Appropriate maintenance of tracks is vital for the safe operation of railways. Properly managing track facilities is necessary to prevent buckling of rails. Changes in society are creating a shortage of workers, a decrease in skilled engineers, a decrease in passenger income, and an increase in the need to develop low-cost inspection methods which do not require experience. Therefore, we have developed a method using only inexpensive camcorders, which can extract information from images to detect joint gaps, wooden sleeper deterioration and ballast shape, and estimate the kilometer point of these images to locate the installations in question. The detection of environmental microorganisms is always a difficult task, e specially when the multi-scale environment is complex. For tiny objects in microscopic images, current detection methods face the challenge of accurate identification and localization. In contrast, we propose a convolutional neural network (ECA-RetinaNet) for microscopic object detection of which underlying dataset is a high-quality EMDS-7 dataset. The accuracy of ECA-RetinaNet is high, with a high mean Average Precision (mAP) value of 81.42% in the Environmental Microorganisms (EMS) detection task. Its accuracy has been higher than that of the two-stage object detection network. © 2023 IEEE.

Niobium telluride(NbTe_(2)),an emerging transition metal dichalcogenide material,has been theoretically predicted to have nonlinear absorption properties and excellent optical ***,only a few studies of the utilization of NbTe_(2)in ultrafast photonics have been *** this work,a NbTe_(2)-based saturable absorber(SA)was applied in an erbium-doped fiber as a mode-locked device,and a vector soliton based on NbTe_(2)was obtained for the first ***_(2)-PVA film SA was successfully prepared by the liquid-phase exfoliation and spin coating methods,with a modulation depth of up to 10.87%.The nonlinear absorption coefficient of NbTe_(2)-based SA film tested through the open-aperture Z-scan laser measurement is 0.62×10^(−11) m/W.A conventional soliton with a pulse duration of 858 fs was generated using NbTe_(2)-based SA,which was demonstrated to be a kind of polarization-locked vector soliton in further *** experimental results reveal the nonlinear optical properties of NbTe_(2)and broaden its applications in ultrafast photonic devices.

Decentralized Kernel Ridge Regression Based on Data-Dependent Random Feature

Random feature (RF) has been widely used for node consistency in decentralized kernel ridge regression (KRR). Currently, the consistency is guaranteed by imposing constraints on coefficients of features, necessitating that the random features on different nodes are identical. However, in many applications, data on different nodes varies significantly on the number or distribution, which calls for adaptive and data-dependent methods that generate different RFs. To tackle the essential difficulty, we propose a new decentralized KRR algorithm that pursues consensus on decision functions, which allows great flexibility and well adapts data on nodes. The convergence is rigorously given and the effectiveness is numerically verified: by capturing the characteristics of the data on each node, while maintaining the same communication costs as other methods, we achieved an average regression accuracy improvement of 25.5% across six real-world data sets. The application of unmanned vehicles in industrial cargo transportation is becoming increasingly widespread, particularly playing a significant role in transporting heavy-duty goods. However, when performing such tasks, whether in single-vehicle transportation or multi-vehicle collaborative transportation, the occurrence of wheel failures can potentially lead to serious safety accidents. Therefore, this paper proposes a fault-tolerant control scheme, establishing a kinematic model considering disturbances and failures, and adopts model predictive control for trajectory tracking. Additionally, an extended state observer is introduced to observe system states and counteract disturbances. To address potential failure issues, a controller reconstruction strategy is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the controller is validated through numerical simulation and comparative experiment. © 2024 IEEE.

Ridgeless regression has garnered attention among researchers, particularly in light of the "Benign Overfitting" phenomenon, where models interpolating noisy samples demonstrate robust generalization. However, kernel ridgeless regression does not always perform well due to the lack of flexibility. This paper enhances kernel ridgeless regression with Locally-Adaptive-Bandwidths (LAB) RBF kernels, incorporating kernel learning techniques to improve performance in both experiments and theory. For the first time, we demonstrate that functions learned from LAB RBF kernels belong to an integral space of Reproducible Kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHSs). Despite the absence of explicit regularization in the proposed model, its optimization is equivalent to solving an 0-regularized problem in the integral space of RKHSs, elucidating the origin of its generalization ability. A single band printed antenna with a modified E-shaped structure is proposed for 5G applications at 28 GHz band. The suggested antenna has been constructed on a 5.5 × 4.35 mm2 FR-4 substrate (Εr= 4.4 and h= 1.6 mm ) through slot loading technique. The incorporation of rectangular and tiny square shaped slots has improved the resonance and radiation characteristics of the designed antenna. The wide operating bandwidth of the suggested antenna covers 25.99–29.88 GHz frequency spectrum to support 28 GHz 5G applications. The presented antenna depicts low mismatch loss and thus better impedance matching offering a reflection coefficient of about −40.88 dB at 28 GHz. The proposed antenna offers desired radiation patterns (E and H planes) with a peak gain of about 5.64 dBi at 28 GHz. Furthermore, an extensive analysis of VSWR, input impedance, and surface current distribution are also presented to explain the working functionality of the suggested antenna. The proposed structure is a preferable choice for 28 GHz 5G applications due to its compact size and high performance parameters and it covers the bandwidth requirements of 5G applications at 28 GHz. © 2022, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Data-free knowledge distillation aims to learn a compact student network from a pre-trained large teacher network without using the original training data of the teacher network. Existing collection-based and generation-based methods train student networks by collecting massive real examples and generating synthetic examples, respectively. However, they inevitably become weak in practical scenarios due to the difficulties in gathering or emulating sufficient real-world data. To solve this problem, we propose a novel method called Hybrid Data-Free Distillation (HiDFD), which leverages only a small amount of collected data as well as generates sufficient examples for training student networks. Our HiDFD comprises two primary modules, i.e., the teacher-guided generation and student distillation. The teacher-guided generation module guides a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) by the teacher network to produce high-quality synthetic examples from very few real-world collected examples. Specifically, we design a feature integration mechanism to prevent the GAN from overfitting and facilitate the reliable representation learning from the teacher network. Meanwhile, we drive a category frequency smoothing technique via the teacher network to balance the generative training of each category. In the student distillation module, we explore a data inflation strategy to properly utilize a blend of real and synthetic data to train the student network via a classifier-sharing-based feature alignment technique. Intensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our HiDFD can achieve state-of-the-art performance using 120 times less collected data than existing methods.
