to a particular centroid,this Gaussian component should be have a more influence to ***,we set prior probability of GMM with the similarity between GMM components and the data *** the computation of similarity is based on shape *** experiments on 2D and 3D images show that when noise ratio is low,our method performs as well as CPD does,but as the ratio increased,our method is more robust and satisfactory than CPD.

This paper reports the results of the SHREC'15 track: 3D Object Retrieval with Multimodal Views, which goal is to evaluate the performance of retrieval algorithms when multimodal views are employed for 3D object representation. In this task, a collection of 505 objects is generated and both the color images and the depth images are provided for each object. 311 objects are selected as the queries and average retrieval performance is measured. The track attracted six participants and the submission of 26 runs, to two tasks. The evaluation results show a promising scenario about multimodal view-based 3D retrieval methods, and reveal interesting insights in dealing with multimodal data. © The Eurographics Association 2015.

Quantum coding plays an important role in quantum genetic algorithm and affects the optimizing efficiency of algorithm, However, there are some defects in existing quantum genetic algorithm: the quantum coding scheme reduces the stability of the algorithm, making the algorithm easily occurs premature convergence and falls into local extremums. Therefore, coding scheme of multi gene chain is extended in a four dimensional space and multidimensional space based on an improved algorithm. Through simulation experiments of function extremum, combine double and triplestranded coding scheme, in accordance with the characteristics of qubits and the normalization condition. Through the experiment, study the effect of multiple genes encoding scheme chain on the performance of the algorithm. The results show that the optimal results of the algorithm can be better and the precision of solution can be higher by increasing the genetic chain. It is an effective strategy to improve the performance of algorithm. © 2014. The authors - Published by Atlantis Press.

Gait period detection, serving as a preprocessor for gait recognition, is commonly studied in the recent past. In this paper, we proposed a novel gait period detection method for depth gait video stream. The method introduces the concept of layered coding for depth images which decreases computational complexity. Furthermore, the extreme value of the sum of layered codes for gait sequence is utilized to judge the period endpoint, which is in accord with the naked-eye observation. In addition, gait recognition experiments on the TUM GAID database are conducted with the description of gait features of one single detected period by the proposed scheme using tensor representation. The high recognition accuracy verifies the effectiveness of the proposed depth gait period detection method. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
