The red color segmentation is widely used in image processing especially for traffic sign detection. The color segmentation under variety of light and weather conditions is a challenging task. These conditions make modifications on traffic sign colors. In this paper, we aim to improve the precision of a state-of-the-art method in RGB and HSV spaces. Although the efficiency of this state-of-the-art method, the red segmentation in RGB space has some false positive detections especially at night, and the red segmentation in HSV space detects the black pixels with red pixels as a region of interest. In order to improve the precision of this method, we propose in this paper to combine the two segmentations. We also propose changing the threshold of the red segmentation in HSV to remove non-red pixels and to extract red pixels with low saturation. In addition, we make some modifications on the threshold of the red segmentation in RGB space to improve its performance. The results obtained in experiments show that our method detects more accurately red color of traffic signs under variety of light and weather conditions compared to the state-of-the-art method.

Gait planning of quadruped robots plays an important role in achieving less walking, including dynamic and static gait. In this article, a static and dynamic gait control method based on center of gravity stability margin is proposed. Firstly, the robot model and kinematics modeling are introduced. Secondly, the robot's foot static and dynamic gait were planned and the foot trajectory was designed. Finally, two types of gait of the robot were simulated using Vrep simulation software, and the differences in stability and speed between the coordinated gait with speed and stability in the static and dynamic gait of a 12 degree of freedom robot were analyzed, verifying the effectiveness of the gait control method proposed in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

Learning reference-based representation for image categorization

This paper develops a reference-based representation method for image categorization and shows that this representation has favorable performance characteristics for multi-class problems. We learn a reconstructive dictionary by associating the reference-set with training data to form a unified objective function. The optimal solution is efficiently obtained using the K-SVD algorithm. After dictionaries are generated, Locality-constrained Linear Coding (LLC) features are extracted. Then, the image feature vector is reconstructed to a histogram-like descriptor by all the image features in the reference-set with a regularization term, leading to a significant reduction of the dimensionality in the feature space. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves or outperforms results on several benchmarks. © 2012 by Binary Information Press.

This paper presents the first module of our system ACE for the automated interpretation of association football games. This module is in charge of the temporal segmentation of the input broadcasting TV video into scenes. The temporal segmentation is based on a new devised dissimilarity measure using the Bhattacharyya distance of the hue and local spatial variance histograms, to incorporate chromatic and structural properties of the images. Great results of extended experiments conducted on the last FIFA's World Cup are presented.

In this paper, we propose a novel classification algorithm, called geometrical probability covering (GPC) algorithm, to improve classification ability. On the basis of geometrical properties of data, the proposed algorithm first forms extended prototypes through computing means of any two prototypes in the same class. Then Gaussian kernel is employed for covering the geometrical structure of data and used as a local probability measurement. By computing the sum of the probabilities that a new sample to be classified to the set of prototypes and extended prototypes, the classified criterion based on the global probability measurement is achieved. The proposed GPC algorithm is simple but powerful, especially, when training samples are sparse and small size. Experiments on several databases show that the proposed algorithm is promising. Also, we explore other potential applications such as outlier removal with the proposed GPC algorithm. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

In the machine translation (MT) system, how to evaluate the sentence fluency of the translation results is an important research topic. Most of the current methods are based on the similarity of output words compared with the reference translations, which don't specially address the evaluation of the sentence fluency according to the syntactic structure. This paper proposes a statistical approach to the problem, which is based on the n-gram language model and reference-independent. Our approach is a beneficial compensation to the reference-dependent methods and has better robustness than those methods based on the syntactic analysis. The preliminary experimental results indicate that the approach basically reflects the reality of human's judgment.

Visual codebook based quantization of robust appearance descriptors extracted from local image patches is an effective means of capturing image statistics for texture analysis and natural scene classification. In this paper, based on the newly proposed statistics of word activation forces (WAFs), we optimize the codebook. Currently, codebooks are typically created from a set of training images using a clustering algorithm. However, these codebooks are often functionally limited due to redundancy. We show that WAFs can remove the redundancy efficiently. In the experiment, the proposed method achieved the state-of-the-art performance on the Caltech- 101, fifteen natural scene categories and VOC2007 databases. The optimization method also offers insights into the success of several recently proposed images classification approaches, including vector quantization (VQ) coding in the Spatial Pyramid Matching (SPM), sparse coding SPM (ScSPM), and Locality-constrained Linear Coding (LLC).

There are problems needed to be solved when extracting centerline of structured light strip on multi-pass seam. The problems include complex shape, non-uniform intensity distribution, disconnected caused by welding beans or occlusion and environmental noise etc. To solve these problems, a novel centerline extraction algorithm is proposed based on anisotropic heat diffusion. Putting pixels gray values as the temperature, the algorithm could get centerline composed by highest energy pixels, through heat diffusion along same temperature curve normal directions. The higher accuracy and efficiency of our algorithm is proved by experiments. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Tight sandstone reservoir is very important in oil and gas exploration in China. Tight reservoirs classification and evaluation are a frontier research field. There are many indexes involved in reservoirs classification, and it is necessary to judge the reservoir type according to personal experience, which consumes lots of time and manpower. Therefore, a new classification method of tight reservoirs using random forest is proposed. Firstly, the high pressure mercury injection curves of tight sandstone reservoirs of He 8 member of Lower Shihezi Formation in eastern Yan'an Gas Field are selected as the research data. Four characteristics for classification are obtained by principal component analysis. Secondly, the random forest using CART is used to classify and obtain the results of reservoir classification. Finally, classification results are verified and parameters of the random forest are optimized. Experimental results show that the proposed reservoirs classification method has high accuracy and low calculation cost. It can effectively reduce time loss and save manpower, and has good generalization. © 2021 IEEE.

Cross-modal hashing has drawn increasing attentions for efficient retrieval across different modalities, and existing methods primarily learn the hash functions in a batch based mode, i.e., offline methods. Nevertheless, the multimedia data often comes in a streaming fashion, which makes the batch based learning methods uncompetitive for large-scale streaming data due to the large memory consumption and calculation. To address this problem, we present an Online Discriminative Semantic-Preserving Hashing (ODSPH) method for large-scale cross-modal retrieval, featuring on fast training speed, low memory consumption and high retrieval accuracy. Within the proposed ODSPH framework, we utilize the newly coming data points to learn the hash codes and update hash functions in a stream manner. When new data comes, the corresponding hash codes are obtained by regressing the class label of the training examples. For hash function, we update it with the accumulated information from each round. Besides, we design a novel momentum updating method to adaptively update the hash function and reduce quantization loss, which can produce discriminative hash codes for high retrieval precision. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets show that the proposed ODSPH method improves the retrieval performance over the state-of-the-arts. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
